  1. 55 used to be a very common speed limit back in the day
  2. Hi gents, I'm currently looking for a transfer case for my '92 MJ. I have a couple junkyards around with XJ's from 87-99. What year T/C would work better? as far as speedo compatibility? Thank you
  3. looking more closely, that looks like JK rubicon tires so those wheels must be 17s
  4. That cherokee looks great, what size tires are those 235/85-16?
  5. The engine was mostly clean, I use purple power to degrease. The tranny definitely was greasy from a bad rear main in the donor. Purple power works great! Used barbecue paint for the oil pan.
  6. UPDATE The truck is coming slow and steady, so much to do! got the engine bay pressure washed The engine cleaned and painted Tranny cleaned New intake manifold/clean water pump and oil pan
  7. Thanks Rob, Today I cleaned up the engine. Going to pick up some paint tomorrow, the coolant passages look nasty. My buddy is driving the NV3550 up from Florida this weekend and hopefully I can start making some progress on the drivetrain. Looking for a 23 spline long input shaft np231, the local Junkyard just crushed like half the yard so only 2 cherokees left.
  8. 1992 Jeep Comanche Image Not Found 4.0 HO/ Ax-15/ 2wd/ dana 35 3.07 gears, SWB build date: 4-92 Location: Eastern NC Status: Project Croc Hunter MJ Notes: bare bones standard MJ, No A/C, manual everything Current Owner: Sebastian Pagliaricci (me)
  9. That's awesome! I would've never known, Thanks Rob!
  10. Thank you, reason why i'm not trying to go too high is I'd like a stable ride, my TJ is lifted 6" and a lot had to be done in order to make it stable. Say I bought some metric tonne springs from hellcreek, put them over the axle with XJ shackles, should be about 4.5" lift right?
  11. Thanks gents, I'm 99% certain the bed is coming off, its a decent bed, has 2 main rust spots, one near the gas filler and the other on the passenger side fender flare. The VIN is 1J7FT26S2NL225254, I knew that it was the last year built but not that it was one of the last built. The PO wasn't very nice to it, the engine had 2 quarts of oil in it and no air filter. leaked oil everywhere, completely neglected but still ran like a top. Jeep had 186k miles so I pulled a nice leak free 70k mile '96 XJ motor from the local Junkyard.
  12. thanks, build date is 4-92
  13. what would be the best way to get less lift with a spring over, say 4"? I hear XJ's have shorter shackles, that would bring down a bit
  14. Hi, I'm installing a Ford 8.8 in the Comanche, Looking to fit 33x10.5 A/Ts. Sort of undecided on lift height, I'd like to do a spring over for the added ground clearance however I don't want it to be unnecessarily tall, what would be the best rear suspension setup to fit 33x10.50s? If I was to go with a spring over what would be the angle the spring perches need to be welded at in relation to the pinion? the truck is a shortbed. I don't have a drivetrain in it so there is no way for me to check, thanks Gents Jeep on!
  15. What is the spring set up you have on the back currently? SOA with stock springs? or SOA with AAL? I'm trying to decide on spring under or over, I'd rather have it over but don't want the truck to be too tall, I also got the 8.8
  16. Hello, my friend convinced to start a thread on my MJ. I've been working on it for a few weeks now, collecting parts. My goal is to build a Jeep Comanche similar to Steve Irwin's Toyota Ute. He was my childhood hero, and an exemplar human being, I am doing this in memory of him. It is gonna be slow, but gotta start somewhere. The truck: '92 MJ 4.0, 2wd, manual ax-15 The plan is: White or Tan paint '96 4.0 engine from an XJ with 70k miles NV3550(from '04 TJ with 90k) Ford 8.8 Dana 30 HP 4.10:1 gears 3 or 4" lift 31's or 33x10.50s(undecided) ARB snorkel Ute bed Metric Tonne springs Day of purchase Initial teardown '96 4.0 Final goal Thanks for looking gents
  17. The comanche is a '92, I'll check the build date when I go home. thanks so far though
  18. looks like the pilot bearing diameter for the nv3550 is .750"
  19. Hello I just got my hands on a 03 nv3550, I just need ot figure out exactly which pilot bushing I would need to fit the '92 HO motor? Thanks
  20. Hello I recently bought a '92 4.0 2wd comanche and I plan on converting it to 4x4, I've read that the TJ nv3550 should bolt in, the thing i'm worried about is the clocking for the transfer case, would the TJ tranny clock the T-case too high where it would contact the body? any other advice greatly appreciated... thanks a lot
  21. Alright, I'm beginning to see the compatibility of the motors clearer, This MJ has no axles though I'll get some pics soon, not even 3.07's. I'm gonna try to find a HP d30 with 4.10:1 gears from a 4 cyl XJ and a 8.8 with matching gears. Thanks for the help so far, I'll have more questions as I build it I'm in eastern NC
  22. It has a cracked block sitting in there still mated to the trans, cylinder head gone, I called it no motor bc haha well yeah... the ax-15 thats in there must need a rebuild, the guy i bought it from said he bought it for the tires it had on it, he drove it around the farm, he said for sure 1st and 2nd worked. It would really suck to mate a motor to it and the trans be crap... I'm gonna try my best to build this thing right the first time, 4.0/aw4 combo is out of the question then?(extensive needsless work) options if I'm correct '91-'95 4.0 motor mated to an ax-15 or nv3550 how different are the '96-'99 motors?
  23. The MJ should already have the right flywheel clutch stuff in it right? After researching for hours I'm beginning to think the best bet would be to find a used ax-15 with the external slave cylinder and mate that to a '91 4.0, or a 92-95 motor splicing the cps? thanks for your help
  24. I'm right there with you, I got this one for 300 bones, most of the things that are missing are readily available at junkyards except for the bed, might go with a flatbed. but I really like the way those canvas tops look on comanches so maybe I'll have to find a bed. I'm trying to address the drivetrain first bc being in the service I can't really have a frame with a cab in the barracks parking lot  :redX:
  25. thanks for the quick replies. I've always wanted a comanche, and building this one is gonna be a challenge. I don't have a transmission preference, aw4 or ax-15 are both great. Whichever is easier, the comanche still has the ax-15/np242 with 240xxx miles. I have only been able to find automatic XJ's. If installing the whole xj motor and aw4 together is easier then I'd do that. If an auto XJ motor will work with the ax-15 I could do that too. Lots of possibilities really, looking for guidance it has all the wiring, everything is there the cylinder head is gone, the block is cracked
