Project Croc Hunter '92 MJ

Thanks gents, I really like the BFG's the rims are a bit too narrow even with the 10.50s, so I have my eye out for a different option. The clayton stuff is great, I'm coming from driving a TJ with a 6" lift on short arms so the MJ feels like a sports car. the D30 is already in I'll post some pics as soon as I can. I still have a few things to work out; -longer brakelines -bumpstop extensions(my MJ's bumpstop cups were smaller than my TJ's and they are welded on) -

sorry for taking so long to update but I'm back from Arizona and have had some time to work on the jeep. so far.. -I got the BFG 33x10.50s installed. -Installed new bushings on the Dana 30 that I will be installing this weekend. -IPF driving lights -Clayton HD adj. trackbar -put 1.5" wheel spacers in the back and .75" spacers in the front to even out the axle widths The whole squad, the green TJ is mine Got dark out but here's the IPF lights -
Thanks Nate! I opened up the diff to look at the gears and they look good, the teeth are smooth without any pitting. I will be intalling new bearings in it as soon as the kit comes in, summit said 4-10 days. I also ordered a solid collar to replace the crush sleeve. quick question, do the pinion shims go behind the bearing? or do they go between the bearing race and the housing?
-
I should've clarified, its an open differential. I'm gonna order a master install kit with new bearings for it. should i replace the ring and pinion too?
-
I got the diff from an explorer at the junkyard, the backlash seemed ok from feeling the pinion. I haven't tried prying on the carrier yet

Hello gents, I have a certain whine on my 8.8 that I'm trying to diagnose. I've searched and everyone talks about whine during acceleration . The diff has 225k miles, 4.10 ratio. The whine only happens while crusing at a constant speed with just enough throttle to keep the truck at speed. It goes away during acceleration and deceleration. the ring and pinion look good with normal wear, what do you think it could be? worn bearings given the mileage?

D30 One-piece shaft conversion correct seal
gaucho919 replied to gaucho919's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm glad, I posted this so it could be passed on, good luck with your swap :D -
I've been working on my '87 dana 30 HP vaccum diso with 4.10's to match my 8.8. when doing the one piece shaft conversion(shafts from either a TJ/XJ/ZJ) we need to add a seal inside the pumpkin on the passenger side. all my forum searching lead to seal National p/n 471763 or Napa 11800. both seals have an outer diameter of 2.004" for a a housing bore of 2". I busted mine while trying to install it bc my Housing bore is smaller. I used the National seals book at O'reilly and found the right seal If you're doing this on a early Dana 30. My '87 dana 30's housing bore is 1.975" I found: National p/n 471747 Shaft Size=1.125" Housing Bore=1.983 Outer Diameter=1.987 Width=0.25in put it in the freezer for 1/2 hour and it works!!!

Hello Gents, its been a couple weeks since I last posted. Got quite a bit done, currently at a standstill waiting on funds... Buttoned up the front grill Got the claytons on the 2wd front axle bc I just recently acquired my HP D30 with 4.10s Also drilled my crown victoria $5 junkyard rims for the jeep hubcaps and painted them. I think they look great! only things left in order for it to drive comfortably are shocks, sway bar links and a shifter lever Let me know what you think so far! My brother from another mother's Comanche -

Thanks, yeah Steve was the man. I watched his movie yesterday just to get some inspiration. The man just has a way of motivating me. He might have lived a short life but when you take into consideration everything he did during his lifetime, he had an extremely eventful action packed life. -

as promised some progress The T-case/body clearance with the TJ NV3550 Some Aussie accents decided to go for the Clayton long arms, figured I'd just go with a quality product and be done with it, gotta wait for the snorkel bc funds are running low, next are the OME934s and OME shocks, does anyone have a part # for some OME shocks for the rear spring over 6" lift? Thanks gents hope You like it -

Update... -Pulled an np231 off a 2000 XJ from the junkyard on Saturday, not bad for $60. It is no contacting the body with the TJ nv3550, it is just about 1/4" away from it in one spot (might need to fix that with a hammer). -Also pulled a clutch master and slave cylinder with the hydraulic line attached from a 94 XJ, $10 for all of it, not bad -Got my ARB bullbar yesterday -Ordered my Clayton long arms about 10 minutes ago -Ran out of money haha I'll post some pictures tonight when I get off work -

Thanks! it got dark on me so I couldn't take pictures but the motor RUNS!!! I am still undecided on the front suspension, looking for ~4.5 of lift, thinking about OME934 coils and 1.75" spacers, and either clayton long arms or RC control arm drop brackets. price is a big thing bc I have so many parts to buy still, shocks are pretty expensive too. what are y'alls experiences with drop brackets? -
Hi gents, looking to lift the front of my MJ 4-5" with old man emu coils/coil spacers. Some places I read TJ coils are shorter than XJ coils, other places sell ome 4" coils for xt/zj/tj with the same part number. What ome coils would you recommend?

hello gents I've made enough progress to deserve an update -primed/painted the engine bay -Got the engine/tranny hooked up and in the truck(still need a t-case from the junkyard) -got the 8.8 mocked up in the rear -Still undecided on whether I should get a slip yoke eliminator or not(so I can't weld the spring perches on yet) I think the spring over looks pretty good, both my main leafs are sagging, rest of the leafs looks ok. Might order some metric tonne springs from hellcreek along with some XJ shackles to bring it down a bit. for the front I'm thinking old man emu 4" springs with some 3/4" spring spacers -

I should've been more descriptive, my '92 was factory 2wd. I'm doing a ground up rebuild on it, using a '97 motor, '01 intake, and 04 nv3550. I got everything except for the tcase right now. -
