California Comanche
crumbscomanche replied to crumbscomanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
@krustyballer16 that's what I started thinking about last night actually- in the long run it is probably better for the suspension to have the rake. I was surprised by how much lift the drop shackles gave it. -

Alright so we got the shackles and RE budget boost pucks in, and ended up getting a decent bit of lift. I think once I get some longer sway bar links the rake will even out a bit, but I'm happy with the results: I also notice the old battery tray was cracked when I replaced the battery to the yellow top, and replaced it with the JCR set up. They have great customer service, cannot recommend them enough. -
I picked up a '91 with 513k miles (has a rebuilt engine) for the same price and it runs like a champ. Go for it

@krustyballer16 sent me a preview of the LWB sliders he fab'd for the Comanche. He has been great the whole way through, and has had near-instant responses for any questions and requests. Can't wait to get these on, thanks again Krusty! -
Diagnosing a problem or two

update - alternator was bad. I was traveling this week so I dropped it off at the shop for a replacement, so hopefully I'll be back in the dirt shortly. -

This looks really good! I like the set up a lot more than standard buckets out of an XJ. -
Diagnosing a problem or two
crumbscomanche replied to crumbscomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
@gogmorgo thanks for the link. I will check codes and report back tomorrow. It is a 91. I should be able to get a voltmeter for a test too. @hakukamana I will make sure I do this regardless, thank you for the tip. @Green Mesa XJ Seems like the consensus is some faulty connection! Thank you for the feedback. -
Diagnosing a problem or two

@Noriyori_Kudo thank you for the info. I thought about that too, since I ran it pretty rough on Saturday and I'm sure something on a 513k mile truck could've been knocked loose. What would indicate the the C101 box and would the under dash ground be located near the fuse box to the left of the pedals? Thanks again. -
Also were the UCA/LCA from the WJ bolt on? And were the sway bars out of an UpCountry XJ? Looks like all of it would make it a much nicer ride.

Truck looks like it's in really great shape. How can the wife hate the rattle camo Do you know what the original owner did for the lift in the back? Looks like you've got plenty of room for those 31s.

Good afternoon Comanche Club, I am trying to diagnose a couple of problems, which I'm hoping are symptoms of the same thing. The first problems began late last week - the voltage meter took a dip down to the red on a fairly new battery (a Duralast battery from the PO dated 4/17) after staying pretty much dead center since I purchased the truck in June of this year. It made sense because we had left the radio on for a few hours while working on the suspension. Fast forward to a pretty rough trail ride Saturday. I had a couple of problems out in the desert, and noticed for a little while the tachometer stopped working, and the voltage meter dipped down even farther. I thought the latter was odd, because I would've figured the battery would've been recharged after driving for several hours. As we were pulling out of the Rec Area, the check engine light turned on. The tachometer came back to life after about 20 minutes on the highway, but the voltage stayed low and the check engine light stayed on. After rinsing down the truck at the car wash for 10 minutes, the battery died, and could not be jumped. I decided to pick up a yellow top Optima, since it was on my list of upgrades this year, and hoped this would fix everything, but alas it did not. The truck is having no problems starting up, but the check engine light remains on and the voltage counter very low despite the brand new `battery. Right now I'm thinking it's the alternator or a fuse for the voltage sending unit, but the alternator was replaced in the last 12 months by the PO. If anyone had any thoughts or suggestions on where to dive in, it would be a huge help. Thank you in advance! Voltage Counter as it sits with the yellow top:

Cherokee Bumper

@coolwind57 got it, thank you. Hopefully they still have it! -
Happy Friday everyone, Anyone know if this sort of bumper would run on an MJ? $50 seems like a pretty damn good deal. Thanks! https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/pts/d/jeep-cherokee-front-bumper/6346118780.html

This took a little longer than anticipated, but we successfully replaced the vacuum on the CAD with a Posi-Lok system. We'll need to play with the wires more to get the 4x4 light to turn on but it works! And now I have a big red button to press. -

New suspension and brakes are in. Ordered a RE budget boost plus drop shackles and MOOG springs for a GC V8. Rotors are EBC with Hawk LTS pads. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the old bump stops out or the spacers in above the coil in my driveway, but I'll have the shop add those in with an AAL if I need any more boost when I take it to get regeared! Picked up a gas tank and t-case skid (thanks John J!) and got them installed today. We used well nuts for connection to the frame and crossmember. Time will tell how they stand up. -

We've been hard at work bringing this axle back to life, and it's finally starting to come together. Still to come are new disc brakes and a diff cover. Here's how it looked when we picked it up, after sanding, and now: -
Thanks for the info. Looks like they are just rebadged mongoose bikes haha!

Scrolling through Craigslist today, and this caught my eye- too bad it's a kid bike! https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/bik/d/jeep-comanche-kid-bike-in/6309733567.html Did Jeep include bikes with certain Comanches? Anybody have the details?

D44 Disc Brake Conversion Questions
crumbscomanche replied to crumbscomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank you for this- anticipated on having to pick up new rotors and pads along with hardware. I offered $180 and he took it- if it looks bad, though, I will send back and order it piece by piece. Would it be okay if I shot you a couple of messages when we get it going? That is an awesome, awesome diff cover. Do you happen to have a link? I saw a similar one on Amazon but it doesn't look nearly that nice (or official!).
