Thanks for the replies,Now to the tech side of the question,Whats years on the automatic or does the transmission matter,I know I will need a TCU and trans harness , I would assume it needs to be out of a renix era vehicle?Ive seen several 1997 cherokees around cheap,If not one of them I have a couple of junk yards around with a ton of cherokees.

I'm tring to decide which way I want to go.I have a almost dead BA10 and need to make a decision soon.. lets hear the pros and cons on each AW4 and AX15 the truck will be used on and off road. Also I have a 1988 MJ so what year's AW4 do I need to be looking for or is there a difference? Also the truck I have was a automatic in an earlier life so is the wiring that I need already there?

Sorry I thought the post was about the BA10 line.....
-
Oreilly auto parts has a brand new line for the comanche /cherokee.They looked it up and it was replaced by another number so don't let them tell you they don't have it Part Number is BH411830 The original part number was $18.99 the new part number part is 49.99,they sold it to me for the original part number price of 18.99!!! Good luck

Can an AX5 be swapped in place of a BA10? Advantages ,disadvantages? Just found one at a good price. Is the transfer case behind my BA10 compatible?

IF I hadnt loaned my fuel pressure gauge to one of my mechanics at the other shop I might have saved my self a days time ,but I did learn alot about the Renix system.
-
It always goes back to something simple...Fuel pressure, rubber line from pump to pick up tube was sitting against the end of the pick up tube, getting fuel up top to rail but wasnt building pressure(9pounds) I had replaced the pump but the hose was a straight piece with the new pump i reused the curved hose..Looked good when I didit but on inspection when i pulled the pump back out the hose was swollen up....new fuel line in tank and I'm in business. I learned alot about the Renix system and I'm kinda glad I did,not as leary about keeping it in the truck now.Was considering swapping it out in the future.
-
The hose on the fuel pump came loose and was sitting against the pick up tube, only making 9 pounds of fuel pressure.......I reconnected it and 31 pounds!!. Suggestion throw away the little short hose that comes with a new pump buy some new hose and make it longer and double clamp it. I heard all the renix horror stories and went to the extreme with diagnosis and over looked the simple stuff. As Ive always preached check the basics first.fuel spark and timing. While I was over thinking I learned alot about renix and its actually a simple system if you can read a meter.

New guy wants a Comanche
bkdrocks replied to nitroxsteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Theres about 4 or 5 for sale on Craigslist in Atlanta ,I bought mine for $650 with a bad fuel pump,$92 dollars later it was on the road..I now have about 1400 or 1500 dollars total in my truck and Its heading on its test run in the dirt in a few weeks. Its different owning a Comanche, not many on the road so it gets some looks.Get you one!!!! -
Well mines horizontal,I will get pictures later of the filter adapter.the s3985 fits and the 1626 won't... I don't know if the engine has been replaced I do know it was an automatic truck in its earlier days. So when I get to work I will try to get a picture of the filter base and find the number on the block to se what year the engine is.

Before and after interior pictures. Now I have to tear it all apart to put a heater core in...Didnt notice it leaking until Monday....just my luck.
-
Checked Vac leaks, removed the IAC and cleaned ,idles at the same rpms after that...Drove it last night and it did fine????
-
Horizontal,I tried 2 different ones from wix thinking that maybe I had gotten filter with bad threads or something. But the STP went right on??? I'm thinking somewhere along the way the filter adapter or atleast the threaded piece has been changed out.I guess my next trip to Pull a parts I'll look for a filter adapter that has a 1626 filter installed....
-
My 88 MJ 4.0 had a STP filter on it when I bought it(part #3985 I think),I bought a Wix and a Napa filter (51626 and a 1626)neither fit,but it was the correct part number.I bought another STP it screw right on??? I didnt know if maybe someone changed the filter base or if its a common problem.I need to post a pic of the filter base . Has anyone else ran into this?
-
Thanks i will tomorrow

My MJ usually idles less than 1000 rpm's ,now after driving it idles around 1200 rpm's.If I cut it off and start it back it goes to 3000 rpm's,shut it back off and sometimes it idles normally.....Any ideas? its a 1988 model......

I have a shift boot, and seal on the floor board that seals the cab floor then it has a seal/cover just laying over the top of the shift tower that fits loosley,It seams like there should be a seal that does a better job than that,I have a leak and Ive traced it to there, not bad just annoying..I guess its what slings off the shaft? I can't find any thing in any of the parts break downs Ive seen online??/
-
Does anyone know if there is a seal around the shift rod where it goes into the transmission?Mine doesnt have one and it looks like there should be one there. If there is one does anyone have the part number or a source to get one. Thanks
