  1. yea, so the money pit will have to be sidelined until spring. lame. alright. well hopefully it'll be ready to go by summer...
  2. So I changed my clutch hose, retorqued the fittings and its all good, but now its leaking significant amounts of brake fluid (what is in the clutch line) from the bell housing after use. My worst fear is that it's leaking from the slave cylinder which either got destroyed by bleeding, or when we were screwing and unscrewing the bleed valve the thin metal tube going to the slave got bent or cracked or something. I have an AX 15 and I've heard changing the slave is doable without dropping the transmission, but I'm unsure as to the specifics, I have a teardown manual but it doesn't exactly discuss specifics. I can see the bleed cylinder and the hose input line going into a slot in the side of the transmission covered by a bit o' rubber. Do I have to dig around in there to change the slave? :|
  3. So I got my old clutch hose out and had to actually cut it out, as it was pinned between the brake line and the firewall. Then I installed the new one which came bent the wrong angles, but close so it just needed some help bending. Now, I've got good pressure in the clutch and everything fits, but its leaking just a tiny bit from the master threads, maybe the slave threads and the bleeder valve (the small outer most screw on the ax15 as the other parts were seized). I've got a few solutions floating around in my head. My options are 1) Unscrew them all, reattach with locktite and rebleed 2) Torque tighter, i'm not sure exactly how tight to torque them, they are on fairly delicate hosing that i didn't want to risk twisting and breaking. 3)apply a topical sealant to the outside of all the attachments, and locktite the bleed valve. I'm a little worried that the seals where the metal hose ends meet the slave and master are just shot like the old hose was, but there is enough pressure that I think a relatively quick fix would be possible. I'm thinking that i need to at the very least reseat the hose ends inside the master and slave to make sure they meet properly with the seals but I'm not entirely sure of to the interior of the female parts of the system.
  4. update! So I finally got under it and it turns out that when the previous owner swapped out the engine they put in an ax15. So I'm going to order the line including the tubes on either end and stick it in. this actually explains why it was the line was put back improperly
  5. thanks guys, all very helpful. I don't really have a good mine of resources to search for things like yet and that site is a gem. And thanks for the tip on the yj/tj.
  6. thanks. I've got a friend who does a lot on jeeps and will work for beer, so I'm gonna get him to give me a hand so I should be able to do it. Thanks for the help, and if this works you should see me around a bit more often. Also, best place to find dirt cheap ax15s? cherokees at the wrecker?
  7. Hey guys, on my 89 MJ 4.0L with the BA-5/10 my main clutch hydraulic line rubbed the exhaust manifold and thus has a hole. I've learnt from my local jeep dealer that while they don't have the part set that I need for a new one, I ought to be able to patch it as they say its fairly low pressure. I've been told to remove it, take it to a hydraulics shop and see if they can patch or replace a section of it. I'm hoping to preserve the original attachments and take off the rubber hose in one piece, which is all I need and avoid having to pay the 200 bucks for the line + master/slave lines. I was curious if anyone knows of any clever tricks for removing the line without damaging the attachments.
