bkdrocks replied to 8449duke's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If anybody is interested I found 2 MJ's at Pull a Parts Atlanta South yard this weekend! Still had a fair amount of parts left. -
It varies,But if I crank it it revs then idles down stumbles and die..Then spins over a little longer than normal then cranks and does the same thing again.if i try to hold the pedal and make it run it loss power and dies too. Ill check everything with an ohm meter tomorrow, found this link in another post it was helpful .. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Eng ... ostics.htm Thanks for the help too!

Ive had the MJ running drove it to the alignment shop Thursday and picked it up Friday everything was fine.Moved it around in the shop today serviced the transmission and T case this morning, running it to warm up before I took it for test drive and it started idling rough died...Cranked it back up and it would rev up but started acting like it was cutting out and with it reved up or idling. It will eventually cut off,but will restart everytime....HELP!!!! If you need more info let me know I'm baffled. Fuel pump is new didnt get a chance to check pressure though. Cap rotor wires aqnd plugs new.

I hear you,I helped my son do his lift on his TJ this weekend in the yard...I couldnt get to the shop.It was 21 here and windy,it was hard ,I froze but I enjoyed turning wrenches with my son!!!!!I wouldnt trade that for anything!!!
-
To bad your staled by winter,I'm lucky I have a full shop at my disposal to do my work in ,so I just have to find the time to work on it.
-
I would try those control arms but the lift has a lower control arm with a brkt that the upper connects to? it seems to work but I havent seen these before? Anyone have any Idea who makes them?
-
I'm kinda getting to the point where I can finally get it on the road,so I can begin getting the bugs worked out. I took alot of photos during the prep and paint but can get them to load off my camera? Hope to get it worked out and will post.I also took a trip to Pull a Parts and got a ZJ swaybar, went right on no problems,Waiting on new adjustable ball joints to come in today so they can get the alignment done.Going to log some miles this weekend!!

New Goodyear Duratrac 33x12.50 15's with Canyons ,should have bought the wheel spacers when Rough Country had them on sale a couple of weeks ago,a little close in the rear and scrub on deep turns in the front.Having the alignment done tomorrow if it doesnt snow..Snow in Atlanta lol right..

Thanks guys,I just got home from an unexpected run to DC(20 hours round trip) to pick up my daughter, she couldnt get a flight back.....She missed Christmas day with family but it was worth it to be able to have her back home. I'm going to run the drop brackets until I can buy the long arms.I hope to have tires and wheels this week ,brkts on and alighment done, its killin me to get it on the road. I have to hurry before UPS gets here with the TJ lift for my sons jeep....

Ive installed a 6" lift on my MJ ,it had a 2 " lift on it when I bought it with drop brackets on the lower control arms,I removed them. The question is would you use them or not.Advantages vs disadvantages???
-
I have to work fast,I have 2 kids with TJ's ... I'm not just building one I'm building 3... My daughter has a 1997 TJ with 6" of lift and 36" IROK's and I'm helping my son with his 2002 his has 3" and 33's ,its killin him that his sisters is bigger....so he has another lift ordered,Its never ends
-
Lift done ,need to install front driveshaft,4x4 linkage and head to the tire and alignment shop!!!!
-
I cleaned them with Purple Power, then bought some vinyl dye....They were bad.
-
Thought I would throw in a pic of the finished door panels.
-
Thanks,Its an 88' ,Not sure where the wheels came from they were on the Jeep when I got it,If I were to bet they used to be white wagon wheels. I was told a SYE wasnt needed on the MJ ,because it has a longer drive shaft ,Ive built TJ's and YJ's and I asked the same question before I began the lift.??So I will have an inch or so added to the shaft length. I hope to have it off jack stands tomorrow. Now I have to decide on tire size????
-
Just ordered one from Quadratec. Thanks Radiator seems to be flowing fine now...But will keep that in mind,I can pull it and have it cleaned when I get a little more into the MJ.
-
rear almost finished!!
-
Front end in and needing an alignment, rear almost complete,I need a few hours tomorrow, finish up the lift, bleed the brakes and very short test drive before it heads to the tire and alignment shop..Driveshaft looks iffy, might have to add some length,I hope to get a side pic tomorrow when its on the ground.
-
As usual all didnt go well....Front is finished ,rear is still on jack stands .As big as Atlanta is no one had a 2.5" perch!!! I have a set coming at 11am tomorrow so I will try it again...
-
Hopefully all goes well today and the lift will be on before sunset....if not its a long walk home from the shop...... I have posted pics in the project section and will update later today. Thanks again.

From there I'm not sure which way I will go,its getting new paint ,refresh the interior and tires and wheels..... Runs good its a 4.0 with a BA 10? 5spd,Dana 30 front ,Dana 35 rear. nothing special .It has 2" springs in the front now and air shocks in the rear. Here are a couple of pics .
