BTW. SBpunk, truck looks great. nice work on the 8.8

Awesome information everyone. Will be going to work as soon as I get the perches in the mail.
-
Do you happen to remember what measurements you used for the perches?
-
Great info. Thanks a bunch. I purchased these perches before I saw your response. I am staying SUA. I read that the axle tube was 3.25 on a 8.8. Think I will be ok? http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ruffstuff&Product_Code=SU-PERCH&Category_Code=JeepXJ

Fantastic, thank you. So looks like I just need to purchase some perches and weld them on.

I am getting ready to do a 8.8 swap. I was going to purchase new perches, however I was wondering if I could still utilize the shock mount plate for my shocks or is there a benefit of using something else? I have seen many kits however they seem to be for XJs and not MJs. I am staying SUA. Thanks

awesome, thanks for the information. This is my next project, had an idea to repurpose the overflow bottle. Just wasn't sure how to go about it. did you install a vent tube? -

How did you wire the electric fan? I know this seems to be an issue. Also, how did you repurpose the old coolant bottle? A lot of folks get a newer one but seem to have issues getting them to fit correctly. -
That what I was guessing. Thanks for the input

I have decided to go with the common Ford 8.8 axle swap on my MJ. I feel pretty comfortable with the swap however, I was looking for some clarification on the proper years I would be looking for. I found a 2004 that is pretty good shape with these specs: 2004-2004 Rear Axle; (4 Dr), exc. Sport Trac; differential mounted ABS sensor, 3.73 ratio, w/limited slip differential,3.73 LOCKER. Only thing I every found stated that I wanted to find an explorer between 1995 and 2001, is this true? Thanks for the help.

I recently replaced my bench with a bench from a 4x4. It took me all together about an hour. -

4x4 swap suggestions and tips

^^ fantastic thank you. I have also purchased the boostwerks shift linkage and many of the parts to do the 3.5 inch lift. I will be going with the 231 and a pre 96 AW4. I did not think about the speedo cable, thanks for that. I got very lucky and got a new bench seat (looked brand new) and transfer case mini console for 200$. How did the column shifter arm differ from 2wd and 4wd? was there heavy mods for that? thanks again -
4x4 swap suggestions and tips

Great, I will definitely look at those things. -
In a week I will be taking off a few days of work to start a 4x4 swamp on my 90 LWB. I am installing a 3.5 inch RE lift in the front and hell creek leaf springs in the rear. Will be running 32 inch tires. This is my first build so I was just wondering if there is any last minute suggestions, tips, or things that I should do while everything is tore apart before I put everything back together. Comanche Club has been very helpful so far and has great information regarding this swap. Thanks.

Bilstein Shock Question
kill_burst replied to kill_burst's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
^ thanks. I will definitely measure and measure again. This is my first Jeep build so I am new to some of these things. Thanks for the advice and tips. -
I have been putting together a 3.5 inch lift with RE front suspension and Hell Creek 3 inch leaf springs in the rear. I purchased the Bilstein 5100 series shock for the front. However, I am having some difficulty finding the right shock for the rear. I saw an old post that someone used the 5125 series with p/n 33-185606. I also saw where someone suggested the Bilsteins with p/n 33-104645 or 33-185552. Anyone running the Bilsteins in the rear and if so what is the part number that I should be looking for. Thanks in advance.

Sorry its a 90 with a renix 4.0 2WD -
My Comanche has been having odd starting issues lately. It will run and start fine for weeks, then occasionally I will go to start it and it will do nothing. I will have interior lights and headlights, sometimes not the brightest, however I will have nothing when I turn the key. But, if I wait a few minutes or even noticed that if I unplug the battery and plug it back in it will fire right up. Does this sound like a grounding issue? I am going to follow cruisers tutorial on redoing the ground wires. Anything else I should look for? Thanks in advance. BTW its a 90 4.0 renix 2WD
