Read post #75. If I could go back, I would have double/triple checked everything. I have a short somewhere in the wiring harness that still needs to be repaired. The biggest thing is to try and figure out why the fusible link went bad in the first place. Good luck and the CC crew is very helpful.

That looks to be the option. I've got the 1988 wiring e-book website and will use it as a guide when rebuilding. I need to read up on what I need to rewire and what can be removed. All this electrical stuff makes me miss building classic mustangs with my Dad.

Does anyone have a lead on a complete wiring harness? My searches have come up empty.
-
Can you send me a few pictures?

this is the driver side of the truck. It appears that the orange wires got burned to a splice. I haven't cut into the orange wire to see how far past the splice the damage traveled.
-
The harness comes out that hole and runs between the radiator and auto tranny cooler. Then up the fender and under the washer fluid, until it plugs into the firewall.
-
No it isn't.
-
The damage did move down harness. Is that what you mean by "slicing into the harness"?
-
It looks the same.

I'm gonna drink a cold one tonight and start on the diagnostic work tomorrow. I'll post pictures and seek more assistance.
-
What's my best plan of action? Get a 87 harness with everything attached and get to work? Would the 88 harness work? Or is it easier to run all new wires?
-
Yeah. A CC member said he had a complete harness out of an 88 including computer. I asked if he had the B+ relays, starter relay, fusible links, and connectors. I'm waiting on his answer. Would an 88 harness work?
-
It appears that the damaged wiring went as far as the middle of the radiator and towards possibly splice E on the firewall.
-
I appears that the following are damaged: B+ latch relays (4) C106 C107 C104 C109 C103 C105 C335
-
Do you have the starter relay and fusible links, as well as, the B+ relays?

Just a quick update. After a few short test drives the truck was driving better than ever. I pulled into the driveway and jumped out to open the garage when I smelled wires burning. I am going to look at the damage tomorrow and am praying that it isn't that bad. I am prepared for the worst and placed a wanted ad on CC for a complete wiring harness, computer, sensors, etc. Also, on Monday I'll start calling the junkyards. If you know of someone with a wiring harness leftover from a swap let me know. If you have any other ideas for a fix I'd be happy to listen and try.

I am looking for a complete wiring harness and all the computers and sensors to go along with it. I am hoping someone is doing a swap and will have these parts leftover. The perfect sulotion would be an 87 auto wiring harness with all the fixings.

I replaced the fusible link and checked over everything with a meter to confirm that power was flowing. Once confirmed, I put everything back together and took her for a test drive. Thanks for all the help.

Cruiser this is great info. Thanks. I checked the fusible links for voltage and continuity. The destroyed fusible link had no voltage and had no continuity. Also, I found another fusible link that was in rough shape. I'll run by the auto parts store and get replacement fusible links.
-
I'll work on replacing fusible links off of the starter motor relay with 25-30 amp fuses. I'll updates once finished. Thanks for all the help.
-
Will do, Thanks

Its like the EC harness isn't getting power from the ECU. Can I check power for the FUel pump relay at C101? Is there away to bypass this set of wires? I was thinking about buying a new relay/fuse and using the extra/leftover hot wire off of the starter relay to create a new relay for the fuel pump.

The engine side didn't show a power voltage reading on the B pin.
