  1. Would be a great idea, but my exhaust currently ends at the transmission mount. No cat, no muffler, nothing. I bought it like that, and since I haven't driven it yet, I haven't got to putting a system on it. The list is getting smaller, so it's coming... Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk Well, that answers my question. Just a thought. I am following along to to hear what the problem is. My wife promised me I can have time to work on it this afternoon, so hopefully we will have it figured out today. [emoji3] Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

  3. Thanks for the info, I haven't got to work on it today, I will add that to the list of things to check. Hopefully tomorrow. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  4. My new flywheel. I will be probing the CPS and doing the mod to it after work, didn't have the time to don't this morning. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  5. They don't change, but I have been told the voids and the teeth that the CPS is different between the Renix and the HO. Can't confirm that myself, but in any case, I bought the flywheel for the truck, not for the transmission year. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  6. Sorry you got butthurt cruiser54, but the OP of this thread was Jackrabbit41 in case you didn't notice. But whatever (sic) or whoever, listen to cruiser54. He will lead you down the straight path. Nobody's better fixing Renix problems. :) desbennett004, could you provide the p/n of the flywheel you purchased? The flywheel I bought is LUK LFW194. It's good for 87 to 90 Jeeps apparently. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  7. No sir, I have not. I will do that in the morning for sure. I was wondering about the distance from flywheel measurement, and whether having the 89 CPS in the 98 bell housing might somehow increase the distance from the flywheel. I'm going to slot those holes tomorrow also, just to make sure I get a good signal. Thanks for the advice, I will report back with my results. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

  9. I used a renix flywheel from LUK. Double checked part numbers, it's compatible with the 89 4.0. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  10. Just did a AX15 swap from a 98 XJ into a 89 MJ, 4.0. Swapped flywheel, clutch, and Crank Position Sensor. Now it will start and idle fine, but once you try to give it any throttle whatsoever, it starts popping and backfiring, like the timing is out. Flywheel is correct, CPS is correct. Not sure if it's related to the Trans swap, or its just coincidental. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  11. No haven't messed with it. Everything ran fine until I did the Trans swap, now it runs like Crap. Not sure if it's related or not, the swap is pretty straight forward. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  12. I don't have a HO, it's Renix. I'm pretty sure it had a knock sensor, but I'm not sure if there is a limit it will retard timing if it's not working right. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  13. It feels like my problem is timing, it's popping and backfiring, like the timing is retarded even though it idles fine. My question is, what could cause that? If my knock sensor was bad/disconnected/damaged, would it retard the timing to that extent? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  14. Sometimes this stuff is like eating an elephant....one bite at a time. It feels like my problem is timing, it's popping and backfiring, like the timing is retarded even though it idles fine. 15. Looks like I still have another problem, but the broken vac line wasn't helping. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  16. Any clutch kit I have bought has the pilot bearing with it. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  17. On an auto the two connectors that look similar to that one near the dipstick are the NSS and TCU connectors......... That's what I think they are too... Might have an auto harness swapped in (perhaps with an engine swap), or the truck was originally an auto. Thanks for the input. Guess I don't have to worry about those connectors then. Still can get the truck to run properly though. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  18. I don't believe it was originally an auto, I've only had it for about 8 months, but I seem to remember the VIN came up as a manual Trans. Maybe they all had a generic harness that would work with both? In any case, I think you are right, don't think it has anything to do with the issue at hand. Still can't figure it out. Might have to see if I can do a code check, that might shed some light on the problem. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  19. I don't thinks it's for the Trans, the only connector I have on it that isn't plugged in is on the transfer case, which I believe is just to control a dash light to let you know if you are in 4x4 or not. Not sure where this one goes. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  20. On a side note, does anyone know what these connectors are for? They both come out of the harness near the dipstick. I found the 4 pin connector zip tied down near my starter, but can't find a connector for it. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  21. This is the new flywheel I put in. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  22. I did have a broken vac line to the map sensor, but I repaired it, and it hasn't made a difference. Having the clutch in or out doesn't make a difference. The idle drops out if I disconnect the map sensor, and comes back up when I reconnect, so it seems to be working. I'm stumped. It was running fine before the transmission swap. 23. I just checked my order, I got the LUK LFW194 flywheel, which is the one to get for Renix engines according to my research. I don't think I could have installed it incorrectly, I think it only goes in one way. I just put a new CPS in it this morning, and it's still running the same, backfiring and popping when you try to get above idle. Anyone have any other ideas? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  24. I didn't check the new one against the old one unfortunately. I'm pretty sure you can only install it one way, I just wanted to double check. I will check my paperwork and get the part number and check that it is the right one. I will be changing the CPS tomorrow, hopefully that fixes the problem. It ran fine before the transmission swap, not sure what else would be effected. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  25. Hi Guys, just installed an AX15 from a 98 XJ in my 89 MJ. Put in a new flywheel and clutch. Used the original CPS. Now it will start fine, but when I give it gas it backfires and won't rev up. I'm pretty sure you can't install a flywheel incorrectly, or the bolts won't line up. Is that correct? I'm putting a new CPS in tomorrow, hopefully that will fix it, I just wanted to double check.
