Thanks for the replies. the truck is a 91 and has a high pinion front, D44 rear swap with 4:56's/ 31" tall tires, fresh suspension, new ball joints, I just had both the front & and rear diff's rebuilt with new bearing and a new posi clutch pack, New shafts all around. The truck has a fresh 95 4.0 HO 6. I have cruised some of the builds here but it doesn't directly answer my original tech question in the tech forum about my truck. 1) Can anyone tell me what type of OD trans I have B) And if it bolts to any of the jeep/Chrysler V8 engines? I agree about the ability to tow 5000lbs. But I want to get there this month. I used a V6 Ford Ranger to tow my trailer to California and back. Car weights at 2000lbs., trailer is about 1000lbs. tops. It got me there and back but I worked that truck to death. Anyway. The question was about the transmission not the towing. That was a side bar.

Ya, Either I'm not used to they way the engine works or it's weak compared to a modern F.I. V8. The trans downshifts a lot when climbing inclined sections of freeway even without a trailer. I will need to pull a car trailer at highway speed and I think the way the truck is now it would kill the 6. I want 300+ hp.

We have a 91 shorty with a high pinion front and a 44 rear. So far all I did was put a plow and a trailer hitch on it. I am getting to a place where I'm thinking we could use a larger engine. We have a 95 6 cylinder HO now. Here's one question: We have a floor shift auto trans. It is an overdrive auto. My question is what type of auto trans is it? And will it bolt up to any Chrysler V8's? 318 or 340? I can fab mounts and wire in F.I. I just would rather keep the trans as is and bolt it to a V8.

I'm searching for the rear tail light harness connection. Left side rear under the box. It is an oval shaped plug. I searched a local yard but they didn't have a 91 or newer Comanche. The older trucks have a square plug. The Cherokees are not the same oval shape either. Looking for someone with several 91 or newer parts trucks that would cut this plug out for me. http://comancheclub.com/topic/48897-wtb-tail-light-harness-plug/

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=529534 This is the main plug at the rear of the box for the tail lights. The truck is a 1991 Comanche I need both sides of the plug with wiring. I am attempting to build a trailer harness without cutting into the harness or using those destructive scotch locks. The plug style is an oval shape. I checked an earlier Comanche at the salvage yard but it had a rectangle shaped plug.

Thanks for the posting tip on getting photos on here. I've never done that. The pinch spotter is a HF 220 unit. I changed the cord and added a 25' heavy gauge cord. I can reach any place in the shop with it now. The face spotter is an old Lenco. I upgraded it to duel purpose face and pinch spotter. I burned up one HF spotter while building that Mercedes but all in all it is an excellent value. I was spotting 16 ga, box rails with it. As long as were musing here. I have a question. Anyone have the measurement of the box from the cab edge to the leading edge of the wheel opening for the short and long box? My thought would be to start with a long box truck, use a short box and add the cab length to fit the space. If you needed more length with the cab to balance to look You could shorten the box behind the cab a few inches and not upset the stock appearance. I also would want it to look like something the factory could have done. BTW: Area51Werks is just my hobby shop.

4.0 liter Engine I.D. #

Thanks for the info. My 91 had an engine swap. Very stock job under the hood. If I hadn't have been told it was swapped I would have never known. The block shows the first number is 5 and it is an MX so that's good right? Did they have the HO engines in 95? -

I frequent a Porsche 914 forum. I don't have a place I host photos so I can't link them here. But here are a few posts of some of my work. Maybe this will give you some ideas. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=181906&hl= http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=177500&hl= http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=82905&hl= http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=82905&hl=

I don't know your experience level but I am a former collision/ resto shop owner. I would be happy to assist with cut locations and welding technics to get you started in the right direction. Are you planning a long box chassis with a short box swap?

4.0 stubble under load
Area51Werks replied to Jeepjeff859's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those are not the plugs you just installed. If those are the plugs you installed new then read them. If not put a couple miles on the truck with the new plugs and pull them and examine them. Google plug results and check the condition of your plugs against photos. https://www.google.com/search?q=spark+plug+diagnosis+pictures&safe=off&biw=1188&bih=535&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwiI_pvCw6_JAhVKVT4KHWxxDhkQsAQIHA Did you test the cap, rotor and leads? If there not new they could have failed due to age. May have worked fine when you left them be on the old engine but pulling a crispy lead and installing it on a new plug can be more then it's life can handle. BTW: 90% of fuel related problems are electrical. -

What plows do you guys have. Can you show photos of the mount? I want to put one on our MJ but want to see how they mount up first. I have an old Snow Way plow off a 90's wrangler. I was thinking of trying to use the mount. -

I stopped at a local truck accessory store and wanted to purchase a soft tonneau cover. No resources, checked the local FLAPS. No resources. Anyone have one? Where did you get it? I was shocked.

New question funny pop back and loss of power
Area51Werks replied to Area51Werks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I didn't know there was a code check method. I brought it into a local shop owned by a good friend. I'll let you know what they find. -
Following this. I had a similar issue. Just bought the truck. Drove it cross country 1800 miles with no issues. Similar idle thing. Started truck yesterday, idled for about 30 seconds, died. Started back up fine. Driving later on the freeway 60-65 mph. Truck down shifted pulling a long hill and bogged down like loss of power, back fired, and I eased off the gas. Didn't repeat again. I have a 91 4.0 auto trans
