  1. I have a grey mini center console that came out of my 1990 bench seat 5 speed manual. I have swapped in buckets and a Cherokee center console so its just sitting on my workbench. It is complete with the console itself, shifter boot retainer frame(Plastic), and the transfer case 4WD indicator plate. There are two tabs where the console bolts to the transmission tunnel bracket. The one directly under the shifter boot is broken at the bottom (It was that way when I bought the truck. The console never rattled, but I'm sure you could get a small L shaped bracket from Lowe's or Home Depot and rig somthing as well if you want. The original shifter boot was cracked, but in casting around for parts I ended up with 2 other nice ones so this one looks good with no cracks or holes. $30 for complete console and boot shipped. PM me with shipping address and for Paypal if interested. Pix on request.
  2. I have a couple of Peugeots, an AX-15, and a 3550. NONE of them want to shift from first to second when cold. And the 3550 uses some new, super-duper uber lube that was specicially formulated for that tranny and the 4500. It's the nature of the beast. Using synthetic gear lube helps, but be sure if you have an AX-15 that you get one that doesn't have sulfur-bearing compounds in it -- they attack the synchros. Redline has been reported to work well. I asked the same question here a short time ago when it started to get cold. My AX 15 either did not want to shift into second or made grinding noises on fast shifts. Sometimes hard to shift into first or reverse as well. On recommendation of this board I drained the trans and refilled with Redline MTF. Transmission shifts MUCH better now. Still just a little cranky when its really cold but much diffrent than before.
  3. GL5 gear lubes contain sulfur, which is what damages the bronze synchros. But GL-3 gear lube was and is the correct fluid for the AX-15. Since GL-3 is no longer available, GL-4 which still contains no sulfur is now the correct fluid. Chrysler has a history of completely blowing the fluid recommendation for these trannies. They are the ones that started putting the GL-5 gear lubes in that damaged the synchros. Now after the AX-15's have their warranties expire.. only now Chrysler recommends to use motor oil. The same exact situation happened with the AW-4 fluid recommedation. Up until Apr 08 Chrysler recommends Dex III in all AW-4's, going so far as putting a note in TSB's specifically exempting the AW-4. But in Apr 08, when the 2001 7/70 warranties would have been expiring.. they suddenly reverse course and start recommending ATF+4. Doesn't leave me with much confidence in any recommendations for Jeeps..... All part of thier evil plan? The trans lasts just long enough to get out of warranty then self destructs in time to make you purchase another vehicle or spend alot of money in thier service departments. :fool: Nothing like a good conspiracy theory LOL.
  4. WOW! That is a really nice MJ. I agree and would just keep it mostly original and not drive it in the winter. I have a built LJ for wheeling and my mj is my DD now. I'm fixing mine up with the stealth upgrades and mabe a mild lift and 31's. As for when old vehicles stopped being 'Classics', mabe its just your area? The stock MJ front end actually looks classic to me. I get stopped constantly and asked questions about the truck. People are always saying things like: How old is that? Is that really a Jeep? I diddnt know Jeep made trucks. A Jeep truck? That is really cool.
  5. Woo Hoo! Picked up the Manche last night from Rob at Mountian Valley Customs. They fabricated seat mounts as as the stock bucket seat mounts would have been too expensive. Holes in the floor are fixed and dash lights are working as well. Happy to have it back, was starting to miss the thing. Next is knocking the remainder of the surface rust off the floor and coating with POR 15 then pulling the seats and console long enough to replace the carpet. Gonna put a set of Husky Liners over the carpet once its in. Trying to decide between black and grey. Pix of the floor fix, seats and console installed and detail shots of the fabbed brackets below. Full interior shot is not the best but the light was reflecting off the siding on the side of the house and messing up the camera. Ill take some more later. For now...........
  6. Now that - is awesome! I love the 2 door XJ's and winced when I saw the damage. But what a brilliant idea! I can't wait to see how it turns out.
  7. The MJ is still up at Mountian Valley Customs in PA. I spoke with them and confirmed that after checking with this site that the 95 seats are not an easy mod to the MJ bench brackets. Had a couple of options. There are 1990 MJ bucket seats and brackets in a JY near them but no idea of condition or cost. Second option was for MVC to custom fabricate seat brackets. I have not heard back from them as Friday was insane at work for me and that winter storm is hammering us all right now. The MJ is supposed to be finished by Monday. Ill post up as soon as I know somthing and then pix of the results.
  8. Here you go: http://www.dieselpowermag.com/features/ ... index.html  I know its a swap. If Chrysler would just figure out that the Power Wagon needs a diesel and the JK needs a Hemi - they would sell alot more vehicles. Hell the JK could use a diesel too.
  9. Gotta PM from MPFDM and the info here helped as well. Thanks! Ill be able to let MVC know that either the brackets need to be modified or the the floor braces from the 95 need to be welded in. I love this bar.
  10. Well the Comanche has taken a trip up to Mountian Valley Customs in PA. The truck is my daily driver now. I have been stupidly buisy with work and moving into the new house. With all the rain around here I couldent leave the holes in the floor and I diddnt have time to fix them myself. The floor has been fixed, the dash light problem worked out, but they are catching hell trying to put the 95 Cherokee seats onto the Comanche brackets. :hmm: questions about this in the tech forum. Pix of the floor fix and new carpet install when I get the truck back.
  11. HELP!! I have a set of excellent condition 4 door Cherokee bucket seats that I want to swap into a 90 bench seat Comanche. Originally when I read thru the threads here it seemed that all that was necessary was to remove the Cherokee brackets from the sliders, remove the Comanche brackets from the bench and bolt the sliders to the brackets. Apparently the later model Cherokee seats are harder to install. Can anybody explain how to do this? Is there an earlier Cherokee or Comanche seat bracket that will bolt to the later model seats? The truck is at Mountian Valley Customs in PA and they say that no matter how they mock up the seats to the brackets, they are too far over and onto the transmission tunnel. MPFDM, PM sent.
  12. Our Excursion is a 2005, last year made I think. 6.0 diesel, full tow package with air bag leveling in the rear and electric trailer brakes, 4x4, A/C, factory entertainment system and all the goodies. It has a Dana 60 front axle! Its primarily my wifes daily driver. We have four children - two girls and two boys between the ages of 5 and 15. The truck can haul them, thier friends, all thier stuff, tows the LJ and still has tons of power on the freeway. If its not pulling anything, you have to watch your speed because as big as it is - it just wants to flat out haul azz. :D It has had a few expensive engine problems (Horizontal fuel conditioning module, Fuel injection control module, EGR)but we still love it! I think the previous owner did not take care of it. Maint on these big diesels is critical. Got it during the height of the fuel crisis for just under $20,000. NADA was still over $32,000 used and new in 05 it cost over $50,000.
  13. Thank you for the compliment. Keeps me motivated to work on the truck! Lately we have been buisy at work and with the move to the new house. I finished putting installing the headliner and sunvisors in the dark, and that sure was interesting trying to get the screws for the sunvisors lined up thru the small holes in the headliner when I could barely see up there.
  14. Right - after looking at some of the other rust damage on the Comanches here I am lucky to have found one with not too much damage.
  15. So I'm driving to work at 5:30 in the morning and suddenly the instrument lights on the dash quit working. The little light that lights the transfer case position is also not working. Look behind the truck and the tail lights are also not working. In front marker lights are not working. Brake lights and turn signals OK. Checked the fuzes and they are blown. Replace the #10 Tail/marker light fuze, turn on the lights and get the tail lights back. Replace the #5 instrument light fuze and it immediately blows. Any ideas what might be blowing the fuzes?
  16. Finally stopped raining so I got the opportunity to check out the rust holes in more detail. :( Small hole from above Large hole from above Large hole from below Small hole from below Well not the end of the world, just gotta get them repaired. Crawled around underneath and there really is not much more. Unibody frame looks ok as well as all mounts - inside rear bed fenderwells, etc. If you look at the pic of the large hole from above - it looks like the dreaded clutch fluid leak.
  17. They are stock but Ive got 4 black ones and the JY down the street from me has a cherokee with 3 grey ones left. JY wants $5 each for them. I will send you black ones for the price of shipping. PM me your address if you want em.
  18. The entire cluster in the mail tomorrow! Here it is next to the 90 cluster I just installed:
  19. I just did this mod. You will have to change both the oil and temperature switches to sender units. The oil switch/sender is near the oil filter and the coolant temp is on the driver side of the engine tward the rear next to the valve cover. An extensive writeup on the swap with lots of pix and the exact part numbers for the sending units that you need to get is on the NAXJA website here: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921205 It even shows you how to reset the odometer to match your trucks actual miles! Be careful when removing the speedometer cable from the rear of the cluster in your truck - it breaks easy and then you will have to pull another one at the JY when you pick up the full cluster. Also - 86-90 (Renix) clusters are diffrent from 91-96 (HO) For the least problems get a cluster from the same year and engine (4 or 6 cyl) in your truck.
  20. Here is the clock and stereo in the dash:
  21. So the bench went back in and I have to look for a professional to fix the rust. Diddnt have alot of time as I had to go to Texas for a few days. Yesterday I found another full gauge cluster at a local junkyard. The install is pretty easy so out came the old school cluster, tested the new cluster and then pulled it again. Took it inside and reset the odometer to match the trucks mileage. Then reassembled it with the black piece from around the gauges on my original idiot light cluster as the new cluster was grey. then took it out to the truck and back in it went. Got the clock in and reinstalled the Sony IPOD controller stereo. Also picked up a grey window crank handle while I was at the JY and replaced the one I broke while pulling the passenger side door panel to put on the Cherokee mirror. Lots o' clusters: Odometers matched: Cluster in the truck:
  22. OK been about 2 weeks and got some work done. First a pic of the headliner in: Next I tried to start on the new carpet and bucket seat swap. I had been dreading what might be lurking under the carpet - it was worse than I hoped for but not nearly as bad as it could have been. Driver side has 2 holes. Passenger side is surface rust.
  23. Were you looking for the large console for bucket seats, or the small console for a bench seat?
  24. Tested out the gauges in the swapped cluster and it appears the water temp gauge is bad. All others are working normally. I like the old school gauges, but I think another member here needs the blue tach and gas gauge more for a correct resto of his 87 Chief. Gonna go to Maryland this weekend hopefully and pick up a full gauge cluster from a 90 Cherokee. Will be correct in my Manche anyway. Got some other work accomplished. I don't like the looks of the small 'Wide Angle' stock mirror so I pulled it and installed black mirrors that it should have came with anyway: Anybody want the small mirror I took off. Ill give it away to somebody here. Otherwise its going in the trash. Anybody have a grey manual window crank handle? Broke the passenger side handle while pulling the door panels to install the black mirrors. Then my wife surprised me with an early Christmas present: Then I got some parts from a member here I had been speaking with for awhile. A headliner board with NEW cover and a tire winch! :D He says he still has rear bumpers, beds, tail lights and more here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18341 Got the headliner in tonight but couldent take pix before dark. This weekend I'm going to pull the carpet, install the new set and do the bucket seat conversion. Problably will be all for awhile as we just closed on the house.
  25. PM'd you. Just saw this thread. The cluster I have came from a 1987 4.0L Cherokee according to the person I got it from. You saw the picture. Its yours as soon as I can lay my hands on a 1990 full cluster. :D
