Can Spell Comanche

Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. Because I want a truck that I can start and drive without worrying about where I'll be stranded at, and how much it'll cost to get running again. I've been stranded 3 times by this truck in 1 year. Time for it to go. It might be different if I had time to work on it. With an 8:30-6PM job and a 5 day old baby, I don't have time to spend working on vehicles.
  2. Shop is replacing the alternator and new belt. I'm selling it after this.
  3. When the head gasket blew right before Thanksgiving. Probably has less than 200 miles since then.
  4. OK, my 89 4.0 was also making a squeaking noise from under the hood. Thought it might be the belt, and that I would replace it soon. Then just last weekend, I heard a small popping noise at idle, but only after the engine warmed up. Then today (first time driven since then), I went to the gas station to get some ethanol free gas, and it died while in neutral. I started it back up in park, and it started whining and squeaking like hell. I pulled over to a parking space, and shut it off. Now it doesn't restart at all. Ideas on where to start?
  5. Also, if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a thousand pictures. Post a link to a video of the truck starting up and driving if you can.
  6. I finally got around to doing this yesterday. Pretty easy swap. The hardest part was getting the old hoses off of everything. They were stuck, even when I took the hose clamps off. I bought some new lower hose, and got a coupling for the upper hose. Do I need to do anything with that small upper barb? It's got a tiny copper insert in it, and it might be an opening of 1/16 of an inch on the inner diameter.
  7. OK, I just filled the existing bottle and let the truck idle for a bit. No leakage, but I have white smoke out the exhaust, and a small amount of smoke coming from the valve cover during idle. Head gasket?
  8. I bought the Intrepid bottle last week from OReilly's, they actually had one in stock. I looked at getting a used one, but prices were crazy high for used parts. I put a bunch of water/coolant into the existing bottle today, and let the engine idle for a bit. Started it several times to get the water to leave the reservoir and actually go into the system. No water came out of the system at idle. I thought it might have been something loose that allowed the coolant out, but it appears it was only the bottle that failed. I might replace the thermostat too to eliminate that as a failure point.
  9. Funny you say that, mine came with 235/75/15s, and I thought they were too big, so I went with 225/70 Cooper Adventurer AT3s. The main problem was the offset on the aftermarket wheels was so small that they were sticking out past the fender flares. I went back to the stock turbine wheels and it looks proper now.
  10. Where are you located? I've considered selling mine since my dad has a couple extra trucks and is willing to give me one. Gotta get my coolant bottle issue solved first though.
  11. I think I need to do the Intrepid bottle swap. My 89 MJ blew the coolant bottle up on the way home yesterday. I tried to put the cap back on, but when I screwed it tight, it would release and I never could get it to stay on. I had to drive half a mile at a time on the way home, and let it sit for 10 minutes at each stop. Thank God it was only 25*F out yesterday. Almost flipped it on its side trying to get off of the road once. Only problem is: I checked the dipstick once I got home, and it looked kinda crappy on the end, and I just did an oil change less than 200 miles ago. Time to check the head gasket methinks. I might just put a bunch of new parts on it while I've got the damn thing apart. Might splurge for a new thermostat, water pump and hoses.
  12. Welcome from Hickory!
  13. Had a case of wobble on my 89 MJ between 50-55 mph. Recently bought some Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires on discount tire direct, and had 'em mounted to the stock turbine wheels. Got rid of the aftermarket wheels and Goodyear tires...no more wobble. I guess the old ones were simply out of balance somewhere. Looks better now too. The offset of the old wheels was so low that they were sticking out beyond the fenders. People were asking me if I had bought it off of a Mexican.
  14. Does he mean the rubber seals around the side windows? Those can be had online fairly cheap. It'd take less than 30 mins to do both sides. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
  15. Did Jeep make an extended cab Comanche?
