I too was curious of the going rate for these. I discovered my passenger side lense is cracked at the edge.

Built A New "stock" Bumper....

That's pretty damn impressive if I do say so myself! Great job! I could use one for mine since it's all twisted. -
I'd appreciate that. Shoot me a PM with what you'd like for it, does it have the bracket to attach it to the firewall? Did you do away with it because it's a different vac setup for the HO motor? Being that I'm new to this platform I have no idea what can safely be undone, but from all I've read Renix and vacuum nightmare go hand in hand so I don't really want to add to the problem. Any idea about the seemingly missing vacuum ports that are depicted near where the missing EGR setup goes? Also, after getting my hands dirty with this thing I reread your original post and everything you said was spot on.

Wait, who said they are old tires?? Like new as in he just put them on, not as in 8 years old with low mileage. The spare is the old tread pattern however. More info on where I can buy said knock off Moabs? I'm intrigued... EDIT - Did some searching and it looks like Tuff T20R is a Moab replica but they are still over $500 for a set before tires, I can find OEM Moabs for the same price.

245/75/16 MTRs claimed a nd appear to be like new. Still have rubber nipples on them. They look to be $220 each new which is why i'm considering it, but I agree with you that it seems most owners think they have gold on their hands for some reason with the wheels.

What's a good price to pay for 16" Moabs with like MTRs mounted. Found a set of 5 for $950, is this pretty average? Obviously doesnt seem to be a smoking deal but it does seem fair. Thoughts? Looking for some for the Comanche or just good Moabs cheap without tires.

Thanks for the good info! The column key is a GM key for sure, I can't recall the one for the doors. I intend to do 97+ doors anyway, so I should be able to match all my keys.
-
I couldn't find a definite answer for this but I just picked up an 86 Comanche and the owner gave me 2 keys. One only works the doors and one only works the ignition. I saw some mention of the "single key mod" but wasn't really sure if it was a mod or if it was just a joke because its common to have to replace the ignition cylinder. I would assume one key should work doors and ignition, but i've never owned one before so i'm not sure. I'd assume i could rekey the ignition to match the doors, or buy 3 new cylinders with keys. Just curious what the real deal is with this.

So I picked up an '86 2.5 4 speed MTX 4x4 Comanche this past weekend and the shifter is pretty sloppy. I had an especially hard time with staying in 3rd and 4th gear unless I held it very firmly in place until the clutch was all the way out. It's been quite cold and snowy so I haven't dug into the truck at all yet but I'm curious if this is likely an issue with the AX4 itself internally, or if it's something easier to address like worn bushings or something with the linkages? I tried searching but couldn't come up with anything good. I'm used to dealing with Neons (15 years newer) but for those it's common for the rubber shifter bushings to deteriorate and cause this same sort of issue. Any pointers on what to haev a look at would be appreciated. :)

Onlyinajeep - thanks for the info about the '86, and I tend to agree with all your other suspicions because I feel the same way about it... I'll have to get back to you about your questions though as I haven't touched it since I brought it home and how it's sitting with snow and ice all over it. Comanchepur - I agree it has a lot of potential I just get aggravated at all the issues simultaneously. The worst part of any "new" car for me is undoing all the prvious owners neglect. I'm very meticulous when it comes to my cars so I don't like them being neglected and needing maintenance.

Thanks for the good input! Any idea why it might be stalling out when coming to a stop if I don't give it gas quick enough? The kid said its the aftermarket o2 sensor someone put in there but I don't know that I'm convinced. A friend of mine said the speedometer sensor could be bad... Any thoughts on this? I'm aware of a VSS but not a speedometer sensor.

I like that idea! one of my neon buddies actually wants to do just that. I know there are at least a few SRT swapped or 2.4 turbo Wranglers out there like this one http://www.reno4x4.com/forum/showthread.php/5362-Turbocharged-2-4L-Jeep-TJ-for-me!!! Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the welcome guys. gogmorgo, I had actually considered that... perhaps vinyl/rubber floor mats, or some sort of spray on lining might suit it better.

Hello all! I've recently decided to buy a truck because I have a need for one for home renovations I'm in the middle of and my girlfriend is selling her '98 F-150 at the end of the month. I looked into getting an older 4x4 Ram or Dakota (I'm a Mopar guy) but they were all pretty overpriced for the condition they were in. I used to drive an '01 XJ about 8 years ago and always enjoyed them. So naturally the next thought in my mind was hmmm.... a combination between a truck and a Cherokee... A Comanche! Why didn't I think of it earlier! I got on Craigslist and found one that was modded (lifted, XJ front end, doors, even the tail lights) but was out of my price range. The next day I looked again and a weathered blue '86 2.5 4 speed manual long bed was listed. I went and looked at it and it's rough all around but doesn't appear to have any significant rust beyond surface rust and a drivers side floor patch panel. I gave the guy a deposit and will be picking it up Saturday. I ended up paying $2000 for it which I'm not sure if that's a good price or not... but it runs, isn't totally rotted out, and is inspected so I went for it. The brake lines to the rear were already replaced (thank god) however the muffler just rusted through so I will be getting a replacement exhaust from NAPA for the truck once I get it. I've been doing some research and was shocked at the amount of info about these "renix" Jeeps I did not know. I was pretty surprised that a fair amount of the parts on the newer (Chrysler owned) XJs aren't direct swaps into the older ones. I still have a lot to learn but hopefully it will be a reliable drivetrain for me like the 4.0s are. This truck won't be my daily driver as I have other cars for that, but it will be a workhorse/"toy" ...since they all become toys anyway, right? That said, initial thoughts/plans are: 3" lift, Moabs hopefully, maybe Bushwacker flares, 97 XJ front end, doors, POR 15 the uniframe, and repaint the truck eventually. I was hoping 97 seats would bolt right in but read they don't without floor work. However... when I looked at it there were already 97 seats in it... I'll have to look closer but it looks like some sort of adapters were made from angle iron to mount the rails.... looks crude, but it works I suppose. There is no carpet on the floor so I'd like to add some so the floor doesn't rot from wet shoes etc. Maybe I could find a cheap used XJ carpet and cut it to fit my cab. These are just things on my mind obviously subject to change but it's my vision. Someone on here owns "Prime" which is a big inspiration to me, that thing is beautiful. Besides the Comanche I own an '03 Dodge Neon SXT that I completely rebuilt and swapped an SRT-4 drivetrain/everything into. This is my baby which generally stays in the garage. I also own a yellow 03 SRT-4 with Mopar Stage 3 turbo and Turbo Toys, Mopar Stage 2 coilovers.... that thing is FAST, and my current daily driver is an orange blast 05 Neon SXT which is getting converted to manual trans, R/T engine specs, has BC coilovers, exhaust, Mopar lip kit, SRT hood, seats..... the whole 9 yards. Yes... I have a thing for neons. I've owned 6 of them so far. And as you can tell subtlety is not my thing. "Leave it alone" is not something I'm familiar with. :laughin: I'm sure I will posy up some pictures of all my vehicles as I get situated around here. Anyway, thanks for having me here and I look forward to do a lot of research and being part of the community! I'll post some pics of the truck once I pick it up :) -Ryan
