  1. i know advance auto carries them in all sorts of lengths with the ends on them and the ends crimped appropriately. but take your time and make sure you look at the labels on each one. you want the correct diameter as well as the correctly flared ends.
  2. edit: from the grand cherokee - nope. they use a coil/link setup instead of our leaf setup the xj - i believe the leaf perches aren't in the same location either
  3. yup, i'm very lucky in that regard. i worked out of a 3rd floor apartment for too darn long. then this small house came up for sale from a friend. and it happened to have the shop in the back yard. it's a little larger than a 2 car garage. but it's got some height
  4. Roanoke, VA to be exact  so i'm still in the heart of hokie territory!
  5. the first order of business so far was to get her road worthy. the tires were in gawd-aweful shape. i am a pack rat, so i still had my old tires/wheels that i pulled off of my white 98 xj. before: after: she's a little more presentable now ;)
  6. i've been wanting an MJ for quite some time. i had found a MINT 91 on Craigslist but the owner kept giving me the run around. oh, well, his loss - i had cash in hand. well, pursuing that MJ really got me hung up on them. i happened on this one on Craigslist as well. once i signed up on here, i found out that another member had looked at it but passed because it needed some work. i'm using this as an excuse to try out some things that i'm just too scared to do on my other jeeps. heck, if i mess it up too bad, i can always make a killer offroad trailer out of it ;) here's a picture of it's good side: the main specs: 1989 MJ short bed/4.0L/231 tc/auto tranny/d35 rear this will become my to/from work driver as well as parts hauler. but i admit that i'm a little vain when it comes to what i drive. i like to drive things that look good. ...this MJ doesn't...right now. that's why my project's nicknamed the Ugly Duckling. others might not (others outside of the jeep community) see her potential, but i can see it. the plan: (in no particular order) [*:2xku6v9l]get rid of the UGLY brown - i'm currently trying to pick between a silver or desert tan [*:2xku6v9l]mild lift ~ 4.5" ( i'm upgrading my xj's suspension so i can scavenge a lot of lift parts off of it) [*:2xku6v9l]more aggressive tires. [*:2xku6v9l]the front ds fender is toast so it needs replacing - so i'm pondering a 97+ front end conversion if i can find the parts local and reasonable [*:2xku6v9l]then freshen up the motor. EDIT: i forgot to mention, the progress might be a little slow on this one. i've been putting off my green xj for a while now and she needs a little bit of love first.
  7. ...that's how these things go...right? :rotfl2: well i've been lurking for a week or so and i thought it'd be a good time to make it official. some of yall might recognize my user ID from many of the other message boards i'm a part of. well as of a week ago, i have reason to join this fine board. i picked up an 89 MJ. as it turns out, one of the members here had looked at it and posted about it. he passed up on it though. she does need some work, but i've been fortunate that in these trying financial times, i've been able to retain my job so i have some money to play with. here's my "stable" The Good '98 XJ/2" home brew bb/'06 moabs/~30x9.50s The Bad '98/way too many things to list The Fugly '89 MJ/stock right now, the white 98 xj is my dd'er and trip vehicle. but i only have a 1.6 mile commute to work. i've been wanting to pick up a "beater" of sorts that i can put the short/hard miles on and save the xj that's in great condition. i'll start another thread in the projects section specific to the MJ that'll have some more pics and my plans for it.
  8. i've got an airflow on my trail xj and love it  here are some pics from the install: (don't mind the road salt) it works well with my raised stock flares. i raised the flares up to the first body line. and almost invisible from the driver's perspective
