  1. Is there a way to know if the transmission had an external or internal slave clutch or not?
  2. thanks for the info guys. I ended up getting a good deal on an ax15 mated to a 231. the only thing is now i have to get a bell housing and bearing retainer. it came with an adapter and bell housing to mate to a chevy 350. so I'll be getting rid of that and need the proper bell housing and bearing retainer. anyone know if i can pull the front bearing out without splitting the case? just thought I'd replace it while changing the retainer.
  3. So i was wondering, what, if any, are the differences in AX15's through out the years? The reason I ask is cuz I'm going to do an AX15 swap and I think I'm getting one from someone who doesn't know what year it's from. Basically I need to identify it by looking at it, just so I know what I need exactly. Any help would be great.
  4. Well I've been in NC for a while now, getting settled in and what not. It's time to take care of the Ride. This morning I got in the truck to start it and warm it up. Soon as it fires up I hear some Pretty horrible noises coming from the transmission, I verify this by stepping on the clutch and the noise goes away. So I've been wanting to do an AX15 swap for a long time now, just haven't had the chance or funds to do so. Well now I'm kinda forced to do so. So what I'm asking is, where in NC is there a good source to find transmissions if I decide to just replace the one I have for the time being? or What are the tricks to finding a donor Cherokee to do a full AX15 swap? I don't seem to be able to find any around here. Here meaning Raleigh/Durham area. Thanks for reading, looking forward to hearing every ones suggestions.

I know there was a thread on here somewhere about what to have as far as equipment and stuff you need to have on the trail, spares, what you need on the vehicle, safety stuff, anyone know where that is or can just write up a quick list? Thanks! was there a sticky cuz i thought there was and i can't find it
  9. awesome! thanks alot for the help. those ford injectors, will they affect my fuel mileage at all? if it gets better, great! I just don't want it to get worse. not that I'm replacing them hoping for better mileage.
  10. Hi guys! quick question, does anyone know what the those 5.0 injectors that are supposedly an upgrade for the the 4.0? I tried searching but can't seem to get a good answer to what vehicle they come from or part number maybe, anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks for the help! oh i have an 89 4.0 5 speed 4x4
  11. Ha ha! I really liked that commercial although I'm kinda partial to this one because my friends whom I now work for did this commercial that won the super bowl Doritos contest that year!
  12. looks like i'm going to need to replace the rear axle soon so i'm looking for a ford 8.8 from an explorer with disc brakes, 3.55s so if you happen to have a good one and are willing to part with it for a reasonable price that would be great!
  13. oh yeah got some new kicks for the comanche! out with the old... in with the new! they are canyon wheels with 235/75-15 goodyear wranglers. found it on CL, tread on the tires are almost brand new!
  14. i put my zj box in two days ago and i couldn't get the mj pitman arm off so i said what the heck i'll try it with the zj arm. so far it hasn't bothered me yet. seems to steer fine and all. i'll eventually put the mj arm on...once i get it off :hmm:
  15. sweet i was acttually planning on going there tomorrow to get one. flint54, did the one you left behind look ok? that would save me so much time if i didn't have to remove it. hey since you're doing yours this weekend, we should have a steering box replacement party! i noticed a some shimmy going down the road and i noticed a little knocking or clicking when i turn the wheel from one side to the other. i had my wife turn the wheel while i look underneath for anything loose, thats when i found the steering box shaft would move from one side to the other when i wheel was moved. everything else underneath was tight as i just replaced most things in the last year. i put a new track bar on it just today thinking it was that.
  16. anyone ever try to rebuild one? it steers fine its just the shaft is loose. it doesn't even leak fluid.
  17. staking? :hmm: whats that? i feel kinda stupid
  18. i'm kinda in a bind right now. i need to replace my steering box really quick. so i wanted to know what and if there was a more heavy duty or just plain better steering box that i could get at the JY that would be direct bolt on. i tried a search but was having a hard time finding info. if someone could piont me at the right direction please! that would be great. oh i have an 89 4.0 ba10/5 231 swb power steering. thanks again to all the guru's out there
  19. the box i have is 13x13"and 9" deep on the bottom, 4" deep at the top. i then mount my amp underneath the sub box
  20. i've had my old 10" MTX with a sony Xplod 250 watt amp. nothing fancy, just enough to get good sound out of the whole truck.
  21. well finally got my new carpet in and installed! i also made a rear panel for my truck. i used 1/2 inch thick plywood and wrapped with speaker carpet. that idea came from this month's comanche of the month. i didn't know how the brackets were on there normally, it didn't have any when i got the truck, so i made my own with some stainless steel and used some of those t nuts to bolt it to the panel. also put some nuts for my sub and amp to be mounted on. here are some pics
  22. i would like to get measurements from someone for the rear speaker brackets. i want a set and can't find any so i figure i would make some. i have access to a shear and break at work so i would be pretty easy to make one, just need measurements.
  23. whatcha doin with the ax15 and the 231 attached to it? dibs if its any good and you wanna sell it :D
  24. did a little bit of insulation today and then put the seats in cuz i have to drive it to work in the morning. went to lowes and got some self adhesive duct insulation stuff to use on the floor. seems pretty good, wish it was more sticky though.
