  1. When he does get all back together and working correctly he still won't have four wheel drive because there is no vacuum going to the front axle.
  2. Where are you located? Another member might be able to swing by to help diagnose it.
  3. With the engine off, depress the clutch and see if you can turn the driveshafts. You'll have to get the wheels off the ground so you're not trying to drive the axles. If you can't turn it you probably have a slave cylinder issue or some other clutch issue.
  4. The reason your front axle isn't driving is because it needs vacuum to engage the shift fork to drive the wheels. There should be a write up on how to permenatly engage the front axle shift fork. Did you know for sure the transmission you put in was in good working order? Are you sure of the condition of the rear end?
  5. If you have a stock 4.0 radiator, just put two stock 4.0 electric fans in, they'll bolt right in. You may need to wire in a controller and relays. I'm sure somebody else on here can walk you through the electrical part.
  6. Well I replaced the whole cooling system on my truck. I found that I probably don't really need the aux fan on it. One of the previous owners put a cooler thermostat in it and the temperature gauge was going from about 180 to 250. I put a new radiator, (the original one was still in it, it was toast) water pump and thermostat (OEM 195) in it. Got all the air out and the gauge was reading about 240-250 steady. It didn't act or feel that hot so I grabbed my brothers IR thermometer and scanned the engine, 210 at thermostat housing, 235 on head above the exhaust ports and 175-180 around the sparkplug hole. So no worries, I just have an inaccurate gauge. Is there any adjustment on the gauge?
  7. Where are you located? I'm sure somebody local to you would swap.
  8. My 92 didn't come with the Electric fan. There was a fan wire tied to the main harness with some tape, I cut the tape and plugged it in to a working fan. I added the relay and a fuse to the PDC in the proper place. The fan still doesn't come on when it comes up to temp. What am I missing? With the weather getting hot, the truck is starting to run to close to the red while in traffic for my comfort. I'm contemplating running a switch from the dash to a relay to power the fan. I have the power/comfort switch and a cargo light switch that I can put into my dash from an 88 MJ to power the relay. Any other ideas? Thanks. :wrench:
  9. Sure you can, just cut and weld the other end. Did on mine to 44 45 something inches. No need to cut it now, I already have another shaft in there all bolted up with new ujoints. I lucked out being able to use something I already had in my parts stash. Thanks for the info though, I didn't know what the shaft looked like on the inside so I didn't want to cut it and lose the shaft.
  10. Can't cut the 2wd shaft, it is a 4" tube shaft with a 3" shaft inside it with rubber between them. I'm all set though, I used a NP231 and AX15 from a 96 XJ and I was able to use a shaft out of a 88 Big Ton that had an AW4 in it. The 96 231 with external slip is longer than the older internal slip style 231 by about 1.5". It was enough to make it fit, I'll see how it works when I get everything else buttoned up and take it for a spin.
  11. Blew the Dana 35 in my MJ today, I already have a Dana 44 to put in it. I'm converting it from 2WD to 4WD in the future and the driveshaft I have doesn't work in either application. So I need a shaft for a 1992 LWB with a 4.0, AX15, NP231 and Dana 44. I'm located in Northwest Connecticut. Thanks.
  12. I just finished this swap in a 1992 4.0 H.O. Only difference between the 86-90 MJ's and the 91-92's that I found was that I couldn't find the coolant temperature sending unit for an MJ. So I just asked them to look up the XJ part number. This was at autozone so it might just be them. AZ part # is TU236. Be very careful with this sending unit, it is very easy to bust the connector off. I used a 14mm 1/4" drive deep socket. The temp switch is 13mm. :wrench:
  13. Rear ZJ springs are about 3" shorter than front XJ/MJ springs and are about the same rate. Good luck on your endeavor. Go figure, I post this and a couple lines down there's a whole thread about it. :fool:
