  1. Swapped my 1989 dummy cluster for http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-1990-Jeep-Cherokee-Comanche-Wagoneer-Speedo-Cluster-85mph-130kmh-/160994981363?viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AX%3AeRTM%3AMOTORS%3A1123&item=160994981363&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=hnRm%252BVdhnnm4%252FesIpu%252BKuRPE6qE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 cluster. None of the gauges are working but the lights are. Hazards come on but don't flash. Anyone have any ideas?
  2. Theres some pretty good trails out here. Nothing crazy but you're absolutely right. Its 90% on the road. I just googled best locker for DD and Detriot came up a lot. I'll look into what options I have. Clutch plates are a must if I'm going to keep it either LSD or open diff. If I do decide to lock it I'll just go big and regear from my 3.07 crappy ($*% (*%*#@ gear ratio lol. Not my idea was on there when I bought it lol.
  3. Sorry I was half asleep when I posted last night. I have a dana 44 with LSD. The limited slip is pretty much gone since it doesnt have the correct spider gears. I'm not entirely sure how it works but when my buddy took out the mini spool he told me some of the clutch plates were cracked and the retaining clip one side was broken. Then when we dropped in the gears they didnt fit snug since they were made for an open diff. Same thing with the mini spool. The gap in size is causing the rear end to clank and pop. I was mixing up stock "Trac Lok" with the Detriot "TrueTrak". My carrier as far as I was told is fine. The reason I'm so interested in this is for one I would like to have a half decent locker in that I can use for a daily driver and the detriot is what most people suggested. Getting another Dana 44 is damn near impossible here since Hawaii has $#!&e for junk yards and everything here is gutted for Toyotas. I was thinking about stepping it up to a ford 8.8 but I have the alloy shaft upgrade in my rear end. But if dropping in a detroit is going to cause me to have to regear and what not then its not worth it. don't have the money or the time to do that since I'm getting stationed back in the mainland soon. Just sucks I'm going to have to drop almost as much cash getting new spider gears and clutch plate as I would for a locker. Damn sorry I linked the wrong detriot : http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrain-Differentials/Dana-44-Detroit-Locker.aspx?t_c=12&t_s=237&t_pt=101501&t_pn=EAT187SL16D
  4. Few quick questions. Ok might not be so quick. Back Story: Had a mini spool in my rear axle. Was driving me crazy so pulled it. Found out it was a limited slip and a couple of my clutch plates were cracked, ordered the wrong spider gears (got for an open diff) and the guy that put the locker in before me didnt install the right parts. Now my rear axle clanks every tire rotation just like it did with the mini spool. Basically I took half @$$ parts since I didnt have anything else and tried to make it work. So, wrong spider gears / cracked clutch plates / open diff What I need help with is finding a way to put in a Detroit locker. I'm guessing I need to get a new clutch plate set http://www.ebay.com/itm/708203-Dana-44-Chrysler-9-25-Trac-Lok-Clutch-Disc-Plate-Kit-/360630867385?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53f74655b9&vxp=mtr Detroit locker for TrueTrac http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrain-Differentials/Dana-44-Rear-TrueTrac.aspx?t_c=12&t_s=237&t_pt=101501&t_pn=EAT913A589 Now I'm sorry for the stupid questions but the detriot locker should replace the (wrong) spider gears right? I'm guessing since the spider gears and mini spool didnt fit correctly in the limited slip carrier its causing the constant clanking in my rear axle? Thank you for the education on axles and if I'm missing anything please let me know!
  5. Still looking for a set if anyone is selling
  6. Bump and PM sent
  7. Not an exciting update but I ordered new locks today and they were the wrong ones. So I made them fit with a grinding wheel and some patience. After getting them in and making sure they worked I took them back out and had them re=keyed to the ignition. Now I have one key for both doors and ignition and a vehicle that locks. Score. My CROK steering brace came in today and so did my pillar lights. My spider gears for my rear axle showed up too but I'm starting to have doubts about swapping out that mini spool.
  8. Thanks! It was pretty awesome. Shes getting a 1999 Durango Steering box / C Rok brace upgrade - ZJ brake booster / master cylinder - New pads for the front and probably new hardware for the drums. Probably going to throw some hockey pucks into the front springs so I'm not using my inner fenders to stop my uptravel.... lol
  9. Pete thanks as always. I didnt even think about that. I'm so focused on this stupid mini spool and posi lock crap going on I didnt even think of the linkage.
  10. Sure did. It goes into neutral and low with no problem. Just not high for some reason.
  11. So I took my truck out wheeling this weekend and noticed when I put it into 4WH it grinds and spins. Nothing locks out. I'm guessing it has something to do with this pain in the @$$ posi lock front cable and / or the mini spool in the back. Or am I completely wrong and my transfercase is about to blow up?
  12. Sorry guys been a bit since I've updated. What I've done since Swapped out the injectors Fixed vacuum leaks Peeled or scraped off 90% of the stickers Allignment Ball joints Drained all the fluids inclued diff covers Found out I have a mini spool in the back and its not welded but still makes it a pain in the a$$ to drive on the roads ISSUES to address (just informational I know how to use google I promise) lol Wobble at 50ish MPH think its tire shimmy but not positive Blew out my stearing gear box on the trail this weekend (I'll post pics was pretty awesome) Brakes need a big upgrade along with the steering - Going to put in a 96 cherokee brake booster / master c then add some black magic brake pads - Durango gear box is next with C-Rok inner brace since I'm pretty sure the bumper I'm running is bolted to the outside. If not ill get the whole get up. Lastly for now is getting some more down travel on my rear springs some how. I'll do the research and see what I can find out. Finally some pics of my first run with Oahu Heavy Hitters (OHH) brought the wife along too and she loved it. Two wheels kind of scared the wife a bit hahaha Didnt deflate enough since my tires are cracking and it cost me Good recovery team. My wife managed to climb out the passenger side window barely but I was stuck dangling from the driver side. The truck made it thru "Jeep Eater" without any issue but got hung up on the BS trail up to the camp site. She held tight the entire time
  13. Looking for a set of bucket seat brackets shipped to Hawaii 96818. I know shipping is going to be bad but if you're willing to get a quote and ship it I would appreciate it. Please let me know price and condition on the brackets. Thanks
  14. Sorry to be that guy that asks the dumb question but the senders are for your year cherokee? Trying to figure out what to ask for at Checkers.
  15. I pulled the rear off and didnt see anything but I have new spider gears coming in. Hopefully that'll help. I'm guessing its 90% of the problem. Ill put ARBs in it when I get out of Hawaii but until then open diff is fine.
  16. Sure can. You know the little half bubble things they use on the road instead if painted lines? It sounds like a fully automatic assault rifle going off when my rear tires hit them. Both sides. I thought it was the crappy blocks the PO had on the rear springs but I jacked up the back and moved the tires up and down. Good bit of play. I'm thinking my rear DS is too short for the lift and the mini spool driving on pavement broke something in the axle
  17. So I'm getting a pretty good clanking noise that speeds up and slows down with my vehicle. These are the steps I'm going to take but please tell me if I'm missing something. The reason I'm asking such a dumb and easily searched question is that its a new to me comanche that has a mini spool in the rear end. I've never delt with spools. Also there is enough verticle play in the rear tires that its making noises when I drive over small objects. The axle shaft hub has a big ALLOY stamp on it so I'm guessing they're aftermarket shafts. Going to take off the rear driveshaft. Drop it into 4WD and see if the noise goes away. If it does its probably the joints. The 5 speed is from a newer vehicle and had about 90k miles when it was swapped. Pull the rear diff off and rotate the tires see if I can find any damage in the gears. Other than that its the only thing I could find that might be causing the problem. Anyone have advice please chime in. Still new to this.
  18. Great input thanks...
  19. If you find a source before me please post it up. The metal lines are going to be the hardest part since there isn't really any junkyards around here
  20. Thanks both of you. JeepAir pretty much told me they can't help with any info so Ill be piecing it together with the repair manual and the few sites that have info on it.
  21. I'm doing mine with monstaliner. It's not rough/sharp and won't fade for a long time.
  22. So I found a website http://www.jeepair.com/ac/4-0-liter-inline-6-cylinder-139.php with most of the parts needed and was wondering what its missing to install A/C in my truck. I know I need to get the actual controls for inside the cab but other than that I'm clueless. I'm most likely going to have a shop install it once I gathered everything up since they'll warranty it. Any help would be appreciated. I'll keep reading up see if I can find anything. Thanks
  23. I was going to put some dynomat on the floor the cut out some carpet to put over it. I just wanted the rubber for water proofing until I get any holes I havent found sealed up. Hopefully the dynomat will keep the heat out of the cab since I'm running no A/C (another project for some day). The wires for my alternator are getting bumped up to 4 gauge cept for the main ground. It'll be 2 gauge. Its probably the third time I've done the alternator upgrade but this is a first for renix engines. I read thru this http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/zj-136a-alternator-into-4-0-renix-xj-109847/ and seemed pretty strait forward. Already ordered a 96 bracket, ZJ alternator and picked up a new belt just incase. I have the exact regulator too so should be good to go. also forgot to mention how warm that floor will get and it will probably soften that stuff up
  24. Ok got the floorboard done. Didn't wait long enough for the rubber coating to dry so I'm going to have to touch it up later. Seat gave me some issues getting it back in. Changed out the front diff today since the PO left half the bolts undone and the other half were the wrong size. Can't believe I didnt notice it on the way home. 80 w 90 if anyone has any opinions on that please let me know. Ordered a crap load of parts today too. 136a Alternator w/ external regulator and 96 XJ alt bracket Bosch 19lb. fuel injectors CB radio w/ dual 4' antenna set-up (why? because I want it lol) AND PA! Just to annoy my wife Paycheck parts: Bored out TB, THOR cowl intake and whatever mystery parts I need to unscrew whatever the PO did to the rear axle (either welded or spool) JKS quicker disco's
  25. Just cleaned up the interior today. Pulled the seat And started to hit it with some black fabric dye. All the interior is going to be black. Cleaned up the floorboards a little too but the wife decide to make plans for me today.
