  1. I just bought a 91 4 banger and mine is the same way. I just got it about 2 weeks ago and still trying to figure it out, the clutch is stiff and loves to spring back so you have to really have a good clutch leg lol... may be another problem but who knows..
  2. lol okay, I know the floorboard near the pedals is bad, hoping thats the only bad part of it...
  3. well, sounds like I'm all good... kinda scared to see the floor boards, I hope they aren't too bad lol.. i'll post back with an update to tell you whats up.
  4. I agree 100%, not only will pulling the seat let you get at your E brake cable, which has probably rusted in half, but you will also be able to check for dreaded floor board rust. :ack: alright, will do.. is replacing the cable if needed pretty easy?
  5. did that yesterday, nothing moves when you hit the pedal
  6. Alright, quick update.. Went outside today to check if the equalizer is loose. To me it felt relatively loose.. but I made a video for you guys to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7f8cE00Ovg
  7. idk i'll check tomorrow morning
  8. Are you refering to the two cables that enter the back of the equalizer? yea
  9. the cable near the foot pedal is rust free it seems, its a nice looking cable.. as for the cables near the equalizer... they are rusty.
  10. So should I first try to tighten the equalizer locknut?
  11. I just looked, it seems to be connected, but it seems relatively loose. Not sure if just tightening would help or not, could it just need tightening?
  12. Hey guys, when I bought the comanche I knew about the parking brake not working but I didn't think it was that big of an issue.. When pressing down on the parking brake the equalizer doesn't move, not sure if its supposed to or not, but just thought I'd throw that in there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA8Oj7xnotw
  13. so, going to be taking it over to my friends dad place to get it checked out, if worse comes to worse and the piston rings are shot... I am gonna be looking for a rebuild kit, any recommendations on the rebuild kit? Eventually I am gonna rebuild it so might as well get the info now lol.
  14. How do I do that?
  15. wouldnt it smoke though?
  16. Hey guys, just got my comanche a few days ago, and noticed the oil smells like gas and it gets pretty bad mpg for the 2.5l i4 5 speed. I'm talking has to be getting like 12 mpg and that was highway driving. I changed the oil and drove it home from 30 miles away, got home checked the oil and it was fine, just smelled like gas... It also is leaking oil into the air filter. However, it is not smoking and it doesn't seem to be having get up and go issues because it feels good compared to my mom's minivan hahaha. All that being said, can someone give me some ideas of what it might be and how to fix it, be aware I am a newbie and I don't really know much about cars yet, hoping to change that as time goes on. thanks!
  17. So, I went to go look at the comanche today, may I add it was WAY back in the boonies. I'm under the impression that it runs when I get there and after about 20 minutes of talking about the car, we try to start it and it doesn't crank. My friend said it sounds like the relay something, forgot exactly what he said.. but something like that. Also he was replacing the shocks in the back so the tires were off and I couldn't drive it. The body was rust free but was in extremely poor condition from him drilling like 40 holes in the bed and in the side of the truck for some unknown reason. It was also rear ended so the back bumper is gone.. I would really love to give it a go but the guy won't get it running and I don't want to spend money on it when it's not even my truck. I might try to add some pics on here to show you what it looked like. I would give it a go if he'd just get in running for me where I can drive it around. The motor itself is a 4.0 i6 high output with 188k miles on it, the trans fluid was running low on it and it smelled a little burnt. It desperately needed an oil change but it didn't smell like anything really. The radiator had just been replaced because when he rear ended someone he also hit a car infront of him. Also, when going under the truck we saw oil was leaking but we couldn't exactly tell where it was coming from, so, so far it needs a relay something, shocks, tlc, bumpers, 1 blinker. We haven't really found anything else out about it. Might look at it again but don't really know yet. If I don't I might just buy one off someone on here or on ebay. Anyone know how much shipping a car is?
  18. Going tomorrow to look at it, taking a good mechanic friend of mine along, so hopefully it pans out. thanks for all the replies
  19. Thanks, got another call today from an old man that has 3 of them and he is willing to part with them, he told me one might have had rats in it but the odometer reads 78k miles, one is his daily driver with around 188k on it, and the other I have no idea about it. What damage can rats do to an engine exactly besides ruining the wiring?
  20. Hey guys, my first post here.. been kinda lurking the forums trying to learn as much as I can. I've been looking for a jeep comanche in my area for about 2-3 months now and finally came across one, only problem is that it has 233k miles on it. Haven't seen for myself but the man says it has one rust spot on the passenger's side door and that is it, oh btw the motor is a 4.0l I6. I'm gonna probably go look at it sometime soon, anything I should look for to see if it has been well maintained?
