  1. WOW! That is some ingenuity. I hope tape is gonna seal them holes... I'de header wrap the f*C# out of it just to be on the safe side Dave
  2. Hello folks! So i'de thought i would share a little about what brought me to CC, my darling '89 MJ. I've been on many boards from JU to P4x4 to NAXJA. But this is by far the best home of all, and i only have 8 or so posts... Enough about that, onto the MJ. Current Stats: 4.0L Renix Pugeot 5 speed NP231 Dana30/Dana35 Long Box I purchased this MJ on father's day 08 as a gift from the kids. It was $360, has a rod thats just waiting to fail, which sounds like a bowling ball in the dryer. Not sure what the PO did to this vehicle but maintenance was not their cup of tea. The window sticker revealed the last oil change was 5 years previous and 8000 miles ago. While i can't say i've seen darker oil out of a motor, i've never seen one with so much copper! The interior was burried in about 1/2" of snot slime and dog hair, thank god it had a seat cover that had been on there a long time, as it revealed a usable bench. The MJ had previously been stolen, the lock plate, turn signal cancel cam, and ignition cylinder had been destroyed. The ebrake cables were broke / rusted beyond all belief. And it was running on 5 cylinders due to a fouled #1 plug. Needless to say, the MJ is getting a motor i picked up from the pick n pull for $145, its .30 over on the top and .20 on the bottom. Its the cleanest motor i've seen in a JY and this is the 5th or 6th i've sourced. So far I've ordered a 5.5" soa kit from rocky-road, that was back on AUG 25th, we're still waiting for it to ship. I picked up a set of 5 canyon rims for $75. I've put in 1.5" AL spacers behind them sourced from ebay for $126. Plans are for 33x10.50x15 BFG AT's. I have a 10k lbs winch arriving tomorrow, and plans for a new front bumper in my head. I have a aussie for the rear axle and the rear ends will be receiving JY 4.10's. This rig will be used to supplement my company owned transportation, an '07 equinox 2wd. I find myself driving between Coeur d'Alene ID and Missoula MT every other week, which in the winter time is the funest drive of your life. Needless to say with record snow, and 2 major passes to traverse 2wd is not your friend when you're surrounded by people who do not know how to drive. Work's response to my request for something AWD at the minimum was, "you do you're own thing on you're own time". So with a budget in mind, and the wishes of maintaining 20MPG while having a vehicle capable of doing whatever ID/MT can through at it i give you my "FreeTime" MJ: Not much to look at, this is when i purchased her, more pics to come. And yes the goofy box rails and tool box are going the way side. Odd thing about this vehicle, is that it is the 10th vehicle i currently have insurance on, as you can see in the pics those are my DD's in the background. My insurance broker never minded vehicles 1-9 but the comanche was the one that made him ask if i was starting a car lot. More pics to come when i get "FreeTime" from the boss and family to work on her.
  3. Man those taillights are beautiful... Some one find a pair, make em fit and tell us how! Dave
  4. well the trade is happening tomorrow AM. It'll be nice to have another XJ to add to the pile... One day i'll have to get pics of them all. Wonder what this one will become. Dave
  5. If i recall correctly its located under the dash infront of the passenger seat mounted to the heater core cover. It has a little shield over it next to a vacuum line. Older models have a coil looking job, the newer stuff has what appears to be a heat sync. I'de give the wires a good wiggle with the blower set to wherever it doesn't work, mine's given me fits before. Dave Might I suggest replacing the blower motor resistor first? A bad blower motor resistor will only allow the blower motor to work on high speed only. Once you replace it then you can decide if the blower motor itself needs replacing. To replace the blower motor resistor: Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the kick cover from the heater-A/C housing. Pull out the lock on the blower motor resistor wire harness connector to unlock the connector latch. Depress the latch on the blower motor resistor wire harness connector and unplug the connector from the resistor. Remove the two screws that secure the resistor to the heater-A/C housing. Remove the resistor from the heater-A/C housing. Reverse the removal procedures to install. taken from http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1i/bl793i.htm
  6. Dana 44's are rare but not impossible to find. I've found 4 of em from the local pick n pull. I bought one XJ for $75 that didn't have a strait body panel on it and it had a D44 under it... I can usually peddle d44's for 400-500 each around here on craigslist. Dave
  7. No, you should send it to me and i'll inspect it closer.... Thats paydirt there buddy.
  8. Dana 35, if you don't want a spare take the spare holder out :)
  9. Yeah i linked the wrong pics, the smaller ones are linked now... Women don't understand and she has her own lifted XJ....
  10. Howdy Folks! So i have a slight obcession with Jeeps. I own 5 of them, my wife thinks i spend more time looking for jeeps then i do spending "quality" time with her... Any rate, i've been trying to do some horse trading on cl and for the price of a laptop that i don't use anymore ($350) a nice lady wants to trade me this: '90 XJ 4.0 AT 4x4. 226K Needs a column as some monkey destroyed it trying to change the ignition cylinder, i'm sure they didn't have the tool to remove the ring to get the lock plate off. Needs a headliner Needs some bumpers, minor fender rash. Needs a date with a vacuum.
  11. Look for wrinkled paint around the master cylinder and above the fuse box inside the vehicle, i've had 2 jeeps leak in the location and do lovely things to the fuse box. dave
  12. About 5 years ago my buddy with an '88 sitting on 33x12.50's had an issue where it would make a grinding sound when he would put power to the jeep. We decided we'de stick it in 4 high and baby it home (about 5 miles). On the way there we discovered where the grinding was coming from. It was thought he had stripped either the ring or pinion. He was doing about 25mph and started swerving from left to right because he said it was feeling "funny". Right infront of our local tire shop the hub came of the right rear axle shaft. It drifted off the truck with tire and all (taking his bushwacker flare with it) hit a curb flew over the top of a late model Camaro, and left some sweet a$$ BFG MT marks on their side door. Very similar to your incident. We were very fortunate it landed where it did. Dave
