4X4 Conversion Parts List
TheDirtyJeep401 replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thats what Brett was saying was mounted to the Ax5, I'm not saying your wrong, Its just what he told me was attached to it. Think It could be from his other parts in the barn? You might be able to, I'm not quite for sure. -
4X4 Conversion Parts List
TheDirtyJeep401 replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Brett had the ax5 with an np 232 mounted to it. He said that the 231 on it has an electronic speedo sender thats not cable driven. and I would have to get one from an 86-90 231 and it would bolt right in. -
So yes the conversion is coming soon, but I need to make sure that I can get everything for the swap, here is what I know what I need: - D30 Front Axle - Ax5 or Ax4 with 4x4 - Np232 or 231 Transfer case - Shortened Rear drive shaft - Front drive shaft - Tranny cross member - Electronic speedo cable from a Cherokee - Cherokee Clutch Lines don't quite know if I missing anything but that is what I think that I need.

Will the tranny from a 2.8 bolt up to a 2.5? -
My dad is getting an Mj and it is an 87 2.5 4x4 short bed with an ax4, he is wanting to cinvert it to an auto tranny rather than the ax4. Does anyone know what transmissions will bolt up the the 2.5 and still be 4x4?

Rear Drive Shaft
TheDirtyJeep401 replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ah, the one he had was a 98 and the shifter seemed to be closer to the dash then a 96. But anyway, the center you have, is the style I want. -

Rear Drive Shaft
TheDirtyJeep401 replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
XJs didn't have the rubber isolator, so no go with that. You can basically forget any rear XJ shafts. It's been contemplated that certain 2wd XJ shafts may work in 4wd MJ applications, but I haven't seen any comparable measurements. You're going to be better off having yours hacked down than spending time, energy, and money into finding one that'll work. Thats what I was thinking, i was just wondering a guy is parting a cherokee out and he is selling stuff off of it CHEAP in my opinion. Just thought that if it worked id snatch it up. -
Going to get some parts off of a cherokee, does anyone know if a 98 cherokee rear drive shaft will fit a 86 longbed for a 4x4 conversion?

One of my favs is a person put a piece of paper on the steering wheel of there jeep and it said "touch my jeep, and hicks with guns will find you" A funny story that a friend told me was a guy stole a purse from a woman and ran, when the woman looked down she saw that her hand was gripping her handgun. She rapidly pulled the trigger stopping and killing the man. She then faced murder charges. When she went to court the judge asked why she shot all 9 rounds. And she replied because after the ninth round all I got was a click, and the judge released her with no charges. don't know if it was true, but i thought it was pretty funny.

First Jeep I Ever Touch! Kinda Need Help! Lol
TheDirtyJeep401 replied to Sohosh's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I think it looks pretty good, definantly a one-of-a-kind comanche if you do that. And nice truck  Pretty interesting story about how you got it. -
Its not the belt loose, the pump and pulley as a whole is a little offset from the rest of the pulleys. If you want, when i get all the stuff I need for the swap you can help out, your welcome too. I'm going this weekend to get some parts off of a 98 cherokee sport, ill see what i can find off of it. And you have some parts to a 401? don't know what it needs, all i know is that i have we have a good collection of AMC parts and thats what my dad wants in the Javelin Ill try to get those parts soon, right now its either get the parts or get a new tool box (I have three tool boxes full of tools that my dad keeps giving me). And I'm overflowing with tools. And tell me when ever you go picking Ill try to meet up with you sometime maybe, and lend a hand if need be.
