  1. I have a passenger side bucket seat bracket I'll sell for $50 shipped. It's in perfect shape with no rust, and the sliders work perfect. Not going thru the hassel of posting here, but if you'll PM me your e-mail address I'll send you photos. Sold the Comanche and don't need it. I'm out of town today and tomorrow--check back on the PM's Friday nite. Grumpy
  2. Can't measure from door pocket. Have to measure from the inside of the plastic panels behind seat at rear of cab. Door to door and you won't be able to slide seats back. I measured and its about 51" on mine. Measured the bench on mine when it was still in and I think it was right at 50", and that was with mushed foam. GrumpysMJ
  3. Probably could use the stock anchor points. Depends on what type of seats I end up installing. Some buckets and bench with fold down armrests have an inner belt that's attached to the seat. Just have to see what I end up with. Had to take the brackets to a local machine shop to have the sliders cut off. Get rm back Friday and I'll go from there. I will take some pic's as I go along. Kind of making this up as I go along. When I get the mounts back I'll fab a base up with plywood to see if I need spacers between the floor mount and the seat base to clear the trans. tunnel. Than I've got to hunt down a nice set of seats. Thinking of using the bench with the fold down arm rest from a late model Ford Ranger, Chevy/GMC S-10 or Canyon pick-up. GrumpysMJ
  4. I havent measured yet, gotta pull the mis-matched buckets I have in now. But it should clear the tunnel. Remember, I'm using the stock bench floor brackets and the bench seat frame just bolts to the brackets with about an inch for the sliders. As the trans tunnel flows toward the back of the floor it flattens out, so I don't think there would be any clearence issue. If there is, a simple spacer could be used between the floor bracket and plate. As for safty, all you have to do is look at a lot of the custom 40's and 50's trucks where buckets have been installed. They're almost always mounted on platforms or pedastels. If done right I doubt you could even tell it's in there. Nice part about my plan is that it's all nut n bolt aside from getting the sheet cut. Only problem I've run into is seperating the slider mechanism from the base. Seems to be rivited and welded. I did not mean to hi-jack this thread, but felt that this was an alternative to using the different sliders/brackets and old seats. I'm sure someone has done this before and mayby not posted. 5. I started a thread in the DIY section about mounting buckets, or mayby even 60-40 seats. I have an 88 with a shot bench seat, but the mounts are good. Instead of trying to find MJ buckets n mounts or XJ buckets n brackets and fabing them up, and still ending up with 15-25 year old seats, I'm going to build a platform. Goint to use just the seat mounts from the bench. Cut the sliders off just leaving the mounts which will just bolt to the floor. Use 1/8 inch steel plate or mayby 1/4 inch aluminum plate and basically replace the bench seat frame with the plate, using grade 5 or 8 hardware to connect the plate to the mounts. This platform will be the same height and angle as the original, so seating position is no problem. Give it a coat of bedliner paint and cover it with same carpet material as the floor. Now have a platform full width of cab and as deep as needed. Can bolt just about any seat/sliders (with flat mounting tabs) to the platform. Should be just as strong and safe as original seat mounts, with the plus of having modern, comfortable, seats instead of old seats that will probably need recovering or new foam. Local pick n pull sells seats for 40.00 each no matter the make/year/condition. Have a metal fab shop near and know the mgr. Figure I can do the whole project for less than 200.00, ending up with fairly new seats. Feel free to chime in with pro's or con's. GrumpysMJ
  6. Yeah, 3/16 would probably be better strength wise. I'm making this up as I go. Work at Lowe's so I have access to grade 8 and grade 5 hardware, and there's a metal fab. place not to far away for the steel. Owner come's into store a lot so I think I can get a break on the steel. Should be real simple to fab. up, and can bolt the inner seat belts right to the steel. Local pick n pull only charges 40.00 for a bucket seat, new or old. I could pretty much use any bucket that folds forward, and pick a pair from a late model car or suv/truck, in the color and fabric that I want. Just seems that it's difficult to find MJ buckets or XJ 2door buckets, and when you do, your still dealing with 20-25 year old seats. I figure I can do my project for less than 200.00 total which is less than trying to re-foam and recover one old seat. Will take some pic's as I go along with this. GrympysMJ
  7. My 88 had a bench seat that was shot. I bought a set of buckets from another member, but their mis-matched, passenger from an MJ and driver from an XJ. Trying to match one or the other has been not to easy. I was thinking of removing/cutting off the sliders and frame from the bench seat, leaving only the mounting brackets that bolt to the floor. In place of the seat frame, use a piece of sheet steel, minimum 1/8 inch, and bolting it to the floor brackets, basically making a solid platform that would be the same hight, width and angle of the original bench. Paint it with some bed liner paint and cover it with the same type of material as the carpet.. I think with this setup I could mount just about any type of bucket seat with its slider. As Comanche buckets and the 2 door Cherokee buckets are hard to find (in my area), it would be easier to find seats from any smaller suv or pickup. And, they would be a lot newer than 20-25 years old. Just running this by some of you as a lot of you fab up stuff for your MJ's or other Jeeps. Can't see why this wouldn't work or not be safe. Again, I would be using the stock mounts with sheet steel, not wood or angle brackets, for the platform top. If anyone has done this or can see a down side to my little project, please chime in. 10. Over the years I've played with a lot of older cars and have been on many web sites for those vehicles. Many sellers of parts thought they had "gold" and were selling parts at reduclious prices. I've got to say, the people on this site are so fair in their prices that its a pleasure to visit the classified section. Almost everyone sells at fair prices and everyone helps other and newer members try and locate parts. I just scored a pair of tailights from another member, and will take the best of his and mine to make a good set for me. Was planning on keeping the other set as a spare, as they are hard to come by. But the need is there and I'll post the spare set in a few days for exactely what I paid for them. His price was fair to me and its only right to pass them on to someone else. I'll even split em up as I know a member has been looking for a drivers side lens. I figure what goes around, comes around. GrumpysMJ
  11. ratrapp, if the op dosen't want them, I'll take them. Obviously he has first dibs. If he passes, let me know. I'm in the Staunton Va area and can pick them up. GrumpysMJ
  12. Mine polished up fairly good, so I don't need em that badly. Just thought I'd inquire in case I wanted to replace them. And, to restate, the web sites, some of them being Mopar sites, listed them as fitting Comanche's. Just wanted to verify that they would not fit. GrumpysMJ
  13. Got a newbie question. Are the Comanche taillight lenses the same or interchangable with same year Cherokee??? Reason I ask is that several web sites and e-bay list taillight lenses under the Comanche parts heading but the part numbers cross reference to Cherokee taillights. Part # are 4720500 and 4720501. I've found these for $40-$80 each depending on the vendor. From what I've read here on the forums, new Comanche taillights are VERY expensive, so I'm wondering if the web sites are wrong in posting them for Comanche's. GrumpysMJ
  14. Oh, and for info, cable hasen't broken. Its the original and I figured for the few dollars it costs I'd replace it to avoid the horror stories I've read, about broken cables. Also replacing all the hardware, catches n latches. GrumpysMJ
  15. Afternoon everyone. Getting ready to install a new hood release cable. Found it feeds through the firewall just to the left of the fuse panel, two screws mounting it to the firewall. Do I need to remove anything else or just the fuse panel screws to move the panel out of the way. I'm sure some of you have done this many times, so I'm picking your brains/knowledge. Thanks, GrumpysMJ :USAflag:
  16. No problem. If you do get it let the forum members know if it is the right one. GrumpysMJ
  17. Did a bit of diggin on Google. I think the rear weatherstrip gasket for the Comanche is 55007123. Old part # was 55004225. Checked a bunch of web sites for that #, and found one that lists it as still available. Try Auto Parts/Parts.com. They list the part numbers, still available for around 58.00. However, there is no description of the part, or what it is, but it is listed under Jeep Comanche parts. Guess you could call em and verify. Hopes this helps a bit. GrumpysMJ
  18. Check Trail Quest and team Cherokee websites. Both have radiators listed for Comanche and Cheroke, all engines and with or wthout air, and their 2 core. Looks like prices start at around 160.00. GrumpysMJ
  19. Paradise, we're talking the same idea, just different ways of getting there. Buckets from an MJ in good cond. are almost impossible to find, and buckets from the 2 door Cherokee are the same, and when you do they almost always need re foam and re cover (from what I've seen on e-bay and parted out vehicles). Buying a set of seats just to get the inner slider to mount to my bench seat bracket would be more expensive than buying the Rugged seat sliders (about 70.00 a set). With those you could mount just about any bucket, either after market or from a late model small pick-up, Ranger, S-10, Toyo, ect. If the Rugged sliders would bolt to my MJ risers, than those sliders, plus the cost of some newer buckets would probably be cheaper than finding, buying, shipping, and re-foam/re-covering some 20 year old MJ or XJ seats. I'm just looking for alternative's to having to hunt down old seats, GrumpysMJ
  20. Again, being new to Jeeps/MJ , still learning what fits/what dosen't. In trying to adapt Cherokee or aftermarket seats to the MJ with bench seats, from what I've read, problem seems to be getting the inside slider for both sides. This is assuming I can't find a set of MJ bucket sliders. Wondering if aftermarket sliders like Rugged Ridge seat sliders they offer for a CJ/YJ could be used on the MJ seat risers. Couldn't you just remove the outside slider mechanism on the bench and bolt on the Rugged sliders? This would open up an alternative to scrounging for original sliders. Also would allow one to use several different seats. If I'm off base or this has been gone over before, forgive a Newbie. GrumpysMJ :USAflag:
  21. Probably insurance reasons. In eliminates someone getting a boo-boo on their widdle pinkey and than suing the place for some un-godly amount of money GrumpysMJ
  22. If you have an automatic trans, than yes there should be a neutral safty switch. Manual tranny, no there isn't one. GrumpysMJ
  23. Check websites for Trailquest and Team Cherokee. Both carry weatherstripping. Some is Comanche specific, but most is for Cherokee's. Just order door and window weatherstripping for a four door Cherokee as the front doors/windows are the same as the Comanche. E-bay also has weatherstripping, but the two websites prices are about the same, plus they both have people you can talk to if your in doubt as to the proper parts. Just last week ordered and got stripping and window channels from Trailquest. Hope that helps. GrumpysMJ
  24. You gotta know I ment it was warm enough that I didn't need a jacket. Gave the truck a tune up, and replaced the idler pulley. Started to replace the vacume lines. It was 60 yesterday with sun, today it's 32 with snow. No pic's today, Comanche's got 4 inches of snow on it. To you guy's up north that's not alot. But for Va., this time of year, it's to much!!! Going to start searching salvage yards for seats this week. You all with the yards where you can pick your parts are lucky. Around here you can't pull your own, most of the time you can't even go into the yards. Have to tell them what you want/need and if it's there they'll pull it. No hunting & searching allowed. GrumpysMJ
  25. Yeah, I picked up that info here in some old posts, about the 2 door seats and using my bench brackets. Guess I should have clarified. Read through a lot of old posts and info, and picked up those info gem's. Have to take some new pic's for photo bucket entry. Played all day yesterday with the truck in just a shirt. Today it's snowing. Gotta love spring!!! GrumpysMJ
