Okay... the time and funds have come available for me to lift my Comanche and put wheels and tires on. I want to know what my options are... I have done some research and don't know which route to take. I like the motion offroad kits.. they look nice and complete.. bolt on.. etc. but they are pricey.. Are they worth the extra money over other comparable kits? Can I fit a 32 X 11.50 tire comfortably with a 3" lift? If not and I HAVE to run the 4.5". I've been concerned about running a 4.5 lift on short arms. My wrangler is a 4.5 short arm RCII lift and its the crappiest ride Ive ever experienced. Does a 3-4.5" lift require a sye and driveshaft in the comanche? I'm sure I'm missing some questions but feel free to provide any additional information i may have missed in oversight. Also, I would like to see some pictures of the set-up you have. Thanks alot,

how bout those seats? Anyone have dibs? What would you charge me to ship them? If your not interested in taking them out and shipping them... what kind of seats are they? -
Good luck even finding one... I think the guy at autozone misquoted me... but oreilly's nor advance could get one.. They only carried and had any access to the oil pressure switch, which is the one needed if you have dummy lights...

Does that sound like a proper price for a sender unit with a gauge in the cluster? I thought I priced one back a few months ago for around 15-20 bucks.

/Wheel hop? (Figured it out 9/1)

well after a little more diagnosis, I finally looked into the vacuum shift motor on the front axle. It seems that it gave up the ghost and filled itself with gear oil.... which in turn would not allow the truck to unlock the front axle. I almost pee'd myself to find that a new one goes for 149.99 at the parts store.... So I went ahead and built a posi-lock for the time being -

okay... both wheels off the ground... t-case in 2wd... the front drive shaft will not turn.. So, this goes on... If it is stuck in 4wd... does that basically mean that my t-case is fragged? -

I did a little diagnosis with the help of Pete through PM and this is how it went: So, I adjusted the linkage, it was fine and replaced the t-case fluid. It was just slightly under the mark, but dirty. I took it out for a road test and sure enough it stillllllll does its little chirping and bucking around tight turn arounds. I went on to shift the t-case in 4-low... 4-low I got. I shift the t-case into neutral and let the clutch out while it was in gear.... neutral I got. So, that tells me that it is engaging and disengaging but I'm at a loss as to why this problem still exists... I just can't track it down... -

well... an alignment is cheap enough... and the front drive tire does look a little off camber. so Ill have that done. and this weekend ill pull the diff cover and have a peek to see what it's got... I wouldn't be surprised... the guy i bought it from seemed to like "rigging stuff together" thanks... ill get back with more info when I get it.. -

well i checked out the ball joints again... they're all good and tight... rubber boots could be better but functionally, they are "ok". I check the u-joints... no slop whatsoever. even turned the wheels lock to lock and nothing notable. the only thing i noticed out of whack was the steering stop bolt... the one on the drivers side is bent and kinda pushed up... the other side is fine.... any other idears? -

oh, the comanche in question is bone stock -
I'm having a problem when I make hard turns... Speed is not a factor. For example, I could be turning around in a culdesac and while I'm going through the turn my front wheels seems to be binding/hopping almost like it's in 4-wheel drive on dry pavement. The track bar was sloppy, I replaced it. The ball joints seem to be good. What would cause this problem? Any help is much appreciated. :headpop:

yea... they're pricey... but sweet... the cheapest I have found them is 640 shipped for the set...
-
2 door XJ seats will work... finding a nice set is the problem... I have only found 1 set out of about 30 junkyards... They ones i did find were annihilated...
-
I would be interested... but them I'm stuck without a driver seat... and I would have to find a match to it... it would be impossible to do that locally for me... If I was to have something shipped it would have to be a complete set... I really appreciate the offer...

After searching online for well over a month and looking through several junkyards. I have lost hope on finding a set of 2 door buckets for my Comanche. The only set I've found were so #*%$ty that the only way to salvage them would be to have them re-covered at the tune of $500.00 plus the junkyard wanted $100.00 for the set to begin with. Anyways, I'm looking down the aftermarket route now. I figure if I'm going to have to fabricate bracket to get some other seats to work or spend $600.00 bucks to get a good looking set of stock seats. I might as well get something nice.. Here's what I'm looking at, I think they resemble the stock seats alot anyway.
-
Id love to do that... If I ever actually saw one in a Junkyard...
-
They just don't fit the truck... makes it look a little ricey really..
-
I remember someone saying "at this pace, she'll have over 7500 votes before its over"... We've now broken that.. Finish strong!
-
well that would cause to to have to buy 2 sets of tires... I think it would look kinda stupid to drive around with stock tires on 4.5" of lift...
-
well... mostly daily driving... alot of mall crawling and the occasional wheeling trip.. I don't really want to re-gear and that's what makes the difference to me.
-
So, I'm trying to put together a wheel and tire package for the Comanche. So I have two questions 1. If you were starting from scratch, what would be the best wheel and tire combination for a Comanche with 4.5" of lift? (take backspacing into consideration) 2. If you had a set of stock Moab's from a rubicon laying around could you get away with running a 285/75/16 (33.1x11.3) without running into issues with backspacing? I just want to avoid going the wrong route and making the purchase twice.

how is this still such a close race? What happened to the treaty they had?
-
pretty cool... i got stuck on mission to mars
-
Had it been wrecked? Looks pretty good.. and with a little prep you could get that paint done pretty cheap at Maaco if your not looking for a show truck

The quality is OK at best. I've seen one other MJ with a ACC carpet, and it had the same problem as mine...both were loose around the passenger's side of the transmission tunnel. If anything i thought i would have a problem with it being tight because i put down sound deadening before the carpet went in. agreed on the loosness of the carpet around the hump area, BUT, your original carpet kit has jute padding over the hump, where the ACC kit does not. You can get mass backing as an option from ACC for an extra $60 bucks, which i didnt think was worth it. However, it did go buy some jute padding from the upholstery shop and as you can see in the pictures, the carpet fits nice and snug. it's just a knob I've had laying around the garage which is only a little better than the crappy simulated carbon fiber one seen in the before pictures. I would like to have a stock knob, but, I have yet to find a jeep in the junkyard with a manual tranny. Got a nice one laying around you wanna get rid of?
