dana 30 disco vac housing
f1tbiker6 replied to f1tbiker6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
is there a how to on doing this? how does it not lock the wheels? -
found a good deal on a dana 30 buts its a disconnect one. i was aiming at getting a non disco, but the guy told me there is a way to shim the housing so that its always engaged. but wouldnt that be bad for when your driving on the streets and turning? i found a trans and tcase, so the axle and drive shafter are all i need to get now. AND this dana 30 has an aussie locker in it.

The original 4.0L was used from '87 - '90. It used Renix (Renault/Bendix) fuel injection, a closed cooling system, and was rated for 177 HP - if I remember right. The HO 4.0L arrived in '91. It used Chrysler fuel injection, a open cooling system, and was rated for something like 190 HP. This is of course a simplified comparison. There were many other differences between the two - intake, exhaust, etc. Willy will a trans and tcase off a HO cherokee wokr on my 4.0l? or are there issues I'm unaware of?
-
ALSO, what is the difference between a 4.0l and a 4.0HO cherokee? will the HO not work for a swap?

"New Process NP231 Command Trac: 2-speed, chain drive, part-time 4WD. 2.72:1 low-range. 87-01 2.5l 4cyl and 4.0l I-6 models with manual or automatic transmission. 87-89 21-spline input, 90-01 23-spline input. The older models used a vacuum switch to activate the dash indicator lamp and engage the front axle disconnect. Newer (non-disconnect axle) versions used an electrical switch to activate the dash lamp. The shift indicator pattern is 2WD > 4WD high range part-time > Neutral > 4WD low range part-time. New Process NP242 Select Trac: 2-speed, chain-driven, part or full-time 4WD. 2.72:1 low-range. 87-01 models with 4.0l I-6/AW4 automatic transmission only. 87-89 21-spline input, 90-01 23-spline input. The shift indicator pattern is 2WD > 4 high range part-time > 4 high range full-time > Neutral > 4 low range part-time. " from what this says ive gathered that if i want to run the non disco dana 30 i have to run a NP242 and that limits me to only an aw4 auto trnas?

so only cherokee's after 1995 have the non-dosconnet axels?
-
which is prefered of the dana 30 front axle's? disconnect 30 Non-Disconnect, RS Non-disconnect, “Low Pinion” 30 and which t case is needed to run it?

k&n air filtration system
f1tbiker6 replied to f1tbiker6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I actually installed an airbox off of a 2000 XJ, so judging by that it should be fine. I think it's just the clips that are different, as the bottom section of those boxes on 87-90 are different than 91+, XJ or MJ. At least in my experience. what if i have a renix motor? will the one of quadratec work? -

my dad and i have decided we are gonna take my stock crap as there is splits and crack in the tubing everywhere. but ive been looking around and k&n doesnt make a system specific for my 1989 comanche. Is there one that will work made my k&n or is there another brand that will substitute?

well its not entirely finished but i figured id update. got everything but one panel sprayed, and thats because my freind is welding a piece of metal in the hole. the passengers side is completely finished with two coats of paint. the hood, roof and drivers side need a second coat. as you can see darker and lighter spots. had to wrap it up for now as I'm getting paid to transport some furniture today  its not perfect, but it'll do for now.

i found these and I'm hoping they work with comanches. it also doesnt list the lengths that these are adjustable through, does anyone know them by any chance upper: http://www.jeeperz-creeperz.com/tjxj-fr ... -4534.html lower: http://www.jeeperz-creeperz.com/tjxj-ad ... -4530.html

you heard correctly. i plan to swap in an dana 44 when i do the 4wd swap. and even so i only have 33's, not 35's.
-
33 inch tires with about 5" lift. still have a dana35 and its still only 2wd so i don't to heavy offroading yet. ill be doing the 4wd swap soon.

ive figured out a temporary solution for the tailgate lever, i just took out the whole handle and used a rubber band to hold the two metal pulling things from falling down into the tailgate, and you just pull them with your hands to lower the tailgate. as for paint i think ive decided on rustoleum semi-gloss black. here's a shot of just my tailgate as the store didnt have enough paint for the whole truck and i wanted to just test one spot for the time being.
-
i think I'm liking the idea of an 8.8 and a d44. would some one explain the long arm kits? isn't it just longer control arms? if i have the money i want to get some 35" tires, but thats last on my list, as my 33's are brand new.
