Ive been working on the MJ for almost a year now, the last time I filled it up was March 08. Today I drove it and let it run for a while and when I stab the gas it sputters and almost sounds like its choking itself, but if I ease into the gas it runs fine . I added some stabil and octane boost about 3 or 4 months ago, but I'm not sure if it helped. You guys think its old/bad gas making it choke?

Thanks for all the compliments. 8) And I sold the roll bar a long time ago. I think a week after i got it home. So the comment about the decals actually got me thinking. I have the "new" style silver comanche decals, and silver tailgate decal. Should I put them on or leave them off?? I kinda like the blacked out look. New pics form today, got the fender flares on:

Diamond Auto Paint on South Cobb. And i kinda take back my previous statement. They didnt do that good of a job. I have found some runs, a mosquito in the paint, and some places that needed sanded really bad. But for the price it was ok. Its not a lexus, its a 1986 Jeep, I'm already over it.. And ya about craigslist, I lost interest to be honest and ran out of jeep funds, the problem was i don't have a garage, but my parents have a killer garage set up in acworth, but I hate driving up there to work on it. But i got over it and made the drive every few saturdays  . And donor XJ is long gone, but I still have lots of parts from it. I stripped it and have a lot of the parts in the attic. I have the complete dash, HVAC, wiring harnesses. For future projects on the MJ, but I have sold some of it because i was broke. Tonight I dragged the MJ to the garage and put all the front end parts on, door panels, taillights, plastic pieces. It looks like a truck again. No pics because it was dark.. Pics tomorrow, get the popcorn ready.

This is not a pic of my XJ, but i have the same exact set up in my 97. -
They really did a stand up job. From the prior condition of the doors and the bed they did great. They did every thing I asked, so no complaints. can't beat the price either, like i said before i went a step up from their $199 job, which i'm sure would have been fine as well. Their body work is expensive, but i didnt have any done, so i didnt care. You should drop by the garage in Acworth when your not busy. I might be there Saturday afternoon.

I got that 4 switch panel in my DD XJ. I also got the factory high idle switch. Its sweet. -
Been a while since I updated.. :fool: Got a Diamond Plate tool box from Home Depot, a new CD player installed, re-wired the entire speaker system since the PO rigged a tape teck and destroyed the wiring. Got some new door speakers and made sure the rear cab speakers worked. Got a new alternator, battery cables, and alternator wiring. After I finished that I dropped it off for paint and tint. And here the result: Pictures suck I know, all i had was my phone on me. More updates and pictures when i piece it back together this weekend. I picked it up from paint at 6:00 and took the first pic, then got the windows tinted and took a pick a few hours ago in the dark. 20% tint all the way around. Its dark, i like it.

86 2.5L Exhaust "Heat Pipe"
smartazz19 replied to smartazz19's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I figured that. The MJ is getting a little makeover right now at Diamond Auto Paint 8) and i didnt have the it to measure the dimensions. No worries, ill just get it when it gets back. -
Is this a universal part or a year, make, and model, part? I'm talking about the flexible pipe that goes from the manifold to the air intake box. Any dimensions or part numbers would be great, thanks..

I got your PM, but i figured somebody else would ask so.. This is how i built mine. I built them with some 4x4" 1/4" angle iron, 1/4" cold rolled steel for the tabs, 1 3/4" DOM for the links, threaded rod for adjustment and "flex", and poly bushings for the mounts. Its really not complicated. Just a lot of measuring.. I built the set up on my old XJ pictured below..

You know this isnt a lift kit right? This is just the long arms and frame mounts. No coils or leafs or anything else. And for $750 no, it is not a good deal. That same set up can be built for MUCH less.

how do i get the door locks out to replace
smartazz19 replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It takes about an hour and 15 minutes. An hour on the first one and 15 minutes on the second one. At least that's how it went when I did mine with my stubby little fingers LOL. :D I concur. 1 hour and 15 mins :chillin: Replaced mine last week. I got some doors with no keys and bought the locks w/keys from Auto Zone for $11 bucks. -
Battery Relay/Solenoid??
smartazz19 replied to smartazz19's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Smart man. It was indeed the fusible link. I actually fixed it this afternoon before checking on here. It did not burn, it was just very badly corroded and i could feel the wire was disconnect inside the plastic. Based on that I decided that it was time to replace all my cables. I replaced both my battery cables and the alternator wires. I think it was $20 well spent. I also added a ground wire from the battery to the sheetmetal. Now I'm charging at 14 volts and have brighter headlights I installed a cheapo sunpro volt meter from autozone a few weeks ago when I thought something was wrong, sure enough it was the same crappy voltage as it was reading on the dash.. :ack: It doesnt have anything to do with charging, i guess jeep decided to use this starter relay as a junction block. 2 wires from battery on my 86: Battery---> main stud on starter relay ---> alternator (i used 10ga wire with a new fusible link) Battery ---> starter (4ga big cable) -
Battery Relay/Solenoid??
smartazz19 replied to smartazz19's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow, just found it on rock auto. It says its a starter relay. If this relay is bad, this wouldnt cause my jeep not to charge would it? It starts fine.. -
What is this mystery solenoid? Its mounted on the passenger side inner fender of my 86 MJ. It is obviously some kind of solenoid switch, but its a rectangle shape, not like the typical round starter solenoids. I am having charging issues and wanted to replace it since its attached directly to the alternator. It also has about 6-8 more wires coming off it it. What is it actually called, and does anybody have a link to a replacement part?
