Must be a GA thing, black has been fine for me.. Not hard to keep clean. Maybe I don't notice, or don't care, but i have no complaints keeping my black XJ clean. I hardly ever wash it and it 9 times out of 10 looks like it does in that pic.. So far I'm leaning towards black. I like simple things, don't want it to be "flashy"

It looks killer. I like the rounded look, not square like the stock comanche. My problem was i couldnt find a decent comanche bumper. Everyone at PAP everything was rusted/bent/dented, so i found an S-10 one on CL and thought it looked good, plus i got it for free ;) Got Comanche brackets on my frame, took the s-10 brackets, swapped brackets right to left, cut off the "extra" metal, and welded them together. Looks good, and bolts on like any other bumper. I'll snap some pics this weekend. keep the paint ideas comin.. pictures help also! everyone likes pictures.. edit: here's where i got the idea, i have the same bumper installed.

So, its time to paint the clown mobile. Any ideas on a paint color? I'm got a grey/black interior, 97+ front end, 97+ mirrors, chrome grille to go on, and an S10 rear bumper. Just want it to look good... I was debating over black and white, but if I paint it white, it would almost match the 97+ MJ on cardomain "the dove" And if i paint it black it would match my XJ, but that would be kinda cool.. Any tips, I'm open to anything? MJ in question is below.. Thanks!

The parents' new house...(my free vacation destination :-)
smartazz19 replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
Georgia rules. Ive been here for almost 20 years and love it. I'm in the Marietta/Kennesaw/Acworth area on the NW side. I'm actually looking for a new house also. But on this side of town. My parents have 2 acres over here with a huge 2-car seperate garage. I'm hoping they will move to a smaller place and let me buy their land. Not to familiar with Loganville, but stay outside the city of ATL and your fine. I only wander in there for Braves games and concerts, then I'm out. -
Why can't XJ shocks work in the rear? :huh???: I just put a set of 3" XJ shock front and rear of my comanche. Works just fine. They were a perfect fit for my 3" AALs. XJs have bar pins in the top mounting, just don't put the bar pin in the shock.

Swaping in a newer gauge set 97+ ?????
smartazz19 replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You are thinking in the wrong direction. Its not going to work, the electronics are on a completely different scale. The 97+ gauges are completely computer contolled 100%. The computer tells the whole cluster what to do. Without a computer input they will read "NO BUS" and won't do anything. Your older model senors will not have the right signal to run these guages. If you get new sensors from a 97, they won't work either because they are designed to relay to the computer what is going on. I ripped apart my 98 XJ when it was a cut up trail rig and was installing autometers. I learned a lot from it.. Best bet is to rn aftermarket gauges like in the picture above. Or swap complete wiring harnesses/sensors. EDIT: and ditto what JeepcoMJ said.... -

Swaping in a newer gauge set 97+ ?????

97+ XJs are on a BUS system controlled by the computer. Mating the two wiring harnesses together will be almost nearly impossible. -
Just a FYI for Atlanta folks.. Good deal on an JK bumper.. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pts/681100278.html

What seats fit in the MJ?
smartazz19 replied to Diehard Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Worked for my on saturday. I tried retro-fitting the 97 XJ buckets onto the MJ bench seat brackets but it was not happening without a ton of work. The newer XJ brackets are way too wide. So i just put the seat in the MJ as is with XJ brackets on it, and drilled new holes. Pretty easy. -

What seats fit in the MJ?
smartazz19 replied to Diehard Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just put 97 XJ buckets and center console in my 86 MJ. I left the 97 brackets on and just drilled new holes in the floor and got some huge grade 8 bolts.. 1 bolt hole lined up, had to drill 3 on each side. Works for me. And they are 2-door buckets, so they tilt forward, which is sweet. -
91 comanche adding 92 xj cluster
smartazz19 replied to exjay33's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Can you elaborate on this? Any write-ups on adjusting the tach? I just did this to my 4-cylinder, but a cluster from a 4-cyl was impossible to find, so i settled for a 6-cyl, but obviously the tach is off. thx.. -
No write up needed. Its all bolt on. Simply unbolt your fenders and bolt the new fenders/header panel on. Only semi diffucult thing is splicing in the new turn signal sockets. Which if you are taking fenders off, you probably know how to crimp wires.

It was pretty dang easy, i did have to "trim" the core support for the 97+ header panel to fit in. Just a few passes with the die grinder and it was fine, there is no way you can see the modifications unless you take the header panel off. I will be there tomorrow working on it and ill take some more pics, maybe some out of the garage.. It lines up perfectly with the door. Only issue is the passenger side where is meets the windshield trim/a-piller is kinda off. But the 97 XJ I got was hit on the passenger side front, and I'm 99% sure the back side of the fender is tweaked. I just have to be patient for paint. The clown colors are kinda cool for now, but not really.

Just for a FYI for mine i picked up a non running 2-door XJ. Well it ran, but missed and had low compression. Got it dirt cheap. So i used it for parts and sold what i didnt need to re-coupe the costs. In the end, i broke even and had 97+ buckets, console, and all the front end parts. Just a thought. Try to find a blown up 97+ XJ and use it for parts.

need pics of long arm brackets
smartazz19 replied to 88stroker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure if this is what you want but here's the brackets and long arms I made for my XJ. Was a radius arm set up with 2 lowers and uppers off the lowers. -
ebay.. pretty good deals on there from aftermarket vendors. Just watch cause cheap parts are cheap parts. I hear the ebay header panels and fenders fit like crap. I used OEM parts and it fit great. The grilles and lights are cheap and plenty available on ebay, can't really go wrong wih quailty on those.

High speed DW is usually tire related. Have you had your tires balanced recently? Even if they are balanced a set of bad tires can still wobble at 75. That was happening on my 97, it had DW at 65-70. Balanced/Rotated tires and it went away..
