I know what your going through. My mother has 8 bad disk in her back that keeps her down. The problem is her doc has that theory that there is no money in a cure and... well i have no use for her doc. My step dad just had surgery to remove almost 2 foot of his colon so he is pretty much out of work as well. I do all i can to take care of both of them right now. My job, well lets say it left the country and went to Honduras. Now i'm killing my back with the work i do. It's all heavy lifting and hard work but it pays the bills and keeps everyones prescriptions filled. I enjoy the work but i hate those days that you feel the rain coming and can't hardly move. I have a feeling i have some of the same problems in my back since i can't even bend all the way over without feeling the need to scream some days but i don't go to the doc..the less i know the less it hurts physiologically. Just hang in there. You gotta keep going and fighting your hardest. Don't do like my mom did and let it take your life away from you man. Don't let it get what counts !

I'm pretty sure down here it is shoot first ask questions later. If they are a threat shoot em. Ether way it goes when it comes to protecting my family or myself two phrases come into mind... "I'd rather be tried by twelve then carried by six" and 'it's easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission"

To bad your not closer to me. If you were going to scrap it i would see about buying it from you or trading you a full size truck that would make you more money at the scrap yard...

This sounds like a whole lot of work here. Just go to the DMV and tell them your friend messed up the title and you need the form to get it fixed. Your gonna have some paper work to fill out and probably a few weeks of waiting on the state to get up and stick it back in the mail box. It's not really a big deal it's just alot of time to get something fairly simple done. It's a pain in the a$$ but it can be done. I have had to do it several times and each time its the same thing. Go show the DMV your title and they give you a form to fill out and have your friend sign (if he won't go to the DMV with you tell them he is disabled and can't take the ride, it works for me) and then get his name on it. Bring the form back to the DMV. They do a 15 dollar title search and if there are no liens or loans against it you now have your new title.
-
I don't know if this will help you or not. But here in Alabama its pretty simple. I run into this alot in my line of work. What i do is just hold onto the title so i have the numbers the last title holder has on the title and file for a lost title. It cost me 15 bucks each time. I get the new title and go look up the last owner. Normally they sign it for me with no problem and the deal is done. No problems. Just trash the old title when you get the new one signed and then get it registered in your name or whoever you want it in.

well i got the timing problem fixed and along with it fixed a few other problems i hadn't got to yet. I didnt have to go grinding or cutting on anything but the old cap. i cut me a window in it just to make sure i was in the right place and i wasn't. AFTER me messing around with it, it was a tooth out for sure so i put it back. now its running fine timing wise. The shake has all but gone away too. the timing issue was the main problem i guess. it still has a little vibration to it but its not the violent shake i had to start with. I am almost certain this time the vibration is from the tires. I put them on and balanced them myself on an old bubble/level machine so I'm almost sure they are out of balance a little. A simple trip the the tire store should fix that though so I'm back on the road again.. Tomorrow the jeeps gonna drag an old hay bailer out of a bunch of briers and weeds and take it to the scrap yard so i may be back later with a new problem lol Naw she'll hold it... i already put half of an old dozer behind it :D

thanks again Eagle and chicofuentes0224. i'm about to go get started on it and see what i can get done. Maybe it will go smooth.
-
Thanks for that info Eagle. I will go cutting on my old cap tomorrow if i get time and check it. I was thinking about grinding the little ears that hold the distributor in place off of it before i read this but i was going to check the price of a new distributor first just in case. I know how my luck normally is lol. Thanks for the efforts on the alldata thing but i don't have a membership there so i can't see it. if someone could be so kind and copy and paste the importaint parts or email it to me it would be very helpful

actually when i got to looking at it, it seemed to be 180* out. I don't think it was exactly that much out but it was out. Apparently just enough for it to run but not run well. Its had a rough idle since i got it. thats why i tuned it up and figured out the vacuum line problem. Anyways the timing was off and i did it the way i have always done chevys and pulled it up on TDC and reset the distributor. This is the first time i have messed with anything that wasn't adjustable so i probably should have left it alone. Now i have a problem i can't seem to fix. Maybe its a tooth off now or something but its been the kind of day that i needed to walk away from it  now I'm back here begging help again lol.
-
its got brand new plugs wires and a new cap and button. compleat new tune up. the cables for the battery and starting system have been replaced. i did that when i had the NNS penny jammed in the shifter problem...long story lol. basically i can't figure out why this thing won't time up and run right. i really dditn believe the timing was the cause of the shake but i went and started messing around with it anyways. Bad idea i guess lol. This thing is turning into one big headache. I got it for cheap so i can't complain about the problems i just don't need to be stuck with something this unreliable nor do i need another parts hungry vehicle. I'm having a bad day and I'm a little mad at it at the moment so scrapping it came out of my mouth lol. if i did scrap it would be on here where someone got use out of it. but I'm not ready for that yet. i am however thinking that i may just keep the body and make a chevy powered jeep. it would be fun with a 327 in it. i am waiting to see if i can get this timing problem and a few other things fixed first though. If its simple i'll leave it alone. if its going to end up having a major problem i will put me a chevy v-8 in it.

I finally made it to the transmission shop. Had it up on the rack and let the pro's look it over. They had it there looking at it for about an hour and then ran out about a quarter tank of MY gas lol. The good news is they couldn't find anything at all wrong with the transmission and i got free fluid out of the deal. The bad news is they found my leaky rear main seal. The guy that does the mechanic work there took a look at it as well and he found an ignition timing problem. He said it was just a hair out of time and suggested maybe a tooth off on the distributor. I heard that the timing wasn't adjustable so i didnt believe him till i got it home and re-checked for myself. It was off and how it was running has me clueless. I put it all back in time as i have always done it by finding TDC on the compression stroke and then pointing the rotor button to the #1 cylinder. That didnt work and neither did the way the haynes book said to do it. I have it where the book said to put it and it idles smooth and sounds great. much better than it did to start with. But now when i give it a little gas it misses out and runs like crap. Anyone have any ideas ? thanks again. About one more problem and I'm going to pile the Geo in the bed of the truck and junk them both lol...

not a bad idea. ill check the bolts tomorrow. i need to find a oil leak in the general area any ways.

man the tracker is a tough little off road car. It will go about anywhere as long as its not deep mud. But honestly if i had kids i wouldn't put them in a tracker. If you was to get hit by a bicycle it would be a total loss...and the biker would ride away unhurt. and another reason is kids tend to break things and its very costly to fix lol trust me i have broke alot on it :D
-
hmmm i have 3 turbo 350 and a 400 here... will they fit easily ? what else will fit in there ? and what motors will fit the original trans ?
-
yeah i have an 1989 Geo Tracker that did that to me a few years ago. That thing is a HUGE headache lol. But the jeep has a new tune up on it. I replaced all that shortly after i bought it. It runs pretty decent but it has a rough idle. i havent got around to looking into that little problem yet though lol if i could get the rest of the major problems to go away id get to that one lol.

i checked the front end parts all of them seemed to be new-ish. I didnt replace them but they are still nice and clean and have fresh grease around them and it looked clean when i put the grease gun to it as well. Everything is nice and tight and doesnt have any slop. The U-joints could use replaceing just for the sake of knowing they are new but they seem to be in good shape. The radiator i bought had the filler neck and its the brass sided one rather than the plastic sides that love to crack. I did have the option of buying the one without the neck but it was 2 row and had the plastic ends. it was $97.00 i think but don't quote me on it cause I'm not 100% sure.
-
Its cheaper than any other one i have bought. I was expecting to get to the parts store and lay out a couple hundred for it if not more. The last one i bought was for a 1976 firebird with a 454 in it and it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $400. The firebirds was about twice the size of a Comanche though lol

Ok thanks guys. I have determined that it isnt death wobble the only reason i even said it to begin with is simply because the phrase "its DEATH WOBBLE !!!! junk it !! came from my step dads mouth. Having heard that little bit info i thought i might save some time by saying i don't think its death wobble. After all i never seen my life flash before my eyes however i remember a phrase something like WTF!?!?! now comming from my mouth. Today i worked on it a little bit. It's been tuned up and has been for a bit. I put a different set of tires on it today and that didnt help. I balanced them on an old water bubble type balance machine so later ill get it done right but they are pretty close. I checked air pressure and all that good stuff. I finally took it to a transmission shop to have them look it over and drive it but that plan failed miserably and ended with the jeep on the side of the road with the bottom blown out of the radiator. If anyone needs to know a good 3 row copper radiator goes for $109.00 @ a local parts house.... Today was just not my day......

Ok i have a new problem i can't seem to figure out. When i get out on open road and the transmission runs through the gears (4 speed auto) the truck starts to violently shake when it goes into 3rd or drive and it continues through overdrive as well. Basically any speed over 45 MPH. It seems to only do this after it shifts into drive (marked 3rd on the shifter). I can't figure out why it would do that. At first i thought maybe i left the power button pressed rather than putting it back in the comfort position but it was set as it should be. This thing is shaking hard enough that you would think something was about to fly apart. As far as i know its not death wobble either. It feels more like the transmission. i changed the trans fluid and filter and it didnt help. I didn't see anything unplugged either but i may be missing something. The U-joints were fine and i didnt feel any slack in the rear end. Could it be a vacuum leak ? or something simple like that. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm also looking for a good diagram for the vacuum hoses if anyone knows where to find them besides the hanes manual or the chiltons book. Its a 4.0L auto 2 wheel drive. Eliminator edition if that helps any. Still not sure which trans i think someone said AX-5 or something to that effect.

I have junked about 7-8 Intrepids in the last 6 months. All of them had the same v-6 and the same problem with the cams/timing belt. I have heard it costs somewhere between $700-$1500 to replace the belts alone. I don't know how true it is though. I do know i can't sell parts off of them, people just refuse to even try to work on them around here. I have got where when i buy one the converter and radiators come out and it goes straight to the scrap yard.
-
If you just want a way to get them out for now try moth balls. I buy and sell cars and parts and all that good stuff and from time to time we get a junker in that has a family of mice. Granted our cars and trucks just sit and are never drove again so i don't know about getting the smell out but the moth balls always seem to do the trick. We just throw a handful in the floor on each side. I guess moth ball smell would beat dead mouse smell if it came down to it but nether one is nice to think about though lol.

Thanks hornbrod. I am in Ft.Payne. Its a few hours drive to Huntsville. I have to go over there next week so i may just stop in and have a look at some of their stuff. I'll have a car hauler with me anyways so it would be nice to make one trip and bring one home. Thanks again for the info.

He seems to reply to you. See if you can get him to stick it in a box and quote me a reasonable price :D
