  1. Hey thanks for the fast response and the great info!! I saw the RE kit on Quadratec for 370 .... I suppose its possible that they haven't updated the site with the new price .... I'll look into that. Are there any pics out there of MJs with the Motion Off-Road 3" kit? No offense to Motion Off-Road, but I'd like to hear other people's opinions as well ;)
  2. ***EDIT - Spreadsheet updated to reflect price changes and what not based on Motion Off-roads post*** I'm ready to purchase my lift. Its an 87 4x4 LWB. I plan to run 31s. Its not a DD, but its not really a trail rig either. Mostly I'll use it to pick up stuff at the store, go fishing/camping, and look AWESOME sitting in the driveway I suppose there is the possibility that I might get into some more serious off-roading .... Rausch Creek isn't much more than an hour from my house. So, I want a lift that will clear the 31s, ride relatively comfortably, and not completely hamstring me if I decide to do some beginner wheeling. Oh, and money doesn't grow on trees around here, so price matters. I don't really know the benefits of adjustable LCAs, new tracbar, or quick discos ..... honestly, I don't even know what all those things really do  Here is what I came up with so far. What do you guys think? I could really use some input from you seasoned MJers!
  3. Jaekl - I didn't really understand what part you needed, but I looked anyway. I didn't see one. Here are some pics of my trip to the J/Y. For $30 I got a bedliner, two nice sideview mirrors, and two XJ prop. valves. Three MJs and about twenty XJs. Lots of fun here. There is a nice bedliner in there somewhere. Pretty good condition, I think. [/b]
  4. I'm going to Shorty & Dave's U-Pull It outside of Philly tomorrow morning. I was there last Saturday and they have three MJs. I didn't look too close, but they are pretty beat and very picked over. But you never know. They also have a whole row of XJs with lots of good parts. If there is anything relatively small (so I can ship it to you ) and fairly easy to pull, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
  5. I don't think so. I found mine on Craigslist. It was in Downingtown.
  6. So I'm still trying to figure out the options here. I made the following three diagrams. Do I have them set up right? Did I name things properly? I need some input here  Options 1: Stock set-up. Front and rear MJ valves. Options 2: Remove rear prop. valve and plug front valve. Lock-up issues and no by-pass in case of front failure. Option 3: Remove rear valve and replace front MJ valve with an XJ valve. Reduces lock-up issues but still no by-pass in case of front failure.
  7. Since the only time I've driven my MJ is across town after I bought it, I don't know if people stare. But I know that I sure stare when I see an MJ ... I very very rarely see one on the roads. Occasionally I see one in a parking lot, but thats about it. XJs on the other hand ..... its like every third car is an XJ.
  8. Sorry to revive an ancient topic, but I have a question about this picture: With the bottom rear output port plugged, then is there just one single hard line running all the way to the rear soft line? With this set-up, would there still be rear breaks if the fronts go out? Separately, in this picture, can someone identify where the two lines coming from the front originate ... and what is the reason for the two lines? How is this set-up different/same from the first picture? And lastly, what is the benefit of using and XJ valve upfront in place of the MJ one. I realize that the front valve has no ability to detect load and adjust braking allocation, so whats the point? I might be a bit confused on this, so feel free to set me straight.
  9. One of you on here recently installed the RE 3.5" Super Ride stuff up front and put 3" Hell Creek leafs in the back. It looked pretty good, but I'm scared of the rear being lower than the front. I'm pretty set on getting the RE 3.5 stuff for the front. But I can't decide if I should get the 3" packs or the 4.5". I DO NOT want the front to be higher than the rear. But I also don't really want to be adding front spacers to match a rear lift that could be close to 5". I don't want a lift any bigger than 4" ..... 3.5" would be perfect. Here are some questions I was wondering about: What amount of actual lift can I expect from the RE 3.5" front stuff? What amount of actual lift can I expect from the 3" packs, and the 4.5" packs? Can Hell Creek "tweak" the 3" packs to give just a bit more lift? Thanks for the advice. I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket, but I don't want to rush into it and get a lift I'm not happy with.
  10. Looks fantastic .... nice clean fit! thanks again for all the pics! Now I just need to decide if I want the brush guard or not.
  11. SuperWade - thats exactly the bumper i'm thinking about getting too ..... it will need some shackles and D rings of course. James - thanks for taking the additional photos. Your license plate sure looks nice ..... a bit hard to actually see the bumper though ;) I'd also be interested in seeing how your shackles turn out.
  12. Very nice! Would you mind taking a few more shots of the front from different angles and what not. I'm seriously considering a Warrior bumper from Quadratec as well.
  13. What about the lift/tire size. Looks like about 4" to me with 32s ..... what do you guys think? PS - I kind of like the black better as well, but I have the Grizzly rims sitting in my garage .... free is nice ;)
  14. When I see MJs I like, I save the picture to a folder. This is one of my favorites and I'd like to know more about its lift and tire size. Anyone know anything? Is it considered bad MJ manners to coppy someone elses truck? Also, I have a set of gray grizzly wheels in the garage, how do you guys think the second picture looks with those wheels on it?
  15. My "new" 87 MJ doesn't have near the pep as my 96 XJ, and the XJ has 40K more miles. Maybe the difference is that the XJ has the HO, or maybe its because the MJ is almost ten years older ;) So, I'm looking for a list of thins to do to my "new" MJ to help it run better and have a bit more pep. All I know to do is a general tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fluids, filters), but I'm sure there is more I can do.
  16. Thanks for the info guys .... very helpful!! I've been thinking about my floorboards. I won't have any trouble grinding and cutting out the bad stuff. Its welding in the new stuff that has me stumped. Option 1: Buy myself a decent MIG welder for ~$600 and learn to use it. Option 2: Take it to my buddy's father's place .... he does a darn good job with his stick welder. Option 3: Take it to a local weld shop. Option 4: Skip the welding and go nuts with screws or pop-rivits (not a fan of this option) Problem with option 1 is that I'm not sure I want to drop the cash on a tool that I may or may not use in the future. Problem with Option 2 and 3 is that I have no seat, seat belts, or inspection .... so I really shouldn't be driving it around - I'm currenty sitting on a plastic bucket to pull it in and out of the garage. And, I don't think my friend's father's set-up is portable. What do you guys think? Anyone live close to Downingtown, PA with a MIG welder :brows:
  17. I don't have a lot of time to work on the MJ, so this thread could be really slow. The first thing I did was rip out the entire interior. The seat and trim pieces are actually in decent shape, just dirty. I'll need to get a radio, speakers, interior lights, a headliner, and new carpet. But, like lots of you have seen, the floorboards went on strike .... about a decade ago. My plan includes the following: Fix the floorboards Fix interior - reupholster seat, clean all trim pieces, buy headliner, stereo, speakers, interior lights, carpet Fix Body - sand/grind off all the paint and primer, fix all the bad spots New primer and paint New wheels, tires, shocks, and a 3-4" lift (including other misc. suspension parts) Custom front and rear bumpers - nothing massive I have about a $4k budget which should be enough, I just don't have the time. I figure it will take me a couple years to get everthing done. If the interior and body turn out really well, I will consider a new engine/tranny/case etc. down the road.
  18. Hi! About five months ago I sold a perfectly good 2001 Corolla with only 65k miles on it and got a 96 XJ with 150k miles on it. The wife thought I had lost my marbles. I don't know why I didn't do this years ago. I love the XJ as a DD. But that wasn't enough. I started watching Craigslist, and what do you know ..... two miles from my house I found this little gem. It only cost me $525 and it runs pretty well. '87 117k 4.0L 4x4 auto long bed. I don't know a whole lot about MJs, so I have no idea what transfer case, tranny, or axels I have. The interior and body need some TLC, but hey, thats the fun part, right.
