Thanks for the info .... I'll make sure to keep everything greased. As a side note - the truck is in for inspection right now and the guy just called .... he found a loose bolt somewhere that may have been contributing to the noise. Once I get it back I'll re-post about the noise issue. PS - it passed inspection!!!!!!!!!!

I recently had the Motion Offroad 3" kit installed on my 87 MJ. http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... cts_id=207 Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. The front springs only gave about 2" of lift at best, but there is a chance I got a bum set .... they are looking into getting me a new set. It seems like a capable kit. My only real complaint is that its a noisy kit. Because of the way the control arms and disconnects are designed, there is a decent amount of clanking and thumping that goes on. I don't think its a problem, just noisy. I did a lot of research, and this was the only kit under $1000 with full leafs, quick discos, adjustable control arms, and an adjustable track bar. Its a great all-in-one kit to get you on the trails.

I dropped my Jeep off at Andy in PA's house this Saturday. He is putting on my lift and doing a lot of brake work for me. I'm really excited to see how it looks. I forgot to look up directions to his house, but I knew the general area. I was worried about finding the right house, but as soon as I saw a house with a super built PURPLE XJ sitting next to a silver MJ on 33s ..... I knew I found the right place. -
Thanks for the replies. After some research, it seems that getting an entire MJ Line-Xed would cost about $1,000 .... maybe more. For that kind of money, I think I'd rather have a DIY paint job for $100 and get some off-road bumpers for the truck instead.

I've read a lot about guys putting Line-X or Herculiner in their beds, on the interior floor, or on the rockers. But has anyone done their entire body? I've seen some Wranglers that had it done, and they look pretty nice. Take a look: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=561140&page=2 Any photos or comments about this?

Mrsimon's First Mj Project (Tube Bed Page 7)

Did a little work on the MJ this past weekend. Installed the headliner. It wasn't too bad, but I ended up with a few creases above the doors. I can live it. I used some high quality velcro on the front. The visors and clips helped hold it in a lot. I was missing one of the side clips. The back of the headliner sits nicely on the trim above the rear window. I installed the JC Whitney carpet kit. It went ok, but there are lots of loose or "bubbly" areas. The kit wasn't molded at all ... just a big square piece of carpet. Heavy dudty floor mats and the bench seat cover almost all the carpet anyway .... overall I like it. I re-installed the bench seat with the new fabric. It looks nice!! I put all the trim back on and the thing looks respectable. I'll take and post some pics tonight. -

Hey, I wanted to give an update on my project. Well, nothing has changed  Been realy busy! The only thing I've done to the Jeep is pull it in and out of the garage to get the mower out once a week. Anyway, I'm going to work on the interior this weekend. I could REALLY use some tips on how to install the headliner I got from ebay. I haven't really looked at it, but I don't know how the darn thing is supposed to stay on the roof. I did a search, but didn't find anything helpful. -

Lots of things arrived today! Got the seat back from the upholstery shop. I think it turned out pretty good for a 21 year old bench seat. Got most of the lift kit from Motion Off-road. Just waiting on the leafs, trac bar, and the brake lines. I also bought some center caps .... got six cause they were only $1.99 each! Lots of trim pieces that need to be cleaned. Carpet kit from JC whitney -

The fabric is already attached to the fiberboard. It seems like a good quality kit. -

The headliner I ordered from Ebay is here. It seems nice, but I have no idea how to install it. It also came with two extra pieces of fabric .... for the visors, I suppose. -

Thats how I orginally planned to do it .... but I don't have access to a welder and the Jeep can't be driven to a shop right now. In the end, its a $500 truck ...... screws will work just fine, they just won't be pretty. I'll make sure to seal it all up so moisture can't get in. -

Its a pretty solid floor. Most of the rust was just on the surface and didn't eat through. I cut out the parts where it did eat through, and will screw in some sheet metal soon. -

Been working on the floorboards: A good wire wheel on an angle grinder works wonders on rusty floorboards. I wouldn't want to use anything else. But, it is VERY important to wear GOOD eye protection, heavy gloves, and a thick mask ... I actually used a full respirator. I looked like a freak'n space man, but those wire wheels throw off some sharp little pieces, and rusty air isn't too good for the lungs. Anyway, after I ground off the rusty pretty good, I cut out some sheet metal to fit the holes. Then I sprayed everything down with POR15 Metal Prep. Awesome stuff. You just spray it on all the metal and it eats off whatever rust the wire wheel missed. Then I put on the first coat of POR15 Rust Paint .... nice and thin. Here is the progress so far: Next step will be to paint the patche pieces with POR15 Paint and then screw them in. Then put another coat overtop of everything. Stay tuned! -

Thanks, I think she is cute too, but she isn't that young .... she was born in 1987 so she is 21 now. I think she'll look even better once I get her lifted and painted. Oh ...... you were talking about my daughter ...... yup, just shy of ten months. I hope the MJ is still around when she turns 16 -

Tires are here!!!!! I don't have the lift yet, but I just couldn't help myself. I just had to put them on. They look great .... and I could drive around the block with no rubbing on stock suspension ..... as long as I didn't turn or hit any type of bump -
Fixing Rusted Out Metal on Side of Bed

I suppose I could move the cut line down a bit. The pic doesn't look too bad, but almost everything below the bend is 100% Bondo. -

LoL! Oh, right .... that makes sense. I'm a little dense! The shipping company called and something is arriving today .... its either the wheel/tire combo or the lift kit. Either way, I'm pumped! -
Fixing Rusted Out Metal on Side of Bed
MrSimon replied to MrSimon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
XJ doors is a good idea, but I don't think it will work. The door metal is shorter because it stops above the rockers. The bed metal extends all the way down and even wraps under a bit. I could take a piece from the rear panel of an XJ, but I'm pretty sure that section isn't wide enough. I think my best bet is to find an MJ bed in decent enough shape and cut out a patch. How about bending sheet metal to fit .... has anyone ever done that? -
I agree with most of the other guys .... stop getting into trouble and start being more responsible. If you wouldn't have been screwing around in the first place, you wouldn't be faced with loosing your truck. But, since you are in this situation .... sit down with your Pops and make a deal with him ... he only takes the truck away temporarily .... if you stay out of trouble, you get it back. And most importantly .... be respectful to your parents.

The spot in the red circle is almost 100% Bondo. It doesn't look horrible in the photo, but its pretty wavy and starting to chip and crumble out. I would just re-do the Bondo, but there is no metal left underneath. So, I'm thinking about cutting at the line and welding in new metal. Ideally, I would find a nice rust-free MJ bed to cut the patch out of, but that could be difficult. So, a couple questions: Has anyone ever done this before? Do you think sheet metal could be bent nicely enough to look stock? Does anyone have a rust and dent free bed that they can chop up and ship me what I need :brows:

Wanted to give an update. Unfortunately, all I've had time to do so far is spend money and order stuff  This is what I've been doing: Dropped the bench seat off at the upholstery shop to have it re-done ... in two-tone. Ordered a bunch of Por15 and primer for the floor boards. Ordered a set of 31 BFG Mud Terrains mounted on black steel wheels from TirePackage.com Ordered a full 3" lift kit, shocks, and brake lines from MotionOffRoad. Ordered a new carpet kit from JCWhitney Ordered a new headliner from eBay. Grabbed a bedliner, mirrors, and an XJ prop. valve from the J/Y The only real work I've done is to grind the rust out of the floorboards. It looks pretty good and is almost ready for the POR15. Stuff should start arriving any day now. I'll keep this thread updated with pictures as best I can. -
Lifting the MJ - Choices Choices

I looked at the Skyjacker kit, its pretty nice, but I just don't think putting AALs in 21 year old leafs is a great idea. If they had a complete kit, I would definately consider it.
