1986 Comanche Xls Resto
19comanche86 replied to 19comanche86's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Thank you, this has been a long time coming. I’m gonna be raptor lining the engine bay tomorrow if the rain holds out. I’ll let that dry for a few days and then drop the engine in finally. Still a lot to do but that will be a mile stone. Trying to get as much done as I can before I send it to paint at the end of next week. Got a factory wheel recovered in black leather. Keeping the horn button and my seat belts maroon. Everything else will be black. On the hunt for black door panels. Holy $#!& expensive Hood pin set I went with. Also ordered the dirt bound battery tray. Looks to be a solid piece Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

That’s exactly what I did, mimicked your set up, So thank you lol unfortunately there was no way to keep the stock hood latch. It moved it way to far back. I ended up getting flat black flush Mount hood pins. Not my first choice by any means but it should look clean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

These are the seats I have been thinking for my truck. Have you put them in yet just to see how the fitment is? Are you using the stock MJ brackets or did you get the corbeau brackets? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 798 replies

Got the rear lift kit installed. This week I’m taking the truck to my buddies fabrication shop and we are cutting the cross member out and welding in a tubular bar with mounts for the radiator. A few people have done it on here already so I’m using their picture / idea. Being an 86 there is really no other good option. The truck will be home by the weekend at which point the engine bay will be raptor lined and the LS1 will be installed 48 hours later. I have the LS1 completely ready to go in. Brakes are all done as well. We are getting close boys. Once the engine is in I’ll strip the truck down as much as I can, tail lights, trim, bumpers etc and take it to the paint shop. Gonna be there for a while there is a lot of dings, dents and 2 layers of $#!& paint that have to come off. Here she is with the new gladiator wheels with 33s and 4.5” lift And the LS1 fully dressed and ready to go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Well...if you can believe it I still don’t have the motor mounts back from Novak, they have had them since 11/16. Went from great customer service to $#!&. They claim this week, again. Otherwise engine and trans is ready to go in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

In the mean time I installed the full Clayton control arm kit, adjustable Clayton track bars and 2.5” Mopar lift with 1.5” teraflex spacer on the gladiator with 35” milestar Patagonia’s. Looks so awesome now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Still waiting on the motor mounts unfortunately. Has been a big delay. Found some gladiator Sport S wheels today on Craigslist brand new. $100 for all 4. Putting the 33” wild peaks off my gladiator on these wheels and they should look great on the Comanche. Adapters are on the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Update. Looks like there is variance from early MJ/XJ to the 1987+ Novak with some excellent customer service here. So it’s gonna be a 2 week setback but it’s ok Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Yep I’m honestly not sure. They fit the frame rail pretty good. I can’t get the holes to line up any better than the pics I took. They mounts in the install instruction packet are definitely different. I contacted Novak. I’ll keep you guys posted Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I think Novak sent me the wrong mounts or I’m doing something wrong. Can anyone that’s installed these shed some light on this? The mounts look different than the ones that are picture on the install sheet right off the bat. Several of the holes aren’t even close to lining up. Not even close to lining up with the holes for the drag link bracket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Degreased and pressure washed the engine bay yesterday. Gotta pull the old brake lines and fuel lines out, then scuff it and I’ll raptor line it next week. Buddy made me an adapter plate for the manual brake conversion. Picked up this master from Napa, my buddy used it on his jeep and he’s very happy with it. I’ll be doing all new brake lines and fittings etc once the bay is raptor lined . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Got the old girl out of the garage today and started prepping the engine bay for the raptor liner. Also took the chance to get some pics with the gladiator for the first time. As far as progress goes, still waiting for the LS1 harness, I have the whole fuel system, lift kit etc. making progress on that front as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Still moving forward, mostly been gathering parts. At this point I’m waiting for the harness and computer to come back from being converted to stand alone. Once that’s back I’ll drop everything in for a mock test fit, then pull it all out, merge the few wires I need from the jeep harness and raptor coat the engine bay. Installed the Holley front drive today. Looks pretty clean with the black brackets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
