Can you hear the fuel pump running on these things when you turn the key on? -
What exactly is that product?

Had them and loved them.

Thanks Eagle. I forgot to mention that the steering wheel was replaced by a dealership, and the rig died before he could find out about the horn thing. Why he never took it back, I dunno. anyway, he thinks maybe they screwed up the wiring when putting it in. He`s not home tomorrow, and it is still at his place. He`s not around tomorrow, so next time I go back I`d like to make sure I have some good starting points (no pun intended). -

Well guys, I tried today. I went to see it, and after discussing with the owner and coming to the conclusion that it most likely was the cps, I bought it. Then I bought a new cps for it and taught myself how much fun it is to install one instead of coming back with a trailer. Got it installed, all pumped up, turned the key to crank it over and..... It kept cranking. and there are no lights on the dash at all. No clue. The owner didn`t do any work on it, just had a friend check it over, who said the ignition coil, fuel, plugs, distrib., ballast resistor, etc. were all fine or replaced. Then I found out that it when it was stolen once (which I knew), he had weird problems like the horn going off around corners. So maybe something is screwed in the wiring. and where`s the ecu on these things? -

Forgot about the coil. So most likely coil or cps? -
Okay, hopefully looking at an MJ that has "no spark"... died on the guy going out the garage one day. - battery cables - ecu - cps - distributor possibly 180 Anything else to check on it? I hate buying things that don't start. :(

Well, I kinda figured two things....one, my daughteris only 5'2", and I don't think that's going to change now...figure she's done growing. So it would work as a step/running board for her, without being those stupid running boards that like to collect sand and dirt and eventually rust behind them. Two, I thought it might be easier to burn on there, instead of the finesse needed t make a nice job of the corners (i.e. more Neander-machanic type of work :D ) Hmmm....I like that title...think I'll keep it.

I'm going to quote Dirty Comanche here instead of making everyone go through his whole thread: Is it possible to do sliders like this on a comanche?
-
Well, I got this Eliminator for $250, so that one worked out well...no complaints.
-
You're exactly right....getting pics ahead of time of everything would have made sense. And not trying to be rude the way I say this either, but I'm sure you guys could be using PM's to ask about each other's paint jobs. lol :D

I was a little pissed, but what can you do. "4 cylinder" should not mean "4.0 litre"....guess I ask for a picture of the engine next time.

bought another, need front lift advice

No 44, and $200 is a killer bargain, but I don't need it. I need axles with better gears than 3.07 for the manche. -
Well, strike one. The Cherokee that I found for $200 that was supposed to be the elusive 2.5 4cyl auto with the tow package, and possibly 4.56 gears and maybe even a Dana 44...... Turned out to be a 4.0 6 cylinder auto, after a 300km trip. Little pissed about that one, but hey...move along and keep looking I guess. :dunno:

Well, went down to Calgary today with the full intentions of driving this unit back here. Got there, and he had the jeep ready, inspection papers if I wanted to see them, etc. I told him far as I was concerned, I just wanted to jack the rear end, turn the wheel(s) and check the gear ratio - if it worked for me, I was slamming in a battery and driving away - especially seeing as it was the elusive 2.5l 4 cylinder automatic with the tow package, and more than likely the 4.56 gears and possible a dana 44, all for a grand total of $200...... That's when I walked around the rear end to check and make sure it had the hitch and saw this:    There was a little bit of poetic inspiration that went through my head at that moment.....   The guy got "4 cylinder" and "4 litre" mixed up. -

Okay, finally going to run down and get this rig if it turns out for me....any last things to watch out for? -
I think I could pull off the blue I posted, and have it look good. The pink, well....lemme just post something that was posted on the Mercedes forum to make a point: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1244348683.html :ack:

Of course, my daughter doesn't want white. She's hoping for this: Image Not Found

Not sure what I'm going to do here. Picked up this $250 1990 Eliminator 4x4 with the 4.0/ax-15 shortbox a few months back, and plan on turning this into a rig for my daughter. I had a long box last year, but ran out of room and sold it off (it was 2wd anyway). Initial ideas are a 4" lift, larger tires, spacers, 97+ front, paint....the usual stuff I might never get around to doing. The thing runs great though.....and it's fast.

PO swapped the tranny, and he's not sure which he has.
-
Hmm, I'll have to check with the guy I am getting info from. His 87 Wrangler now sports a om617 Mercedes motor, mated up to an AX-15. Must have swapped the tranny too.
-
Thanks, I'm thinking of using the AX-15 to swap to a diesel. And to mock it up, long as the shaft is the right length, I can do that. But to mate the actual AX-15 I have, I'll need to find another bearing that fits this diameter, or just swap AX-15's as well when I pull the engine (as I know which bearing I need for the later AX-15's). Would my 90 AX-15 likely be the same as an 87 YJ, or possibly different (barring possible swaps).
-
So if I have a 1990, the info I can find is that the Renix controls were switched starting in 1991. So I would have the different shaft/ bearing? The bearing/ shaft diameter, not so big a deal....the shaft...does the length differ?
