4.0 water pump: I know, just need a straight answer
Rohls replied to Rohls's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks! Motor is stock, 90% daily driver. I'd like to give my cooling system a bump if at all possible. Don't want to hurt dependability though.- 11 replies

Hi. Got a '92 4.0 manche. Stock engine. I've been hearing my water pump squawk at me recently, so gotta start thinking about replacing it. All the research I do is confusing. All I'm trying to do is replace my stock water pump with something a little better if advised....like a Hepco. Is this an upgrade? I don't want to start a holy war. If it's sketchy and a stock one will do the trick more efficiently, where do I get one that won't poop out on me in 1 month? Is any old brand off Amazon okay? Mopar? Many thanks!

Headlight Wiring Harness Questions
Rohls replied to SBpunk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You guys rock! Thanks for the tips. I will be making my own black harness shortly:) also, do the 'old bulb holders' just hang out when this new harness is installed..? Kinda seems like it from the above diagram. -
Headlight Wiring Harness Questions
Rohls replied to SBpunk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hi, so I'm looking around to upgrade my harness and headlights. I'm going for the Hellas E-codes. I'm trying to purchase the harness, but there are a disturbing number of negative reviews on amazon....Putco 230004HW Premium Automotive Lighting Wiring H4 100W Heavy Duty Harness and Relay Thoughts if cheap relays, poor crimps, no inline fuse and improper gauge wire worry me. Is there a more quality plug and play harness somewhere? Or does someone have an easy to follow schematic u can piece a harness together with? Thanks. -
Thanks all.

Nice! Anyone on their MJ? Do I just get the 2.25" center/offset model and clamp it on? Where did you buy it from...? Thanx!

Looking for a Magnaflow muffler for my 92 MJ 4.0...anybody have this on there's? Pics? Comments? Improvement over stock? Video of sound? I've checked the Magnaflow site...seems like they have one; PN14225. Anybody have this one? Thanks!

Thanks, I just did the same. Seems to be the best option for the stock (low compression) motor. Thanks again! They're not low compression motors........ Sure. I just meant my motor isn't some built-up monster.

Got my AC-Delco starter yesterday...it's made in China....made of new parts.

Anybody...?

Thanks all. What about a powermaster 9004? Claims 180 ft-lbs of torque...can't find any reviews though.

Hi All, I have a 1992 MJ 4.0L 5-speed and the starter is going out.... What's the better starter to purchase? I'm looking for quality...not overly concerned with price... THanks!

Thanks for the replies! TBC! Yeah, that video isn't the greatest, but it's something. Thanks again., -
What is this sound coming from my engine?
Rohls replied to Rohls's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Guys, I'll confirm the HB is bad when I get a chance to crawl under there. I did grab and shake it, but it's on there pretty tight from when I can muscle. You seem pretty convinced that is the issue; thanks again. In you older thread you may have mentioned the Dorman HB is of lesser quality than another brand...which is the one to get? How long does this approximately take? Is it terrible to drive it around until this weekend when i can go after it? Thanks! -
Please help me with this terrible noise...:/ 1992 comanche 4.0 5-speed, 80k miles....pretty much stock and taken care of... View My Video

Thanks Eagle. So I just went out there again.... I first tested the voltage at the connector..= the same readings as before. I flipped the A/C to test, heard what I imagine was the A/C compressor relay (under the passenger dash near risistir pack) click. I then tested the voltage again and ALL VOLTAGE in all positions DROPPED TO 0.0XX VOLTS. Frustrating... I now have little to no-voltage at the connector... Could the heater control switch be bad? A/C relay effecting things...? What else in the world is in this heater circuit?!? BTW, here is a pic of my heater control switch...I have no OFF selection for the heat/vent selection, only fan speed. I also tested the NEGATIVE BODY-SIDE connector to BATTERY NEGATIVE and the resistance reading was 0.4 Ohms.

Ok, I checked a few things today, With the grond wire from the MOTOR SIDE connector wired to the negative of the battery via alligator clips and the positive if the TRUCK side connector (like normal) to the positive of the motor connector...I still don't get anything. Here I was trying to rule out the grounding issue, and I think I did...right? I took the voltage readings as suggested above...I plugged the negative of the meter into the black wire at the motor connector, the positive of the meter into the green wire at the connector....put the meter outside facing in to the cab. Switch the key to the acessory position (that's alright, right?) and noted the following readings... on the BI-LEVEL setting: Off=0 V Low=11.69 V Med=11.72 V High=11.57 V On the HEAT Setting: Off=0 V Low=12.09 V Med=12.09 V High=12.09 V On the VENT setting: Off=0 V Low=12.07 V Med=12.07 V High= 12.07 V I take it the motor has to have 12.4 V or higher to kick on, right? >>>>Could the battery be the issue here?<<<<<< I have no more ideas....except for the switch itself...if I'm not getting very different voltages....could that be the culprit? What do other people get for values here? Thanks! . :MJ 1: .

Will do! Thanks so much. I will hopefully get a chance tomorrow to look at it again and report back. Thanks everyone...!

Please tell me where the motor ground terminates and I will test. From what I see the ground (negative/black) wire going to the connector dissapears into the harness... I test the ground wire at the connnector to the chassis/frame of the truck and there is a connection. I'd have to double check, but pretty sure in the 0.2-0.3 Ohm range...ie just fine. The motor has voltage at that connector, so from what I understand that means it has a path to ground. There was no voltage at the fuse because the resistor pack wasn't present. not exactly sure why, though not gonna worry about it at this point. Thanks again for the tips.

I did pull the switch/selector/HVAC assembly from the dash. No visible damage...I didn't have a chance to put a meter on it. I will do this over the weekend. Where specifically should I look for continuity...? Each position (HI/MED/LOW) on the switch? If it helps, there is a sound like a relay half-way clicking coming from the resistor pack area (under/in the glovebox) when I switch the HI/MED/LOW fan selector...kinda strange. Thanks for the help!
