  1. Good morning CC members. It's been several years since l have posted in here (testament to the reliability of our little rigs), it's time to refresh the steering on my 89. I know it's been covered but l'll be damned if l can find the write ups on ZJ steering conversions. Simply put, l need to know what parts will fit the 89 D30. The most economical solution seems to be complete or semi-complete kits. I know that the heavier duty V8 ZJ steering links will fit but what about the ball joints? Most of the kits come with ball joints, l just want to know if the parts will interchange before l pull the trigger.
  2. Wow, thanks again guys. All good info. My origional thought was to go with all Moog parts and l see that my first instinct was correct. I have heard some feed back on a decline in quality but it still seems to be the choice of most. I am still concidering going with Timken bearings instead.
  3. Thank you all for the input, l have a good idea what direction to go in.
  4. Hey guys, it’s been a while since l have been here but my old Heep has been pretty reliable for the past few years but, it’s now time to do the ball joints, tie rod and ends and bearings. Looking for recomendations for specific brands that you like and why. Also, possibly interested in the one ton ball joints and rod ends so tell me what is involved in that kind of conversion, have you done it and would you do it again?
  5. Got the 5v between B and C positions on the plug but no voltage to A. The relay is tested and good including resistance. 12v from the 86 terminal to 85 but the relay isn’t switching while in the system, so, no power to 87a. What is the power source to the 30 terminal? Or am l looking in the wrong place.
  6. Thanks for that Stroker, it’s on it’s way. It just won’t be here until the 29th. Damn!
  7. OK guys, thank you. The problem hasn’t been about a $55 dollar part. The issue is “shipping and handling” l couldn’t get one to my door for less than $77, l have been looking. It just seems like a lot, especially since the Echelon unit from Napa used to be regarded pretty highly and is available for just more tgan half that money. And, would like to have it running today, not the middle of next week.
  8. Any opinion on the Crown Automotive Crank Position Sensor? Not trying to cheap out here but the Mopar unit is just ridiculously expensive. Reviews for most brands are poor at best, even the NAPA brand that Cruiser54 had recomended at one time. Thoughts?
  9. Thanks HOrnbroad, any opinion on the crowne automotive part?
  10. No stored cookies
  11. Anybody have the part number for the MOPAR CPS for an 89 4.0?
  12. Yep, checked every voltage range. Got nothing but zeros.
  13. Yep, 200vac. Also checked all other ac volt ranges just to be sure. And, no, it isn’t a cheepo metre.
  14. OK, so how am l getting no voltage and running??? I went and checked it 4-5 times just to eliminate my own personal stupidity and ineptitude from the equasion.
  15. Had to recover my password after an extended absence. If you check my account l’m sure that you’ll see that l have had to reset my password 3-4 times today. Every time that l put in my new password the second time for confirmation the bot says that they don’t match, (EVERY TIME) l know for a fact they do, then tap the log in button twice even with what the bot says is incorrect logs me in, but then can’t log in next time, then the proscess starts all over. Having to reset again just to log in.
  16. I just checked CPS and got 0.00v plug it back in starts right up, what gives?
  17. Hey guys, haven’t been here in a while, but l am stumped. I just did a fresh engine build for my 89, my block was bad so l got a 1992 block that came with a 1994 ho head. Here are the specs. 030 over, new pistons, new rings, new bearings, new cam, lifters, push rods. Head was plained, fresh valve job, (leak tested) valve guids well within spec, new valve seals. Engine starts and ldles perfectly, won’t rev at all. I have indexed the distributer (new), set the TPS, coil is new as of last spring, new plugs, new injectors (volvo), IAC valve cleaned and functional, EGR functional, fuel pressure 31psi. Vacuum tested 17 inches of mercury at idle. 4 additional and large grounds. HELP!!! Please. FB455A41-F34C-4DD1-AE73-22C5D7A94698.MOV
  18. Hornbrod, that was for my shackles, Mike never did the bastard pack, we just put in the complete packs. and yes, he did use new shackles. lol
  19. The Ford springs actually had more arch to them than the stock MJ springs, but keep in mind that the MJ springs were OLD!! and sagging badly, but with the Ford rear springs and 2" spacer in the front the truck has a bit of a rake to it.
  20. OK, as far as refreshing the front end is concerned I did not replace the ball joints they checked out fine as did everything that I did not change. No play anywhere, in any axis. I just replaced the upper and lower control arms with Grand units because it was easier than just replacing the bushings in the old ones, and yes I did replace the bushings on the axle. and I made a sway bar re-locator and added Grand end links. It turns out that I did make the mistake (DUHHHH) of tightening the components before I reinstalled the tires and loaded the suspension, I have remedied that situation and it did help some. I don't intend to put on adjustable CA's unless I am out of options. Front brakes are fine and not dragging. I will check my camber to make sure that I haven't bent my axle, but I doubt it, none of this was a problem before the lift and control arm swap. I have not swapped the front tires yet but I will in the morning (life does have a way of getting in the way of such things) and when I do get this sorted (I'm close... I think) I am going to remove 10mm of shims from the left LCA and weld up and re-drill the axle end of the left UCA 10mm back.
  21. 1997-2003 58" leaf packs. My buddy Mike found a set of 3/1 leafs. The newer Ford springs "seem" to be a superior spring compared to anything else that I found and are progressive.
  22. I am only running 2" of lift so I should have some adjustment left but..... I have not tired swapping front tires left to right but I don't think that's the problem. I think I may have committed the cardinal sin of tightening the front suspension with no weight on it, I'll have to check it out this next day off.
  23. and if this is a question of caster, I don't think I can get any more. The lower CA bolts are pushed as far forward as they will go. I am about to lose access to the nut on the CA.
  24. Ooooooo, I haven't checked them individually, only at the dif. 87.5deg
