Automan2164
Well, doing my almost daily Craigslist search a few weeks ago something popped up that didn't seem right. In my search of "Jeep Comanche" an ad popped up with the title "Jeep Desk". Curiosity struck me as to why a furniture listing for "Jeep Desk" would show up on a Comanche search, so I clicked it expecting to find some toddler inspired Jeep desk or stroller. Nope! holland craigslist > for sale / wanted > furniture - by owner Jeep Desk - $50 (Holland North Side) Date: 2011-11-19, 11:24PM EST Reply to: sale-wd3vn-2711736169@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] This desk is made from the rear clip of a Jeep comanche pickup truck. This unit mounts to the wall. After making some arrangements, I decided that it would be worth my 450+ mile round trip. Gave me some time on the road, and I had never been to Holland, MI before. Excuse enough right? Plus, at $50, it was a steal. Even if I wouldn't use it as a desk, the tailgate and tails were worth at least double that. Today was the day. I saddled up at 10 am, got there about 3. It could only be owned by a Jeep guy. :D 4 of his 5 kids had XJ's as a first car, and the last had an XJ in her future. The MJ desk was in his son's room, hanging off the wall before, but they were now moving. He had it hanging by some pieces of angle. It had a little mistreating from his daughters dragging it around on it's tails/gate over the concrete, but it was all there. He even knocked the price down to $30 for the drive, and because of the damage. I left him with a CC magnet, and he pointed me to find an MJ locally that's always just sitting there. I couldn't find the MJ, but he insisted on heading out the next chance he can and send me a pic of it. Good guy. He was just happy that the desk he made found a good home with someone who can really appreciate it, which I will. :brows: My pics: My plans: Clean up the jagged back edge, and adhere some slit fuel tubing to keep the edge clean and safe. Attach some plywood to the back to keep the sides from flexing in and out. Make some built-in cubbyholes with a top that's flush with the bed rails so that when the gate is up, it looks like a table. Then when you drop the gate, the gate becomes the desk, and the cubbies hold all the knick-nacks and supplies. Clean up a D35 cover to nail to the wall in the correct location beneath, and 2 pieces of tire tread on either side. Rob
