what years can donate a piston for a 96 4.0?

Recommended Posts

I know I've asked before when it happened but cannot for the life of me find the thread.

anywho, there's a slight chance I can get up to michigan for an extended weekend in december and figured I should start the hunt for a replacement just in case.  I've got a feeling I'll need an injector too (the running hypothesis being that it was a lean condition that caused it), but that's a lot easier to grab from the local yards than a piston so I want to get the piston down here (in the no-snow zone) ahead of time.

Correct, the 95 and 96 pistons carry different part numbers. These are the standard piston assemblies available for the 96 engine:

1996

4798329, 6, "B" Size, 3.8742

4798330, 6, "C" Size, 3.8746

4798331, 6, "D" Size, 3,8750

4798332, 6, "E" Size, 3.8754

4798333, 6, "F" Size, 3.8758

The rods are all the same.

looks as if the older ones are different.  :(  thanks though.  no idea if they will still work well enough.  I mean, how different can they be?

a quick search on car-part shows a part number break between 96-99 and 99-01 injectors.  the good news is that the injector was very common among chrysler vehicles so that'll make it easier.   (maybe)
