Backdraft Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 is there on the renix 4.0 ECU between an auto and a stick? I finally got my MJ running after replacing the entire wire harness from front to back and swapping ECUs. Only hangup is the working ECU is for an auto and its now in a manual. Are there any negative effects of running this computer or am i better off getting a computer for the manual? thanks. Mike
Geonovast Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Yes there is a difference. I have working ECUs for 88 4.0/4x4/5 speed and 87 4.0/4x4/5 speed. If you need one lemme know. Oh, and the throttle bodies for autos and sticks are different as well. I believe the auto ones have a second TPS.
reson46 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 The ECU is the same between auto and stick for the 4.0. The AW4 used with the 4.0 has a completely separate TCU that only needs input from the TPS and does not communicate with the ECU. You should be fine. Willy
Backdraft Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 wire harness wasnt hard at all to replace. its all plug and play right? and which one is it guys, i got conflicting answers...lol. i understand theres a separate TCU and the throttle body bracketry and TV cable and all is not present on the stick. The fact that there is a separate TCU leads me to believe theres no difference. however the fact that at my local parts house they carry two different part numbers as well as prices leads me to believe they are somehow different.

I swapped an AW4 into an '88 with the Peugeot 5 speed. I did nothing to the ECU. All I had to do was swap in the TCU with all of the related wiring, TPS, cables, etc. Willy
