Oizarod115
What exactly is involved in puttin a dana 44 from a 87 XJ in my 89 MJ to replace a D35? i know the spring perches are off, but how much? i can't seem to find any good pics or threads by searching so i figured id try my own thread for once. also the shock mounts.. will the stock ones work with the XJ44 ones? thanks in advance for any help/info. DirtyComanche
If you reuse the MJ spring plates, the shock mounts are already on them. And you're going to be out say, 5/8th of an inch on each side. That is, the Xj is 5/8" wider on each side. Maybe. Nobody knows for sure because we suck with tape measures. You could be lazy like Pete and extend the perches and drill a new centre hole. Your pinion angle won't be lovely like that. Actually, wait, you want to go SOA while you do this? XJs are SOA stock, MJs are SUA stock. The old spring perches will be totally useless if you aren't going SOA.
pingpong
The best way to do a SOA, is to buy new spring perches. as for the spring plates, go and pull the d44 ones. they will fit better then the d35 ones. as for shocks you will need some new ones as well. Trailer shackle mounts are just the right size and are cheap, unless you have some 2x2 tubing laying around. If you were local I would say bring your rig and ALL the needed parts and plan on spending 4 hrs doing it. I am so good, I think I can almost do it in 2 though
