It did it again...

Some of you may remember that a while (about a year or so) ago, I posted that my gas gauge was acting up. Well, it did it again today on the interstate. Seemed the further the speedo needle went to the right, the further the gas needle went to the right, at one point it was almost perfectly flat to the right. :eek: I slowed down a lil, and it went back to just under a full tank, odd. I hadn't thought much else of it, til I got off the interstate, and came up to the lights and noticed the needle was way too far right again; gave the top of the dash a good whack, and it went back to just under full again. I'm thinking something's loose somewhere, but don't know what it could be, so I came to ask yet again, what's going on here?

 

Oh, and this is in Baby. '88/2.5/AX5.

 

I need help, as long as it doesn't cost very much, or hopefully nothing at all, as I'm dead broke for the month again.

try pulling the cluster and removing the screws that hold the fuel gauge in and give them a good scrub with a wirebrush.. and the contacts on the cluster too..

aww,,, i thought you were going to say that as your speedo went to the right, your gas gauge would go left. i was gonna say DUH! :fool:

 

so yeah, sounds like a bad electrical connection so do what jtdesigns said and check the printed electrical sheet on the back for any cracks

Well, to in a sense hijack my own thread, it's looking like I won't be able to get this done for at the absolute minimum of a week. Woke up with a bad pain in my chest, so I'm going back into the hospital again for some more I.V. anti-biotics. Could be as lil as one week, but more than likely it'll be two weeks I'll be gone.

How far can you pull out the clusterbefore the speedo cable becomes tight? Ive got the same issue with my gas guage. It sits flat level pointing at the speedo and when I get to 1/4 tank or less, it moves around like an electrocuted drunk.

dude.... Well man take care,, drink alot of water... lots of water cures everything... thats what my 1SG said anyways... He wouldn't lie... (would he??)
