bester45
Hey guys, I have an issue with my steering wheel. It seems like it’s not attached right anymore lol. That is, it can move about an inch or two laterally and horizontally. It still steers fine but it’s a little too sketchy for me to use. I get the impression that it is something to do with the steering column pivot but that doesn’t explain the horizontal movement. Don’t worry, it’s not currently on the road because it’s parked for the winter. I want to have it back on the road in the summer but there no way it going to drive it with the steering wheel this way. Just one of the many things on the Comanche to do list . . . So if you guys have any suggestions on how to fix this any input would be great Thanks
LJRockstar
IF it is a tilt column you need to get new pivot bushings. no big deal.
offroader461
there are 4 bolts that hold the tilt portin down to the lower part of the column and what happens is that they didnt use loctite on them and they back off causing the loose column...i took mine apart and put some threadlocker on them and tightend them up and havent had a problem since
Eagle
There have been several write-ups on this, complete with pictures, scattered all over the Internet for years. It isn't special to Jeeps -- it's a GM steering column and the problem affects their vehicles just as much as it does XJs and MJs.
