Beachbum1236
Hey everyone. I just got a new temperature sender and My idiot store didn't have the exact one, (and I didn't have one to show them, I lost it under all my junk   ) anyway, The one i got didn't fit because the threads were too big in diameter. Does anyone know the diameter of the threads, and what caliber the threads themselves are. IT would be great if someone could maybe look at the box theirs came in or knew the info. The engine that this sensor/sender is for is a 2.5 litre AMC 1986. Thanks!!!
DirtyComanche
Coolant temp? They're typically 1/8th NPT. However, been a long time since I looked at a 4-popper.
joshmillslane
I'm having the same problem on my 86 V6. I got the temp sender listed for the 2.8V6 w/guage at advance auto. It was way too small to fir the hole, so I found an adapter, screwed it into the head, fabbed up the wiring because the connector was different, and the guage will only move about 1/16" off of cold when it warms up. I know the guage works because it pegs when the wire to the sender is grounded out. I'd really like to get the 100% correct answer on where to get this part. I tried the part numbers some of the guys here gave me and only got confused looks from the parts dude. Is this something I can still get at a dealer? wooky48
Breathing new life into an old thread :brows: I am installing aftermarket gauges on my '89 2.5 and need to know if there is an alternate temp sender location (original at rear of the head doesn't look near big enough), the one I bought has a 5/8 brass nut at the end of the sensor tube/wire. I was looking under the hood and saw the water tube from the manifold to the thermostat as a possible (with a "T") unless there is somewhere else I can "tap" into. I'm throwing the towel in on the cluster, nothing on it works (correctly) except for high beam and turn lights and every time I go looking for a problem at hand something else goes "POOF" :headpop:  and I got it running good and gotta get this show on the road and let it be a work in progress while I do much needed repairs on my car.
