Car RamRod
Some moron before me pulled the tanks and to clean it I guess cut the top of the gas tank off then did welded it back together. yuck. I picked up a new CPS today. I'll probably put it in thursday....hopefully that was the problem.
Car RamRod
well here's a kicker. Truck started up with the old CPS. I put the new one in today just to make sure the @#$%ing thing doesnt get me stranded again, and now it won't start up at all. Fuel pump went on, but I didn't have anyone to check for spark while I cranked. any ideas?
JeepcoMJ
just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good. maybe it's faulty.
Car RamRod
just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good. maybe it's faulty. I suppose that was the problem; I put the old one back in and it fired up. I'm gonna return the "new" CPS and get a different one. My knock sensor was damaged as well...but that couldn't affect the engine's starting up right? Any other ideas here guys? I'm really starting to lose hope. And jeepco I might take you up on that fuel pump you have.....any idea on price?
CWLONGSHOT
just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good. maybe it's faulty. That's SMART advice right there!! When everything else checks out, Its time to go back and start looking at those "new" replacement parts!! CW
1987Comanche
Based on my experience with my '87 2.5L 5 speed, the Bosch pump is the upgraded lifetime warranty part. As an upgrade it is compatible but not a direct fit for the OE pump. I don't remember exactly what I had to move around on the sending unit but everything does fit, given some time and patience. If I had to do it again I'd probably look for an exact fit pump but the Bosch one has been in there for 6 months+ and works ok.
MiNi Beast
just jump the starter wire to batterey as you hold the plug to the block you just need to turn the engine over to get spark with your key on. Replace knock sensor as well. http://members.cox.net/wilsond/Fixes/di ... CPSdetails
Car RamRod
I put the new CPS in and it started, thank god. It still has to turn over a few times which I was hoping the new CPS would fix, but w/e. Thanks for all the help guys. Matt
