Beachbum1236
Hey guys, again. I am planing on putting a new gauge cluster (broke the old one trying to get it out, the sun had gotten to the plastic and it was super brittle) in and the one i'm looking at has a tach gauge. my old one had a big speedo, big gas gauge, a small oil, temp and bat. was wondering what it would take to make the new tach gauge fit and the smaller gas gauge work in the new cluster. maybe someone could refer me to a write up or some type of instruction. Was also wondering about how to hook the actual tach meter up to the engine. Thanks for the help in advance Chris
Pete M
If you have a full cluster previously, the tach will automatically work. Though it might not be all that accurate if it's coming from an engine with a different number of cylinders. Just make sure it's from the right generation. 91+ will be different and unusable. If I remember right, 87-90 will have a slightly different clip for the speedometer cable, but you can use the parts from your current one to make it work. :D
Geonovast
I put a full cluster in my 91 4cyl from a 92 XJ with the 4.0 and my Tach works perfectly, didn't have to adjust anything.
Beachbum1236
Sounds great! I'll be sure that the gauge cluster is from the same engine. Thanks for the responses. Chris
