Flizo Posted January 12 Share Posted January 12 Hello, I'm in the process of getting my Comanche back on the road and realized the turn signal mechanism is toast. It doesn't appear to be the actual stalk but something deep in the column. Is there something that could break and not allow the turn signals to activate? The high beams work but turn signals to click and the washer sometimes works. The whole thing is floppy. I attached a photo I can't tell if that's broken or just looks that way. Anybody know what part I would need and while I am in the column anything else I should change or check on while in there? Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There’s the whole turn signal switch assembly itself that could be broken or it could be something as simple as the arm that attaches to the stalk that moves the switch up or down to turn a signal on is not in alignment. GonzoTheGreat Posted January 12 Share Posted January 12 It sounds like there might be a problem with the turn signal switch itself. The stalk doesn’t really do much. The switch is fairly cheap to replace, and you can even replace just the canceling springs if that’s all that’s wrong with it. you have to pull the steering wheel and take a few things apart to get to it. It’s a bit of a pain. Then you can do a visual inspection. One of the canceling springs was fatigued in mine, so it didn’t always click in going left, but a new pair of springs sorted that out. Flizo Posted January 15 Author Share Posted January 15 Alright a big Thank you for bringing attention to the arm connected to the stalk and switch. That arm was not properly connected. It looks like the lock cylinder was changed at one point and whoever put it back together didn't know what they were doing. The steering wheel wasn't on tight and the lock ring wasn't even on. I properly attached the lever and now the turn signals work and the stalk is LESS floppy but still has a bit of play to it. Anyone know the name of the part that the stalk connects to? eaglescout526 Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 The stalk plugs into the wiper switch. I wouldn’t worry about it being tight like a new car as even if you swap out the switch, it still pivots on a rod that goes into the upper housing of the column.
