OE Pitman arm size and Track bar bracket drop from frame

Recommended Posts

Finally figured out what I think my death wobble is caused by. My track bar and drag link are not parallel.

What is the stock size of the pitman arm. The ? in the photo? All I can find is that the ZJ is 1 inch more than XJ/MJ but can't find any actual dimensions. Mine measures between 4.5 and 5 inches hard to tell with it still installed.970152548_IMG_20241018_1609491273.jpg.66cc9b8b1fa1c55a1c626db268640046.jpg

2nd question what is the factory length of the track bar pivot from the frame? I have an aftermarket double sheer bracket and bar. I think it is a drop bracket and is not correct for my application. It measures about 6 inches down from the frame1851605780_IMG_20241018_1620221693.jpg.3d9550069dbe53494e4507c729744101.jpg

I traced my stock Pitman arm a while back, trying to answer some questions without a bunch of 'buy and try' for my lift. Here's the measurements and notes I took:

This measurement from the bottom of the frame rail to the mount point is 4" +/- 1 RCH

I also have a double shear track bar and accompanying bracket. Drop from the frame rail to the bolt hole is 6 1/4." At least with the suspension not loaded with engine weight, I'm parallel with the STOCK Pitman arm. I thought I'd need a drop Pitman arm and grabbed the lowest of the low I could find, a white box version of the RC 6610. It was way too low. My setup with the stock Pitman arm:

  • 2 weeks later...

Update picked up a stock XJ pitman arm and it was the same as the one I had. IMG_20241102_203407618.jpg.fe9494e9bb9355d4422c468beb85517b.jpg

But my track bar still needed to go closer to the frame to be parallel with the steering. I ordered and installed and new bracket and track bar from Core4x4. Now everything lines up as it should. The Core4x4 bracket mounts the track bar 5-1/4 inches below the frame.IMG_20241025_145742299_HDR.jpg.2f02615ed7ff3b6f416f92a084ae19c0.jpg
