yungupgrade
If not, what do I need to purchase to make it work? The transmission from the 96 will be eventually going into my truck so that isn't changing.
ghetdjc320
If the 96 D30 is from an XJ it will fit. Just keep in mind that your front driveshaft will now be spinning constantly due to the lack of an axle disconnect. That’s typically not an issue but may reveal an unbalanced front driveshaft and or a bad transfer case front output bearing.

I should have specified, I meant driveshaft........ no idea why I wrote axle :(. Would be keeping my stock 88 D30 and using the 96 tranny and 96 front driveshaft. If that's possible that is. 87MJTIM
I think the AX15 is a little longer than the BA10, but not too much. That means the front drive shaft may be a little short. I have my original DS in in my MJ. I don't flex the axles in my driving.
