To stripe or not to stripe? That is the question.

Recommended Posts

I'm getting ready to "re-paint" my 88' Comanche Pioneer, (pic attached). It's in original black but badly faded with the original "80's looking" Pioneer Trim stripes also faded. I plan to re-paint it black with base coat, clear coat but am undecided whether to re-stripe it with the "Pioneer" stripes. I understand you can still get these stripe kits through Phoenix Graphix. I also want to undercoat it with some rustproofing material since I live in Ohio.

I've seen just a few re-paint pics online with or without stripes. Some have a single stripe, some no stripes. I'm trying to avoid the "fresh re-paint" look and want it to look original but am not a huge fan of the "Pioneer" trim stripes. I know it's a personal preference but any suggestions on what stripes would look best is appreciated. My interior is maroon so I was leaning towards a single maroon stripe but when it comes to picking cosmetics, I'm also not very talented. Thanks for your support! Happy Comamche's!

don't drive it in the winter and you don't need to undercoat. :L:  our trucks rot from the inside-out (bedsides, doors, frames, floors, etc), so undercoating doesn't really do much of anything.   but if you do do it, make sure you don't plug any body drain holes.

MJs look great both naked and stickered up.  can't go wrong. :D

Rubberized undercoating is 100% the wrong choice if you want to avoid rust. #1 don't drive it in winter. #2 if you must, choose oil/wax based coatings and cover every square inch underneath. And #3 keep the underside clean of salt by using the car wash in winter.

In my opinion you need to put the decals back on.
