Manche Man
Hello all, I have a 1988 Pioneer Longbed with 4 wheel drive. A while ago, my turn signals and wipers went out and I have not been able to track down the cause. I've checked the front lights, sockets, replaced sockets and bulbs, checked the fuses, swapped fuses, checked the blue relay on the steering column (no signs of burning or fraying/failure), checked wiring (no cracks or cut wires to my knowledge), and replaced the turn signal switch. Nothing. Put the Hazard fuse in place of the turn signals and still nothing. I checked voltage and it seems almost like there is power going into the input metal for the fuse, but very little power (3 volts or less) going out... I'm young and inexperienced with all this and am pretty unsure of whats wrong or where to go from there. i can adjust the high or low beam setting still which makes me think it isn't in the switch itself.. everything else seems to work (interior lights, instrument cluster and associated lights, cab lights... Ect.) Also, my idle has been funky for the last year as it smells rich and it idles at 1200-1500 RPM with steady anomalies that make it idle at 2k, 2500, or 3k RPM. replaced the idle control sensor, still nothing. One note, the plastic casing around the accelerator cable is broken so the engine wants to hold its throttle 3/4 open, so I've got zip ties and rubber bands keeping that down for now. Also adjusted the idle tap/screw so it idles at 750 RPM and not 1200. These are just teenage-inspired temporary fixes to keep the thing in a condition that I can drive it in the event of an emergency. Again, I'm young and inexperienced like mad so I need advice and help and some mercy from the real mechanics out there lol. cheers guys. thanks
jdog
Do you have voltage at the flashers relays? You state 3 volts, where did you Check it at? Is this a 4.0 manual? Check the intake bolts for tightness, any vacuum leaks? Performed tps adjustment? Does it do it with the cable detacted?
Manche Man
Yeah it's a 4.0 manual. Checked the voltage at each end of the fuse on the fuse box. Haven't tried to detatch the cable entirely.. but holding the throttle closed still let's it idle around 1200 rpm
jdog
What's the voltage at the relays( round things at the edges of the fuse box)?
cruiser54
Likely unrelated and you have more than one issue. Turn signals and wipers not working is likely a burned brown wire at the ignition switch on the column. Blower motor usually doesn't work either.
