Dyeing upholstery a darker shade

As the topic states, is this possible to do yourself without it looking like crap? I watched a few youtube videos and the results were....unimpressive, using RIT or Duplocolor Upholster Paint/Dye.

 

I want to dye my bench seat so it's a little darker shade of grey, you can see how light it is compared to the rest of the interior. Bench seat cover is in pretty good shape for it's age so I'd rather not replace it, plus I'm cheap.

Here's some info that may help.  Proper dye to fabric type is essential for success.  The very few times I've tried it they always had a tendency to bleed afterward.
