1988 jeep comanche

Recommended Posts

This is my project truck

It has 4.0, pukegoat trans, np231 case, front was a vac disconnect hp d30 but is now a lp d30 out of a tj and rear was a d35 but is now a d44 out of a tj too. It's also a long bed.

Current location is pflugerville texas and as far as I can tell she's been a texas truck her whole life.

Status is that she's a work in progress but I have big plans for the truck.

it has red interior with a bench. The interior is almost 100% complete. The color when I got it was half bed lined black but I plan on bedlining it an electric blue. Some plans for the truck are to bob the bed, ax-15 swap it, maybe diesel engine swap it, put jeep gladiator axles under it and enjoy the hell out of it.

Current owner is Colby chapla and the truck has an Instagram, it's @sidechick.the.mj20220316_161537.jpg.e8e5fc8b715d63f90320f754b8749cf4.jpg20220316_180052.jpg.8e44af3c9ef1030db608304d5867410d.jpg20220316_180101.jpg.012200e195a3d311aaed0d4cc76551b4.jpg20220316_180111.jpg.cbd33420f1aca7fd3a006cbaa967491a.jpg20220325_155310.jpg.458c8202677fb18883697753f3ba65f7.jpg20220514_154559.jpg.aa1455af361a4eab01499d012cb7b8de.jpg20220514_154618.jpg.05e1d915ca26523f412db4ca9a0c4111.jpg

looks like a solid truck. :L:

I'd skip the revolvers though.

Have you had personal experience with them? I can't find much on people using then and they looked pretty cool. I don't have my heart set on using them so i might not. Thank you. The truck is a little rough on the passenger inner fender and cowl but other then that she's all there.

they can unload when hill climbing which supposedly makes for an... interesting sensation.  they've been around a while now and no one I know that used them still has them.

on a similar topic, MJs don't need frame braces like XJs do.  :L:  they are trucks capable of hauling 2200 pounds in the bed.  they are plenty strong. :D  unless the frame is rotted and needs help, I would save my money.

rocker guards are needed though.  there's a lot of wheelbase there to protect. :comanche:

This is my first mj or even xj for that matter and I knew the xj's needed frame braces so I figured these needed them too. It's good to know that they don't need the frame stiffeners. I have had friends who've owned xj's but nobody who's owned an mj. My first jeep was my TJ and in some ways these are similar and in alot of ways they're not. Rocker guards / rock sliders are definitely on my list. I was thinking about either jcr or dirt bound for those.

Yes I did! It definitely showed me a good bit of new information to me. I had a plan to pull my carpet but I didn't realize how big of an issue it could be if I didn't. Even though its been a texas truck

  • Tctv3 changed the title to 1988 jeep comanche

Wahoo! I finally got the truck to turn over under it's own power. First thing this morning I changed the oil, then spun it over by hand and got the wiring set up to get it to spin over. Now I have a no spark condition, thanks to Cruiser’s Mostly Renix Tips I was able to diagnose it to be a crank positioning sensor. Next step is to replace it and try again. I'm so excited to hear this truck turn over.IMG_20220520_210807_379.jpg.7f6d63bcd40a7548f4bf2c1060286c3c.jpgIMG_20220520_210807_324.jpg.98f29a70e68170814b4f06c8d770c147.jpg

I found it in San Antonio Texas for $1,500. I've done quite a few jeep builds and I've done quite a few sqare body chevy builds too. I'm not currently selling anything but everything is for sale for the right price.

Last weekend I was finally able to get the truck started! My issue was that the starter switch was bad and wasn't sending power to the gauges or the computer. It only sent power to the starter.

I also had to replace a few fuses because I suppose in the trucks past life it had a leaking clutch master cylinder which destroyed the fuse box.

I was thankfully able to score a whole uncut interior harness for $175 so that will get replaced soon enough.

Next up was the fuel system. It had the wrong top hat and so I pulled the tank and apon further inspection I noticed the tank was full of rust so both of those are being replaced too. Thankfully everything will be in by next weekend so I can try to get it to idle.
