Drahcir495
What is the difference, if any, in an AX15 out of a 94 wrangler and the MJ/XJ versions? A guy is selling one and I need to know what problems I may run into with this swap. Thanks, Rich
Pete M
I used a 99 TJ trans and this is what I found: -TJ/YJs use a slightly different t-case shifting mechanism and I had to make a custom bracket to hold up the transmission side of the pivoting bar. -TJ/YJ transmissions will clock the t-case up slightly more than the MJ/XJ. This rotates the drivers side end of the t-case up closer to the body. Now, I have a custom crossmember and used the TJ tranny mount, so I haven't a clue how close the t-case gets with MJ parts. -The TJ shifter is different than the MJ/XJ. Haven't a clue for sure, but I assume the YJ is like the TJ. But because of the custom mounts I used might have raised the trans up a bit, you may not have as many problems with interference with the center console. Overall, while it is not "bolt-in", it wasn't all that hard and I do like the results. (more ground clearance) Jeep on! --Pete P.S. I'll post pics as soon as picturetrail comes back online. Drahcir495
Thanks for the info. I think the 94 AX15 is sold so it is back to the scrap yards-Rich

rejeep
Is it showing signs of going? These trannys get a bad rap, but with stock power and correct gearing they do last if not abused...
Drahcir495
I hate to say this but I do not drive it....oops did I just type that? ! I have it parked at my folks house until the Ford Explorer, explodes. In the mean time, I am gathering everything up so she will be ready when I need her. I have2 other CJs that I am working on right now. So I have way to many projects. The tranny is working good, but I only drove it for 80 miles.-Rich
