Will an 04 TJ AX5 fit an 87 Sportruck?

Does anybody know if the transmission from a TJ will fit the bell housing of a 1st gen 2.5l? If so, will the shifter linkage line up? I know transfer case clocking is different but I am planning to buy the t-case as well.

It depends....

 

Is yours a 4.0? Then no.

 

If yours is a 2.5, then it should.

 

The AX5 does not bolt to a 4.0 block.  An AX15 bolts to a 4.0.
